Impact of foreign trade and foreign direct investment on economic growth: Empirical insights from Nepal 外贸和外国直接投资对经济增长的影响:尼泊尔的经验启示

This study aims to examine the impact of foreign trade and foreign direct investment on Nepal’s long-term economic growth. It uses secondary data from 1989/90 to 2021/22 collected from various economic surveys of the Ministry of Finance of Nepal. Descriptive and explanatory research designs are used in this study. The trace, max-eigen tests, and fully modified least square methods search the long-run co-integration and impact between response and predictor variables. Trace and max-eigen tests consistently point toward the long-run co-integration between dependent (gross domestic product) and independent (import, export, total trade, and foreign direct investment) variables. Exports and imports are found to be negative and statistically significant to explain Nepal’s economic growth. One unit increase in exports results in a 0.748 unit decrease in Nepal’s economic growth. Similarly, total trade volume and foreign direct investment positively impact economic growth. Each unit increase in foreign direct investment results in a 0.0036 unit increase in GDP in Nepal. Foreign trade has a multiplier effect on Nepal’s GDP growth. The 76.35 percent variation in economic growth depends upon total foreign trade volume, exports, imports, and foreign direct investment. To promote sustainable economic growth, policymakers should prioritize policies encouraging increased total foreign trade and foreign direct investment while carefully managing the potential negative impact of excessive reliance on import dynamics.

Unlocking the sustainable value with digitalization: Views of maritime stakeholders on business opportunities 利用数字化释放可持续价值:海事利益相关方对商机的看法

Digitalization in the maritime sector encompasses interconnected technologies that enhance efficiency, risk mitigation, and safety in marine operations and offshore assets management. Digital twin, or virtual assets, plays a pivotal role within this digital ecosystem. This study aims to explore the transformative potential of digital twins in the maritime industry, focusing on their capacity to improve sustainability, optimize productivity, and drive innovative business models. A quantitative methodology was employed to investigate this potential in the maritime sector, utilizing questionnaires to gather insights and perspectives from key stakeholders in the Northwestern part of Norway’s maritime industry, including ship designers, shipyards, equipment suppliers, and ship owners. Among the 23 respondents, there were individuals holding senior, leadership, management, and specialized digitalization roles. Notably, 65% of these respondents possessed over 20 years of experience in the maritime industry. The survey reveals a strong interest in adopting digital twins within the maritime sector (70% of respondents). The findings underscore the potential advantages of digital twin solutions, including predictive maintenance (16%), real-time operational efficiency enhancements (17%), and design optimization (18%). Nevertheless, implementation complexity (73.9%) and data integration (73.9%) loom significant obstacles. Respondents also recognize the potential for new product opportunities and innovative business models arising from digital twin implementation. Sustainability initiatives are emphasized, particularly in real-time monitoring (83%), retrofitting (74%), and predictive maintenance (65%). Cybersecurity (65%) and data protection (62%) are critical concerns. Furthermore, implementing digital twins is anticipated to promote collaboration and information sharing among maritime industry stakeholders, underscoring their potential for transformative impact.

Factors influencing attitudes toward aging workforce: Evidence from college students in Southern Thailand 影响对老龄劳动力态度的因素:来自泰国南部大学生的证据

As the aging population grows, examining attitudes and intentions toward joining the aging workforce is of greater importance. This study examines factors influencing Southern Thai college students’ attitudes and intentions to join the aging workforce. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 412 undergraduate students from three universities in the region. The survey measured attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and intention to be older workers based on the theory of planned behavior using a 5-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using the path analysis technique. The findings indicated significant associations between attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and intentions to be older workers among college students. Attitudes toward older workers positively influenced subjective norms (β = 0.71, p = 0.001), and perceived behavioral control also had a significant impact on subjective norms (β = 0.11, p = 0.05) and on the intention to be older workers (β = 0.23, p < 0.05). Subjective norms, in turn, positively influenced intentions to be older workers (β = 0.42, p < 0.001). The impact of entrepreneurial behavior on entrepreneurial human resources management: The mediating role of entrepreneurial orientation 创业行为对创业人力资源管理的影响:创业导向的中介作用

Entrepreneurial human resources management can establish competitive advantages by consistently fostering superior human resources contributions within companies. This is achieved through the development of skilled employees who are passionate about delivering quality products and services. This study sets out to explore the role of entrepreneurial orientation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly the relationship between entrepreneurial behavior and entrepreneurial human resource management. An online questionnaire technique was used to meet the research objectives. The study sample consisted of 356 participants from human resource management departments from 30 SMEs in the Al-Hassan Industrial Estate (HIE) in northern Jordan. The structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to examine the data. The results displayed that entrepreneurial behavior positively and significantly impacts both entrepreneurial human resources management and entrepreneurial orientation. Additionally, entrepreneurial orientation positively impacts entrepreneurial human resources management. Entrepreneurial orientation partially mediates the relationship between entrepreneurial behavior and entrepreneurial human resources management. According to these findings, human resources management policies and practices influence the level of entrepreneurship within an organization.

