Objectives: Personality organization or functioning describes biographically acquired characteristics for the regulation of psychological processes. Limitations correlate with symptom load. This study examines whether significant improvement in personality functioning can be achieved in the framework of a multimodal psychodynamic treatment and its influence on the psychological symptoms. Methods: In this naturalistic study design (N = 318) personality organization was measured with the OPD-SQS and the symptoms were obtained using PHQ-9, GAD-7, SCL-9 and mini- Spin. Changes in the functioning levels were calculated using a t-test. The associations between the functional and symptom improvements were calculated using hierarchical regressionmodels. ANOVAs for dependent samples were used to calculate the association of the personality organization changes on symptom reduction Results: Treatment resulted in significant improvement in personality structure. The greater the changes, the lower the symptom burden at the end of treatment. Patients with lower personality structure benefited equally well from treatment. Conclusions: Personality functioning improves with multimodal psychodynamic therapy and is accompanied by reduction of psychological symptoms. Structural changes proceed equally in high and low structured patients.

Objectives: The present explorative study evaluates the question of media regulation in treatment and the question of psychoanalysts' experiences with digital crossings of boundaries. Methods: Using a self-constructed questionnaire, N = 50 completed questionnaires were distributed to psychoanalysts (age: M = 48,64, SD = 12,71; m = 44 %, f = 56 %) at the 51st IPA Congress held in July 2019 that were analyzed using aMann-Whitney U-test and Chi square test. Results: The majority of the psychoanalysts surveyed 68 %, (n = 34) do not regularly discuss the use ofmedia with their patients at the beginning of treatment, 28%(n = 14) of the analysts surveyed contacted their patients using digital media services without discussing this possibility of contact beforehand, 16 % (n = 8) contacted their patients at night, 46 %, n = 23 googled their patients and 24 %, (n = 12) secretly used a mobile phone during analysis. Conclusions: Due to the advancing technology of the health care system, further psychoanalytic research that accompanies the process of using media in treatment is necessary.

How do therapists react when their patients or they themselves develop erotic feelings in the therapeutic setting? Conceptual differences of different therapy approaches (psychoanalytic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and client-centered therapy), specific attitudes of therapists and possibilities of intervention will be shown. The literature search in several databases revealed that in comparison to the abundance of psychoanalytic literature on the topic, little (but relevant) information can be found in the two other approaches. These publications point to the regular occurrence of feelings of infatuation in behavioral therapy and client-centered psychotherapy and to a need to engage with the topic as therapists. The consensus of the publications presented here is that therapists want to accept and work with feelings of infatuation in patients and in themselves, while maintaining abstinence. It is considered especially important not to shame disclosing patients by rejecting them. Treatment discontinuation should be avoided whenever possible. More research on erotic feelings in behavioral and client-centered psychotherapy is encouraged, as well as ideas for education and training.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate (1) the type and frequency of reported life events of the East German population related to the German reunification and (2) their associations with psychosocial health. Methods: Data of 2247 participants of the Study of Health in Pomerania was used. These qualitative responses were analysed using quantitative content analysis. Their associations with subjective physical and mental health, optimism, social support, depressive symptoms, and chronic stress were examined. Results: Eight life event categories were identified (education, employment-related changes, material changes, new opportunities, personal life events, politics, separations, reunifications). Especially, experiencing new opportunities was associated with a higher level of optimism as well as a lower level of depressive symptoms and chronic stress. Conclusions: In this study, events frequently described in the literature (e.g., employment-related and social changes) were confirmed and systematized. The observed associations of these events with psychosocial factors should be examined further in future studies.

Objectives: The aim of this clinical trial was to explore whether psychodynamic-interactional therapy leads to a better outcome in the treatment of somatoform pain disorders when combined with body therapy. Methods: 30 patients diagnosed with this disorder took part in outpatient group therapies with 25 sessions. In the intervention condition, sessions based on psychodynamic-interactional and body therapy took place in weekly change, while in the control condition all sessions were based on psychodynamic-interactional therapy. Data were collected with self-report measures at the beginning and end of therapy and at the 6-months follow-up. Results: Under both conditions somatic and psychological symptoms merely remained stable from the first to the third measurement time. However, patients expressed a high level of satisfaction with the relationships in the group. Conclusions: Contrary to the assumptions, the two therapy conditions did not differ in the treatment outcome. Both conditions proved successful in providing patients with supporting interpersonal experiences.
