Socio-cultural values refer to a set of values, beliefs, traditions and habits of a particular society that shape how people within that society approach risk and view careers. The values also influence their perceptions of money and ideas of an ideal lifestyle. Socio-cultural norms do not only affect how people relate and interact with their environment, they also influence how individuals within the society interact with the world and this in turn influence how they approach the process of economic developments. The thrust of this article is therefore to examine how religion, education and socio-cultural values influence economic development in Nigeria. Being an historical research, the paper employs historical method in its analysis. The findings of this paper reveal that religion and socio-cultural values such as materialism or post-materialism, collectivism or individualism, innovations, obedience, thrift and risk propensity, influence how individuals approach everyday activities, personal decisions on work, business venture, industrialization and by extension, economic development in Nigeria. The paper however concludes that the variable experiences of individuals during their development which include environmental factors, quality of education and relationship with others are dependent upon their socio-cultural backgrounds.

The extended journey towards both economic and political modernization within Indonesia's democratic framework has led to a transformation of its society into an industrialized community. However, this change has largely failed to boost the economic prospects of the general populace. Moreover, the turbulent nature of Indonesia's democratic evolution has not aligned well with the principles of open dialogue and inclusive discussion, as advocated by its foundational philosophy, Pancasila. Over the last 15 years, the amalgamation of development-oriented politics and political liberalization has exerted a detrimental impact on the nation's unique cultural identity and wisdom. The upcoming research aims to revisit and revitalize the indigenous political ideologies and social values held by various ethnic groups and community structures in Indonesia. The objective is to shed light on the unexplored potential of social capital to enhance the quality of the country's democratic governance. The research will focus on two main categories for its case study: Firstly, it will delve into ethnic groups, concentrating specifically on the Wajo and Minang communities; Secondly, it will study communities that are active in a number of urban parks across the Java region. The study is rooted in the theoretical framework of consultative democracy and will utilize qualitative research methods interpreted through the lens of political anthropology to obtain nuanced, context-rich insights.

The foundational ethos of a nation-state is inextricably linked with long-standing cultural tenets, often encapsulated in a codified philosophy that predates the state's formal establishment. These traditional values serve as an authoritative framework for addressing complex societal issues. Specifically, in the Indonesian context, there is a discernible challenge characterized by a multifaceted set of issues and inherent complexities in devising effective solutions. It is posited that these dilemmas can be ameliorated by adhering to the country's ingrained philosophical and traditional mores. If such a philosophy is rooted in religious principles, it is only through the application of these religious teachings that the veracity of traditional customs can be affirmed. In this regard, Islam is particularly salient as a religion of 'rahmatan lil'alamin,' possessing a universal applicability that encompasses all facets of human existence. The impetus for this research lies in its potential to catalyze a reorientation of societal perspectives, specifically among the Batak tribe. The objective is to align communal practices, including architectural and infrastructural developments, with the precepts of the Poda Na Lima philosophy. This alignment will be achieved by first establishing the points of congruence between the Poda Na Lima philosophy and the tribe’s religious and ethnic identity as Muslims and Bataks, respectively. To achieve this, the study employs qualitative methodologies guided by critical discourse analysis. The results unequivocally indicate that the quintessential principles enshrined in the Poda Na Lima philosophy are not merely instructive but also possess significant intrinsic value. Moreover, the entirety of the Poda Na Lima's content is congruent with and complementary to, Islamic doctrine.

Advice values in folklore stories can educate in taking lessons and role models that are worthy of being guided by and then used as examples of bad behavior and those that are not good not to emulate. The value of valuable advice, namely: being sincere and selfless and forgiving their children, Forgiving others is a commendable deed, The child's respect for both parents is manifested in sentences that show obedience to both parents. Folklore often reflects the creativity of traditional societies while still holding fast to tradition as a manifestation of creativity that is alive and passed down from generation to generation. Thus, folklore stories remain oriented towards local ethnic values. This study examined the genesis of the Nigerian Army, the activities in context with policy and platform preference in tactics, strategy and doctrine. Nigeria’s response to the myriad of challenges faced by the Nigerian Army and the role it played pre- 1970. The research also traced the history of the Nigeria Army, and postulates factors in the organization that engendered ethnic rivalry. A retrospect and review of the facts was made, in order that scholars would have an insight on perceptions as well as the reasons why the choice of strategic platform favored the Army. The research identified the reasons why the Army is considered the number one force in the Nigerian state and the land platform is most favored. The other contribution to knowledge is the correlation between ethnic rivalry and the choice of platform.
