A geographical name is a conventional language sign, which is not only used for a geographic entity, but also widely applied in the naming of other entities, thus significantly affecting the accuracy of news-specific geographical name extractions. In this paper, the characteristics of the geographical names in the news are analyzed and the geographical names are divided into geographic entity, organizational entity, in addition to other entities. For the unbalance of these three entities in the news, a SMOTE-based random walk algorithm is proposed here to realize the classification and identification of geographical names.

In order to improve survival rate of patients suffering from sudden cardiac arrest, it is very important to develop high accurate and quick recognition algorithm for shockable electrocardiogram (ECG). In this paper, we propose a new ECG recognition algorithm based on some features which are derived by analyzing ECG signals via wavelet transform, and evaluate useful feature parameters by a feature selection approach.

A vibration suppression control problem by using on-off valves for a pneumatic isolation table is considered. In this system, positioning control is difficult because the system possesses a non-linear quantizer essentially. As a result, positioning error is remained in general. To overcome this problem, we have proposed a method considering the common multiple constraint, which is the appropriate relationship between the number of inhalation times and the number of exhalation times. By using this method, high convergence performance can be obtained without any offset. However, only vibration in the vertical direction is considered. Thus, we propose a method of suppressing the vibration of the two-axis direction by generalizing the previous method. The effectiveness of the control method is verified by numerical simulation.

The condition number of a Sylvester matrix composed of the denominator and numerator polynomial of a model is investigated numerically for an LLC resonant dc-dc converter. The order of the model is changed from six to one in a certain manner and they are discretized using the step-invariant and matched-pole-zero methods expressed in the delta and shift operators. Their condition numbers show that in both operator forms, the higher the order is, the larger the condition number becomes, implying poorer numerical conditioning. It was also found that the stepinvariant model is more ill-conditioned than the matchedpole-zero models in general. While the number becomes constant as the sampling frequency increases for the delta cases, it keeps increasing for the shift cases, which is well known. However, in the range of sampling frequencies expected in recent practices, the models expressed in shiftform have smaller condition numbers and are betterconditioned than those in delta-form of respective orders.

This paper we propose a continuous review inventory system for perishable inventory with lost sales. We consider a single demand types and a single unit for placing and depleting the demand. The demand, lead time and life time is random variables according to an exponentially distributed. We develop the inventory system as a Markov process with impatient customer. We formulate the model as a M/M/∞ queuing model given a (r, S) and (r, K) policies. The state of system is a number of on-hand inventories and obtains the limited steady state probability at state n. The limited steady state probability approach is based on a basic rule of the rate of transition out equal to the rate of transition into the state. Numerical results indicate that the model provides no difference of the limited steady state probability comparing to the results of the augmented generator matrix. Furthermore, the results show that the (r, S) policy provides more efficiency than the (r, K) policy as (K > r) on the probability of lost sale (P0) whereas the (r, S) policy provides a larger on-hand inventory than the (r, K) policy as (K > r).

The proposed paper presents: the description and the analysis of an Analytic Network Process Model for the evaluation and the management of maintenance projects in engineering plant field. The study was made in Ansaldo Energia (AEN), Italian company active in the energy sector, one of the world’s major power plant producers. The test cases are three power plants belonging to three important Service customers. Three service contracts that respectively represent, from an HSE (Health Safety Environment) point of view, the “as was”, the “as is” and the “to be” are presented and discussed aiming to demonstrate that HSE could be improved in a systematic way. These three examples are characterized by an increase in HSE preventive activities more than the simple actions required to be compliant with HSE laws and rules. The complex of the HSE measures, known in Ansaldo as “HSE package”, are generally proposed in service contracts with the aim of improving the overall Customer Satisfaction that, recently, is strictly connected with HSE. Due to a rising general awareness of HSE, many general contractors are facing the complex trade-off among HSE performances improvement and other project KPI (Key Performance Indicator) related to cost saving, making this business even harder than expected. Finally this paper tries to answer these research questions: Is the HSE project with more preventive actions effectively the best project to be implemented by Ansaldo? How much does an improvement of Customer Satisfaction and HSE cost to the company in terms of time and effort?

This study proposes an effective modeling method to simulate masticatory action. Based on computed tomography (CT) images, finite element (FE) models of human skull with two different occlusal relationships, such as class I and end-on class II are constructed. After applied loading and boundary conditions for masticatory simulation, FE analyses are performed considering linear material properties and geometrical effect. As a result, the relationships between the mandibular movement and occlusal force of both two models show similar tendency in range of human occlusal force. However, stress distributions are different due to changes of occlusal surface. In addition, an experiment is conducted using replica skull model for the validation. The experimental results show a good agreement with the analytical results.

In this paper, we look at the problem of tracking icebergs using multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Our solutions use combinatorial optimization for UAV path planning by formulating a mixed integer linear programing (MILP) optimization problem. To demonstrate the approach, we present both a simulation and a practical experiment. The simulation demonstrates the possibilities of the MILP algorithm by constructing a case where three UAVs help a boat make a safe passage through an area with icebergs. Furthermore, we compare the performance of three against a single UAV. In the practical experiment, we take the first step towards full-scale experiments. We run the algorithm on a ground station and use it to set the path for a UAV tracking five simulated icebergs.

Colors and their relationship to surrounding colors cause observers to feel specific emotions. This study proposes a method for extracting emotional words from the color combinations within images. For this, we extract the color spectrum of an input image. By examining the extracted color spectrum and color combinations, we obtain an emotional word. Then, we determine a specific emotion conveyed by the input image. By using this algorithm, we finally propose an emotion-based image color modification system. Through proposed system, user can easily choose an image of desired emotion.
