Actuator fault estimation in wind turbine using a modified sliding mode observer based on Linear Matrix Inequality approach

This paper presents a fault detection and isolation (FDI) method applied to a wind turbine system. The approach utilizes a nonlinear sliding mode observer (SMO) to effectively reconstruct faults in both the hydraulic pitch actuator and generator torque actuator of the wind turbine. A Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) optimization approach is employed for the design. The blade pitch angle and generator torque in the wind turbine have significantly different orders of magnitudes, rendering them vulnerable to faults of different magnitudes. This discrepancy poses a challenge for the simultaneous reconstruction of faults. To resolve this challenge, a modification is made to the observer. To examine the effectiveness of the modified SMO, two fault scenarios were considered for the hydraulic pitch actuator and generator torque actuator. In the first case, faults are introduced separately, while in the second case, faults occur simultaneously. Simulation results demonstrate accurate detection, isolation, and reconstruction of these faults, whether in the case of separate or simultaneous fault occurrences.

Cooling equipment is widely used in industry, commerce and households. Due to their widespread use, they are responsible for the consumption of a significant amount of electricity. They are subject to degradation and various types of damage. Most often, their energy efficiency decreases and electricity consumption increases. Practice shows that even a specialist service is unable to diagnose damage at an early stage of its development. The paper presents a comparison of continuous monitoring of the temperature of the cooling chamber as a utility standard, with constant monitoring of the temperature of the cooling chamber and electricity consumption of a professional refrigeration cabinet with a built-in condensing unit. The comparative analysis was intended to confirm the thesis about unconscious waste resulting from assessing the correct operation of the device based on limited information. The experiment showed an increase in daily electricity consumption on average by over 30% during the period of unconscious exploitation of the device in a state of failure and an increase in daily electricity consumption on average above 300% during the period of conscious exploitation of the device in a state of failure, but still at an acceptable level of temperature of cooling chamber.

Elements of the railway infrastructure are subject to difficult weather conditions, as well as changing dynamic loads resulting from the operation of a given part of the infrastructure. The following article presents an analysis of the internal macro and microstructure of a polymer railway sleeper made of reinforced polyethylene. The aim of the research was to obtain the results of structure, analysis of hardness measurements and identification of structure inconsistencies and the presence of other structural components in recycled polyethylene substrates. In terms of the tested material properties of the polyethylene sleepers, no significant changes in strength and plastic stability were found for the samples made of polyethylene tested before and after exposure to varying atmospheric conditions in the climatic chamber

Real-time motion control is basically dependent on robot kinematics analysis where there is no unique solution of the inverse kinematics of serial manipulators . The predictive artificial neural network is a powerful one for finding appropriate results based on training data. Therefore, an artificial neural network is proposed to implement on Arduino microcontroller for a 4-DOF robot manipulator where the inverse kinematics problem was partitioned to suit the low specification of the board CPU. With MATALB toolbox, multiple neural network configuration based were trained and experienced for the best fit of the dimensionless feedforward data that is obtained from the forward kinematics of reachable workspace with average MSE of 6.5e-7. The results showed the superior of the proposed networks reducing the joints error by 90 % at least with comparing to traditional one. An Arduino on-board program was developed to control the robot independly based on pre validated parameters of the network. The experimental results approved the proposed method to implement the robot in real time with maximum error of (± 0.15 mm) in end effector position. The presented approach can be applied to achieve a suitable solution of n-DOF self-depend robot implementation using micro stepping actuators.
