We describe a criterion for a real or complex hyperbolic lattice to admit a residually finite rational solvable (RFRS) tower that consists entirely of congruence subgroups. We use this to show that certain Bianchi groups PSL 2 (𝒪 d ) are virtually fibered on congruence subgroups, and also exhibit the first examples of RFRS Kähler groups that are not a subgroup of a product of surface groups and abelian groups.

In this paper, we construct a scattering theory for classical massive Dirac fields near the “double” horizon of an extreme Kerr–de Sitter blackhole. Our main tool is the existence of a conjugate operator in the sense of Mourre theory. Additionally, despite the fact that effects of the rotation are “amplified” near the double horizon, we show that one can still reduce our study to a 1-dimensional problem through an appropriate decomposition of the Hilbert space.

Let X be a complex nonsingular affine algebraic variety, K a compact holomorphically convex subset of X, and Y a homogeneous complex manifold for some complex linear algebraic group. We prove that a holomorphic map f:K→Y can be uniformly approximated on K by regular maps K→Y if and only if f is homotopic to a regular map K→Y. However, it may happen that a null homotopic holomorphic map K→Y does not admit uniform approximation on K by regular maps X→Y. The absolute sets of local systems on a smooth complex algebraic variety are the subject of a conjecture of N. Budur and B. Wang based on an analogy with special subvarieties of Shimura varieties. An absolute set should be the higher-dimensional generalization of a local system of geometric origin. We show that the conjecture for absolute sets of simple cohomologically rigid local systems reduces to the zero-dimensional case, that is, to Simpson's conjecture that every such local system with quasi-unipotent monodromy at infinity and determinant is of geometric origin. In particular, the conjecture holds for this type of absolute sets if the variety is a curve or if the rank is two.
