Introduction: Financial toxicity can increase healthcare costs, in addition to negatively impacting the therapeutic adherence and health- related quality of life of cancer patients within the public healthcare system. Objective: To correlate financial toxicity with the adults living with cancer health-related quality of life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: This is an observational, cross-sectional, correlational study conducted with 179 patients receiving care from the Unified Health System in a capital city in southern Brazil. Data collection was performed from September 2021 to December 2022, using questionnaires containing sociodemographic and clinical data, and the Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General. The correlation between financial toxicity and health-related quality of life was assessed using Spearman’s correlation coefficient at a 5 % significance level. Results: The correlation between financial toxicity and health-related quality of life was 0.41 (p-value < 0.001). The financial toxicity and health-related quality of life scores were 20.1/44 and 73.3/108, respectively. Conclusion: This study has found that the lower the financial toxicity, the better the patients’ health-related quality of life. In this sense, recognizing the presence of financial toxicity in the treatment course could help improve adherence to treatment and health-related quality of life.

Introduction: The use of pre-discharge tools enables the nursing team to guide informal caregivers, promoting continued care at home, which can minimize readmissions. Objective: To develop and validate a checklist to support the nursing team in guiding informal caregivers regarding home care during the discharge transition process. Materials and Methods: This is a methodological study, submitted to 14 nurse judges, who evaluated a checklist on care guidelines for informal caregivers in the hospital discharge transition. The study was performed in three stages: A literature review, the development of the checklist, and validation using the Delphi technique, which was conducted from February 2022 to January 2023, and the data was treated using scale reliability analysis, a content validity index, and an intraclass correlation coefficient. Results: The checklist was comprised of 10 domains: Hygiene and comfort; tracheostomy; oxygen therapy; nutrition; indwelling urinary catheter; ostomies; dressings; risk of falls; medication; returns and referrals, totaling 32 guidelines for informal caregivers. The checklist was submitted to two validation stages and, after implementing the changes suggested by the judges, a content validity index of 100% agreement was obtained between the evaluators, with a Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.84 and an intraclass correlation index of 0.80. Conclusions: The checklist presents good reliability, intraclass correlation, and content validation, and can be applied in professional practice and scientific settings regarding the transition to hospital discharge of critically ill patients, helping to promote continued care at home.

Introduction: This study provides unprecedented scientific evidence for the expansion of health literacy as a tool capable of increasing patient safety through effective communication between health care professionals and their patients, especially in primary health care. Objective: To map the evidence available regarding the impact of health literacy on care safety for adult patients in primary health care. Materials and methods: This is a scoping review in line with the Joanna Briggs Institute method, which covers care, techniques, protocols, or health literacy methods used to improve primary health care. The Medline (PubMed), Web of Science, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library, Scopus, Cinahl, and Google Scholar databases were used for the gray literature search. Original studies available in full and published until January 2023, in all languages covering the topic, were included. Two reviewers screened them by title and abstract, and three reviewers read the full texts and extracted data from the selected articles presented in flowcharts, tables, and descriptive narratives. Results: A total of 3749 studies were found, of which 23 were selected. From these, the following categories emerged: ‘The impact of health literacy on the engagement and health outcomes of primary health care users;’ ‘Interventions that contribute to health literacy in primary health care;’ and ‘Evaluation of users’ and professionals’ perspectives on health literacy.’ Conclusions: Health literacy interventions focused on primary care should be encouraged within health care services to promote care, prevent illnesses, and inspire the population’s transformation process, with a direct impact on patient safety.

