Theoretical performance evaluation of EDCA in IEEE 802.11e wireless LANs IEEE 802.11e无线局域网中EDCA的理论性能评价

While the original IEEE 802.11 distributed coordinated function (DCF) has been widely analysed by both theoretical and simulation studies, the performance of the new IEEE 802.11e enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) has not yet been investigated extensively. In this paper, we extend an analytical model to capture the operations of the arbitrary inter-frame space, contention window differentiation and transmission opportunity in EDCA for the evaluation of throughput performance and collision probability of different service classes. The performance analyses are validated by simulation results. Our analysis provides insightful results for evaluating the impact of different priority parameters on the performance of EDCA service differentiation. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

This letter studies large-scale IP traffic matrix (TM) estimation problem and proposes a novel method called the Mahalanobis distance-based regressive inference (MDRI). By using Mahalanobis distance as an optimal metric, we can get rid of the highly ill-posed nature of this problem. We describe the TM estimation into an optimal process, and then by optimising the regularised equation about this problem, TM's estimation can accurately obtained. Information Theory MAP sequence equalization for imperfect frequency selective channel knowledge 不完全频率选择信道知识的信息论MAP序列均衡

This paper considers the problem of maximum a posteriori (MAP) sequence equalization over a frequency selective channel when the channel is not perfectly known at the receiver. The imperfect channel estimate is provided by a least squares estimator using a training sequence (TS). The derivation of the MAP criterion taking into account the channel estimation error exists in the literature but no direct practical implementation has been proposed. In this paper, we propose an approximate solution to the problem by using an iterative burst-by-burst equalizer based on the Expectation Maximisation (EM) algorithm. Simulation results show that the performance of our iterative equalizer is significantly better than the performance of the non-iterative equalizer which does not take into account the channel estimation error. Transmission Systems Techniques for reducing out-of-band radiation in OFDM based transmission systems 传输系统基于OFDM的传输系统中减少带外辐射的技术

Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) suffers from high out-of-band radiation that prohibits the efficient use of the available spectrum particularly in OFDM based overlay systems. Recently, three different techniques for sidelobe suppression have been proposed and are recapitulated in this paper. One approach referred to as subcarrier weighting is based on weighting the individual subcarriers such that their sidelobes cancel each other. Alternatively, cancellation carriers are inserted at the edges of the spectrum in order to cancel the sidelobes of the transmit (Tx) signal. Thirdly, with the multiple choice sequences method, the symbol vector is transformed into multiple equivalent Tx sequences and the one with the lowest sidelobe power is transmitted. Sidelobes are reduced significantly at the expense of a slightly ncreased bit error rate or a reduced throughput. In order to further improve performance, in the paper, the combination with Tx windowing and reasonable combinations of the three methods are proposed and investigated. Simulation results show that the suppression achieved with the joint application of two techniques considerably exceeds the suppression achieved with the methods applied separately.

Communication Networks Joint turbo equalisation and carrier synchronisation for SC-FDE schemes 通信网络SC-FDE方案的联合turbo均衡和载波同步

In this paper we consider the use of single carrier (SC) modulations combined with frequency-domain equalisation (FDE) in future broadband wireless systems. We propose iterative receiver structures with joint equalisation and carrier synchronisation. The proposed receivers can be regarded as modified frequency-domain turbo equalisers where we perform a decision-directed frequency offset estimation within each iteration of the turbo equaliser. Our performance results show that the proposed receiver structure has good bit error rate (BER), even with moderate frequency offsets and in severely time-dispersive channels. Moreover, our receiver has a relatively low implementation complexity, due to its fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based frequency-domain implementation. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

In this paper, a hybrid, frequency division duplex (FDD), time division–code division multiple access (TD-CDMA), medium access control (MAC) protocol is proposed. Both multicode (MC) and orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) transmission modes are used in order to utilise the system resources more efficiently. Moreover, a new rate-scheduling algorithm is developed, aimed at providing a trade-off between throughput maximisation and fairness, while satisfying QoS requirements. The above scheme is formulated as a constrained optimisation problem, which maximises the sum of normalised rates instead of throughput in order to achieve fairer rate allocations, while maintaining throughput at a high value. A new optimisation constraint is introduced in order to deal with the discrete set of available rates that the hybrid MC-OVSF scheme supports. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Optical Communications Comparison of hard-decision and soft-decision channel coded M-ary PPM performance over free space optical links 光通信自由空间光链路上硬决策和软决策信道编码m -玛利PPM性能的比较

Error control coded M-ary pulse position modulation (PPM) can be used over free space optical links to mitigate the atmospheric attenuations and the turbulence induced fading. In this paper, we present performance analysis for coded free space optics (FSO) communication systems operating over various atmospheric conditions. We justify the selection of higher state PPM as an appropriate modulation scheme for the links and provide a comparative analysis between hard decision decoded (Reed-Solomon, RS) and soft decision decoded (Turbo) channel coded PPM over varying link conditions. Simulation results strongly indicate RS-coded PPM as a robust and well-performing coded-modulation scheme for the FSO links.

Signal Processing Computationally efficient joint partial crosstalk cancellation and multi-user power control algorithm in xDSL networks 信号处理xDSL网络中计算效率高的联合部分串扰消除和多用户功率控制算法

Far-end crosstalk (FEXT) is the major limitation to achieve high data rates in very high bit rate digital subscriber line (VDSL) systems. Full crosstalk cancellation (FCC) techniques have been proposed to mitigate the effect of crosstalk. However, these are too complex for application in typical VDSL binders. Considering the fact that there are only a few strongest cross-talkers that contribute to main part of crosstalk, the crosstalk cancellation can be simplified to line selection (LS), tone selection (TS) and joint line-tone selection (JLTS) partial crosstalk cancellation (PCC). These all result in much less online complexity. In this paper, first, we propose a new modified JLTS algorithm with significantly lower initialisation complexity than the optimal JLTS (OJLTS) algorithm and approximately with similar performance. Then a novel joint algorithm is presented that combines the multi-user power control technique with the PCC scheme to achieve near the capacity rates. We also consider dynamic online complexity constraint for each user. This joint algorithm leads to a much larger online complexity reduction (around 60% for long lines) and higher data rates at the expense of slightly higher initialisation complexity. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified by some simulation results and compared with current algorithms that use flat power spectral densities (PSDs) and other existing joint algorithms. Optical Communications Minimisation of end-to-end delay in reconfigurable WDM networks using genetic algorithms 基于遗传算法的可重构WDM网络端到端时延最小化

A new genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed to design logical topologies for wavelength-routed optical networks (WRONs) with the objective of minimising the end-to-end delay. Two versions of the algorithm, called D-GALD (Delay-optimised Genetic Algorithm for Logical topology Design), have been developed. The first one minimises the average end-to-end delay of the packets transported by the network, while the second one minimises the average delay of the most delayed traffic flow. By means of a simulation study, we show that the logical topologies designed by D-GALD support more than 50 per cent higher traffic load—without causing network instability—than those ones designed by other heuristics. Moreover, the utilisation of D-GALD leads to reductions of up to 15 per cent in the average end-to-end delay and around 30 per cent in the average end-to-end delay of the most delayed traffic flow.
