Introduction and Objective. Correlations between the number of milk somatic cells (SCC), the number of microorganisms, and the content of basic components of milk were studied on five farms (F1–F5) with cows of the same breed, but with different milking systems. Materials and Method. From each farm, 50 Holstein Friesien milk samples were collected once a month (250 samples/ month; n=3,000) during March 2022 – February 2023. Samples from farms F1 and F5 were tested for fat, protein, lactose, no fat dry matter content (FTIR spectroscopy), for the SCC (Fossomatic 7)

Introduction and Objective. Because of the armed conflict in Ukraine, companion, farm and captive wild animals have been moved in a simplified procedure across the Polish-Ukrainian border. For that reason, in 2022, Poznań Zoo provided support for almost 200 wild animals before movement to facilities in other countries. The aim of the study is to identify the under-recognized risk of moving animals that may be infected with zoonotic pathogens, such as Mycobacterium caprae , between countries. Materials and Method. Sections of the heart, lungs, and mesentery of 4-year-old lioness from Ukraine were taken for histopathological and bacteriological examination. Results. Microbiological examinations confirmed the presence of Mycobacterium caprae , SB0418 spoligotype. Conclusion. TB is a zoonotic disease present globally. Movement of captive wild animals from regions with MTBC cases, or lack of MTBC surveillance, such as UA may pose a potential threat to public health.

Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive facultative anaerobic bacterium that is ubiquitous in the environment and can cause severe infections in immunocompromised individuals, pregnant women, and newborns. Listeriosis can manifest as meningitis, encephalitis, or sepsis, and its diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion. The case is reported of a rare presentation of rhombencephalitis by listeriosis in a 61-year-old male who initially suffered from subacute gastric disturbances and fever. Neurological consultation showed abnormal functions of cranial nerves and meningeal signs were observed. MRI revealed a poorly demarcated focus of approximately 45 × 16 × 15mm, indicating possible inflammatory processes, necessitating a lumbar puncture. Assessment of the CSF indicated infection with the bacterium-Listeria Monocytogenes, with the final diagnosis of Listeriosis encephalitis. Despite antibiotic therapy of Ceftazidine and Ampicillin, the patient’s condition deteriorated, followed by death.

Introduction and Objective. Hippobosca equina (Diptera: Hippoboscidae), is a widespread blood-feeding ectoparasite associated with the forest ecosystem. The insect is characterized by a wide host range and low host specificity, which increases the risk of feeding on animals that constitute a reservoir of transmissible pathogens, including Bartonella spp. Materials and Method. Hippobosca equina adults were collected from humans and companion animals within a continental mesotrophic oak-pine mixed forest in eastern Poland. DNA was isolated by the ammonia method, and isolates obtained from single individuals were tested by PCR method for the presence of 5 vector-borne pathogens. In case of the positive results, the amplicons were sequenced and examined by a BLAST search. Results. The PCR analysis of DNA isolates obtained from 100 H. equina specimens revealed the presence of the RNA polymerase beta-subunit gene ( rpoB ) of the genus Bartonella , in 1% of the studied insects, i.e. one H. equina female. The rpoB gene haplotype of Bartonella sp. reported in this study, was identical to a Bartonella sp. sequence obtained from deer keds in Lithuania, and very closely related to strains with zoonotic potential. None of the H. equina specimens studied was positive for the presence of B. burgdorferi s.l., Anaplasma phagocytophilum , Babesia spp., and Coxiella burnetii . Conclusions. The study indicates the need to screen the occurrence of Bartonella spp., both in potential vectors and reservoirs of this pathogen in various habitats.

Introduction and Objective. As globalization and modernization continue to impact people’s lives, a significant shift in lifestyle has taken place, resulting in a worldwide decrease in physical activity and an increase in unhealthy eating patterns. Physical inactivity has become the fourth leading cause of death globally. The aim of this scoping review is to analyze the concept and development of integrating physical activity into healthcare (IPAHc), based on the principles of sports and exercise medicine (SEM) and exercise is medicine (EIM). Review methods. A systematic search was conducted of relevant published studies with full text using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Academic Search Ultimate, Medline, and SPORTDiscus, via the EBSCO search platform. Brief description of the state of knowledge. Twenty-nine studies met the inclusion criteria. The integration pathway centres around physical activity consultation and/or referral, and information technology which has been extensively utilized in IPAHc, including websites, electronic medical records, social media, wearable devices, mobile software, and referral tools. SEM and EIM face numerous implementation challenges, such as time constraints, education/training, resources, and tools. Summary. The concept of IPAHc involves the integration of Physical Activity Vital Signs (PAVS) into electronic medical records to evaluate the physical activity levels of the general population. This can assist individuals in achieving fitness goals, preventing diseases, treating existing illnesses, and undergoing rehabilitation. IPAHc has been in development for many years and is now being explored in practice. Despite the widespread use of information technology in this integration process, a number of challenges still need addressing.

Summary.