This study aims to assess the intricate interplays between managerial ability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and firm value, focusing on 3,498 company-year observations sourced from the RANKINS CSR RATINGS and China Stock Market & Accounting Research (CSMAR) databases representing China’s Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2009 to 2018. Employing a rigorous sample selection process and utilizing data from reliable databases, the research employs a comprehensive methodology to explore the intricate corporate sustainability-related dynamics influencing organizational success and societal impact.The findings reveal a compelling negative correlation between managerial ability and CSR performance, corroborating previous research and suggesting potential challenges in reconciling managerial competence with social responsibility priorities. Furthermore, this paper establishes a negative correlation between CSR and firm value, with managerial ability influencing the magnitude of this impact, underscoring the significance of managerial skills in moderating the relationship between CSR initiatives and overall corporate performance. Moreover, the study uncovers a robust positive correlation between managerial ability and firm value, emphasizing the pivotal role of adept leadership in achieving higher corporate valuation. It provides valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and scholars, creating a conducive environment for well-informed decision-making. The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of business intelligence capabilities on firm performance, with a specific emphasis on the role of firm agility and the impact of knowledge-oriented leadership within this association. The paper used a quantitative approach using data from a sample of 237 participants randomly chosen from a pool of 34 high-tech companies in Jordan. The study included a diverse range of participants, including individuals occupying various professions, such as managers, supervisors, analysts, and other relevant positions. This broad sample was selected to provide a full comprehension of the influence of business intelligence capabilities on firm performance. This approach allowed for the inclusion of various organizational levels and views, therefore capturing a wide range of insights. The study used the partial least squares modeling technique to analyze cross-sectional data to investigate the proposed model. The findings of this analysis, with a statistically significant p-value of less than 0.05, elucidate that the capabilities of business intelligence exert a substantial influence on the agility of a firm, subsequently affecting the firm’s overall performance. Moreover, firm agility mediates the correlation between its business intelligence capabilities and firm performance. Additionally, knowledge-oriented leadership moderates the effect of business intelligence capabilities on firm agility.

Innovative behavior refers to the deliberate engagement in activities to generate and embrace novel ideas, concepts, or approaches to execute and accomplish tasks effectively. This study aims to investigate the impact of transformational leadership and emotional intelligence on innovative work behavior through knowledge sharing. The research population was employees in several public hospitals in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. This quantitative study used survey methodology by sending questionnaires to administrative employees of public hospitals. The samples for this study consisted of 129 administrative employees with a minimum of one year of service at various public hospitals. The investigation employed a Likert scale questionnaire to gather data, which were subsequently analyzed utilizing SEM-PLS in conjunction with SmartPLS 4.0 software. The findings of this study indicate the influence between transformational leadership and emotional intelligence on knowledge sharing (p < 0.05) and innovative work behavior (p < 0.05). In addition, knowledge sharing affects innovative work behavior (p < 0.05). This study aims to investigate the interplay between employee engagement and innovation performance in shaping the success of manufacturing and service enterprises in Albania and Kosovo. The data collection involved the distribution of questionnaires to entrepreneurs, managers, and employees of the enterprises, with direct interviews conducted in some cases. The data collection period spanned from the end of 2022 to the beginning of 2023. SPSS was employed to create the database and analyze the collected data. The study encompasses 190 companies operating in the services and production sectors, with 100 located in Albania and 90 in Kosovo. The selection of these sectors is based on their significant contribution to the region’s economic landscape. Of the total enterprises, 105 (55%) are manufacturing enterprises, and 85 (45%) are service enterprises.The findings reveal a robust and positive correlation between employee engagement, innovation performance, and business success. Employee engagement (r = 0.458**) and innovation performance (r = 0.396**) exhibit significant correlations (p < 0.01), with both factors demonstrating statistical significance (p = 0.000). The multivariate regression analysis confirms the positive influence of both employee engagement and innovation performance on business success, supported by a significance of ANOVA analysis (p = .000). This study contributes to the understanding of the specific dynamics of employee engagement and innovation performance in the context of manufacturing and service enterprises in Albania and Kosovo. It offers valuable insights for managers and entrepreneurs seeking to enhance the success of their organizations.
