Motivation of employees to highly effective work has been and remains one of the acute management problems both from a theoretical and practical point of view. In modern conditions, the situation is aggravated by high competition in the labor market, the complexity of the content and nature of the work of specialists, the peculiarities of the younger generation entering into labor relations. In this article, the authors investigate the material and non-material motivation of young specialists in the oil and gas industry, based on the results of an empirical study that revealed the special preferences of employees of different age groups in relation to various incentive measures applied at the enterprise. As a result of the study, a number of recommendations were developed aimed at improving motivational approaches for various categories of employees.

Despite the presence of a positive effect from the development of competition, confirmed both in theory and in practice, in a crisis, priorities can be given to short-term effects of the financial stability of a business. The authors analyzed the state of the industries of electricity generation and freight rail transportation in terms of their vertical integration model and financial results of companies, including an assessment of the cost of the latter's business. The choice of industries is justified by the absence of vertically integrated companies in the first industry and their presence in the second, which allows us to analyze the causes and consequences of allowing vertical integration for companies in backbone industries. The results of the analysis of financial multipliers show that in the case of vertical integration of railway companies with an infrastructure organization, there is no “premium” to the value of the business relative to non-integrated companies. This leads to the conclusion that integrated companies in the industry do not receive unconditional advantages over nonintegrated players. At the same time, vertical integration and competition are not connected by an unambiguous causal relationship, however, the experience of the studied industries demonstrates that vertical integration may not hinder the development of competition in the industry. We assume that a further increase in the level of competition in the electricity market can be ensured by separating assets in the formed wholesale market, even if the ban on vertical integration is lifted.

The article considers the problem of state regulation of ecosystems in the digital economy at the mesoand macro-level. The authors define the relationship between ecosystems at the mesoand macro-level, highlight the approaches of state regulation of ecosystems, and determine the specifics of state regulation of ecosystems. The purpose of the study is to determine the role of the state in the management of ecosystems of the digital economy. The study uses the method of comparative analysis, which makes it possible to identify two possible roles of the state in the macro-level ecosystem: the role of «integrator» and the role of «coordinator».

Population aging is taking place in Russia: the proportion of older people in the total population is rising, which leads to an increase in the demographic dependency ratio. Sanctions in the long term can have a significant negative impact on the growth rates of the Russian economy, which have shown instability in recent years, and in some periods have taken negative values. These trends determine the relevance of this study. The purpose of the work is to predict the demographic dividend in Russia in the period up to 2036, that is, to predict the impact of population aging on economic growth. When forecasting the future dynamics of the demographic dividend in Russia, we identified two effects: the effect of the 2019 pension reform (a phased change in the retirement age) and the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to our calculations, both the pension reform and COVID-19 have a positive effect on the demographic dividend in Russia (as the boundaries of working age are expanding, and COVID-19 supermortality was more observed among the elderly, which changed the share of the working-age population). At the same time, the effect of the pension reform is much stronger than the effect of the pandemic.

The modern world has entered a complex controversial era of changing economic systems, clearly visible in a variety of new phenomena. These include the completion of industrialization in developed countries with the development of the third industrial revolution and the entry into the era of technology development of the Fourth industrial revolution. Such a change resolves the fundamental contradiction of capitalism that has reached a critical level, in the author's interpretation, on the side of the productive forces acting as an environmental crisis, on the side of industrial relations – inequality in income and property. In the era of changing economic systems, it is appropriate to ask a question about the relevance of classical forecasts regarding the future of capitalism, and there are two such in their scientific heritage. The first of them is the well–known socialist one, set out in the Manifesto of the Communist Party, published in 1848, and, on the contrary, the forecast about the «transformation of the capitalist mode of production into an associated one,» which Marx outlined very succinctly, but clearly and unambiguously in the third volume of Capital. The followers of the classics picked up the first forecast, contrary to their expectations, which never took place in the history of capitalism in developed countries, addressed directly to them by the classics, but implemented in semi-feudal Russia. However, the age of socialism turned out to be short-lived in it, but the reasons for its fleeting death are not fully realized to this day. And on the contrary, the second forecast took place: capitalism underwent such a transformation at the stage of mastering the second industrial revolution and even more – the third. Let's try to figure out how popular a socialist forecast can be in modern conditions. This is also relevant in view of the steady increase in state ownership, which abolishes the monopoly of private ownership forms inherent in capitalism and contributes to the increasing role of the state as a macroeconomic entity.

The concept of «narrow corridor» by D. Acemoglu and J. Robinson, which explains the relationship between political development and economic prosperity, launched a wide discussion in foreign and Russian scientific literature. During it a number of critical remarks were made, which our work is devoted to overcome. The premise of recognizing Leviathan's heterogeneity is proposed as the directions for the development of the concept. Also, the factors that limit the «ultimate boundaries» of his power in the vertical and horizontal dimensions: technological progress (including in the field of information transfer) and the complication of political organization are proposed. To demonstrate the advantages of the modified model, we consider a specific case of the development of Russian statehood through the prism of the concept.

The article systematizes the history of the formation of Islamic banking, formulates and proposes an interpretation of this concept, and also structures the main types of services which are provided by Islamic financial institutions. The result of analyse of the external environment is conclusion that the concentration of assets managed by Islamic banks in 2020 has exceeded $1.7 trillion. This concentration has token place due to the accumulation of significant liquidity by the countries of the Middle East and the necessity of diversifying national investment portfolios. It affords them meaningful role in the global financial system. At the same time, the conducted internal Russian socio-demographic analysis shows that more than ten million people who profess Islam in Russia do not have access to Islamic banking products. Based on this, the author of the work has identified fundamental factors, due to which there are no credit institutions in the Russian Federation in the considered market niche. The result of the work is the presentation of banking products and services that can be adapted to the principles of Islamic banking in Russia. General recommendations for their development are presented as well.