Introduction: Nurse-led programs have a determinant role in the engagement of individuals in the self-management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), as they contribute to improving quality of life. Self-management assisted by social support is vital, especially as it describes the importance of nurses in promoting health for people with T2DM, as this intervention can help reduce the consequences and progression of the disease. Objective: To map programs focused on nurse-led social support for people with T2DM. Materials and Methods: This is a scoping review in line with the methodological guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute. The search descriptors used were “autocuidado” (self-care), “intervenção liderada por enfermeiro” (nurse-led intervention), and “diabetes mellitus tipo 2” (type 2 diabetes mellitus), with searches in the Web of Science, Medline, CINAHL, Capes Theses and Dissertations Catalog, Scopus, JBI Evidence Synthesis, PsycINFO, and the Portuguese Open Access Scientific Repositories databases conducted between February and March 2022. The eligibility criteria were studies published within the last 10 years, in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, covering the individual’s experience in programs focused on self-management through nurse-led social support. Results: A total of 12 studies were included, all of which were published in the United States, England, and Iran, focusing on social support for self-management in people with T2DM, and centered on care facilities for people with chronic diseases. It was found that most nurse-led programs have been implemented in developed countries and that their main characteristic is their emphasis on social cognitive theory. The population was characterized by being mostly women, aged over 22, with a low level of education. Conclusions: The study met the proposed objective by demonstrating that, despite the low implementation cost with high social and economic returns, the development of these programs is still scarce. The need for further studies focusing on emotional levels, such as depression and anxiety, is highlighted.

Introduction: The need for care has increased exponentially in recent years, along with chronic noncommunicable diseases. Caregivers have been predominantly women, although in recent years there has been an increase in the number of men assuming this role. Each of them approaches caregiving differently, shaping their caregiving experience differently from one another. Objective: To identify, through scientific evidence, the meaning of being a caregiver for men and women who assume this role. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review of articles published from 2012 to 2023, following Whittemore and Knafl’s proposal. Keywords in Spanish, English, and Portuguese were used. The databases searched were Scopus, CINAHL, Web of Science, Ovid, and PubMed. Twenty-four articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed. Results: The following themes emerged: “Losses and limitations due to the caregiver’s role,” “Feelings experienced by the caregiver,” “Caregiving as an act of love,” and “Transcendence of care: between spirituality and religiosity.” Conclusions: It was found that men focus their care on the person’s comfort, cleanliness, and medication, while women provide care focused on continuous emotional support, assuming this commitment at all times and places, building an experience of care aimed at “always being aware.” In both genders, the onset of stress, loss of meaning in life, and negative feelings are highlighted.
检索的数据库包括 Scopus、CINAHL、Web of Science、Ovid 和 PubMed。

Introduction: Therapeutic adherence for childhood anemia is addressed in health services with unsatisfactory results. Therefore, the implementation of this strategy will favor greater adherence to treatment with ferrous sulfate. Objective: To evaluate the effect of virtual health messages on maternal therapeutic adherence for childhood anemia. Materials and Methods: A pre-experimental and longitudinal study was developed between November and December 2022, in which 24 mothers of children diagnosed with anemia participated. Adherence was determined using a test and inferential analysis through the Wilcoxon test. Results: The mothers were between 18 and 29 years old (50.0 %), of rural origin (66.7 %), who completed primary school (33.3 %), housewives (83.3 %), and cohabitants (79.2 %). In the pre-test, high adherence was observed in social factors (50 %), health personnel (75 %), illness (87.5 %), and person supplementing the ferrous sulfate and the patient (75.5 %). The overall adherence was medium in the pre-test (50.0 %) and high in the post-test (100.0 %). Message reception was high for the overall test (62.6 %), reminder (79.2 %), informational (79.2 %), and motivational (75.0 %) messages. Conclusion: Virtual health messages have a positive effect on maternal therapeutic adherence for childhood anemia (p < 0.05) and their inclusion in primary health services will contribute favorably to obtaining optimal results.

Introduction: Assistive technology is aimed at improving the quality of nursing care for patients admitted to oncology intensive care units (ICUs). Objective: To develop a nursing admission form for patients admitted to an oncology intensive care unit. Materials and methods: This is a methodological study conducted in three stages: 1) an integrative literature review to compose the content of the research form, 2) content validation, which included the participation and approval of 15 specialists (nurses) using Pasquali’s concordance validation method, and 3) presentation of the final version of the form. Results: A total of 20 articles were included in the review; the first version of the form was structured based on the thematic synthesis; 15 specialists participated in content validation and, after completion of the instrument, it was found that all the items had a content validation index ≥ 0.85; based on the suggestions, the admission form was organized into blocks of items: identification, brief history, admission conditions, and physical examination, with a total of four items. Conclusions: The nursing survey form for patients admitted to oncology ICUs is suitable for use by the nursing team at the time of patient admission, enabling data recording to support the planning and systematization of care in the oncology ICU setting.
