This article explores how actor training, and physical actor training especially, can shift fromthe well-established historical norm of live workshop interaction to embrace online possibilities. It briefl y examines some of the contextual issues around institutional approaches to training, includingstudents’ expectations, and charts some digital innovations in the fi eld. It then traces theauthor’s own evolutionary history of publishing using analogue and then digital tools, from drawings, through CD-ROMs and DVDs to online materials. This has culminated in the publicationpre-pandemic, though anticipating subsequent shifts online, of ‘Physical Actor training – an onlineA-Z’ (PATAZ), for Methuen Drama Bloomsbury. PATAZ is introduced as a case study, showing howthe project team developed fi lm material as a means to articulate key aspects of training practice;for example by showing the learning and training process, for presenting voice work and for actors’explorations of space and movement. The article describes how the project’s fi lms were augmentedwith various digital tools, such as on-screen animation and it introduces some of the rangeof approaches in fi lming and editing that were adopted to differentiate each term. It concludesby suggesting that we are only at the beginning of a digital revolution regards actor training, its documentation and analysis and related publishing practices.

The subject of this article is the non-obviousness of the holiday neighbourhood of Polish visitorsand German hosts in Sopot in the fi rst decades of the 20th century, especially in the interwarperiod. Admittedly, this was a temporary neighbourhood, but its context was obviously the historicalneighbourhood of the two nations. The crucial question, then, is: what is the result of the particularintermingling of these two communities? The answer to it must take into account the history of twentieth-century Sopot. Stanisław Dygat’s writings – selected novels, short stories and columns – serveas a literary illustration of the phenomenon.

The article analyses Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s short story Zarudzie as an expression of his unconsciousreaction to the journalism and other writings that came from Jerzy Giedroyc’s circleand concerned the issue of the Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation. Given his personal connection toUkraine, Iwaszkiewicz may have felt compelled to respond, but the direct reason was most likelythe involvement of his grandson, Maciej Włodek, in smuggling the publications of the Literary Instituteto Poland, i.e. the case of the so-called mountaineers.

The changes that the former East Prussia underwent in the aftermath of WW2 resulted ina great degree from the appearance of new hierarchies and neighbourhoods. In the rural landscapesof Masuria and Warmia, State Agricultural Farms played a signifi cant role, largely shaping thesurroundings. The State Farms, housed in existing manor houses and palaces, transformed theminto offi ces, staff residences, clubrooms, and preschools. On the basis of selected competitiondiaries, the article examines various narrative strategies and individual practices aimed at adaptingto the new economic and social reality in the post-war landscape, formerly defi ned by the manor.

The article demonstrates the constructive and numinous nature of the neighbourhood of categoriesof people stereotypically considered mutually hostile or superior/inferior, as well as of peopleand nature to which they belong although they do not pay attention to it on a daily basis. The readingof three selected prose works published at the turn of 21st century – by P. Huelle, S. Chwin, andO. Tokarczuk – highlights previously overlooked aspects of neighbourly relations, a peculiar interpretationof which in 2015–2023 came to the fore in Polish public discourse on neighbourhoods thatare unwanted or cause problems.

The article discusses The Project Moments, a collection of thirty interviews with Ukrainian refugeewomen in Poland, developed by the Institute of Reportage in Warsaw in 2021. Additionally,a number of non-fi ction works about the war in Ukraine, written in Poland and abroad, are referenced. The perspective of media and literary studies illuminates intercultural challenges of the currentsocial situation in Poland. The concept of „contact zone” (M. Luis Pratt), used in this context, helpsto demonstrate that Polish communication with Ukrainians often refl ects the attitude of superiorityand ignorance. The Project Moments responds to such a diagnosis, enabling an insight intothe psychological and social situation of the witnesses of war. This publication is an example ofempathetic journalism, creating a safe space for expressing emotions such as grief, fear, sadnessor helplessness. The Project Moments also registers the work of trauma, as well as cases of agencyand resilience.

The article addresses the question of the possibility of the development of a multicultural andmulti-religious society in East-Central Europe. What prevents such a process is the limited receptionof the Enlightenment in the region, the fundamental role of religion in defending national identities, and the delayed opening to otherness in comparison with the countries of the West. Present-daydynamic changes in all spheres of life – from demography, through politics, to technology – andthe concomitant reactive policies with regard to the problem of immigration are also far fromconducive to such a possibility. The primary solution is the development of long-term educationalprogrammes aiming at a redefi nition of a multicultural society.

The article is a microhistorical analysis of neighbourly relations in Lviv in the interwar period, especially in its second decade, placed in a broader cultural, social and political context. Archivalresearch helps demonstrate the interference between the sphere of national communities and thatof local communities, and between public discourses and narratives refl ecting and shaping interpersonalrelations, such as neighbourly conversations, gossip and intrigues. Accounts created byLviv’s neighbourhoods representing different nationalities – Polish and Ukrainian – for example theirdenunciations, testimonies and accusations, shed light on the tension between the physical (territorial)proximity of neighbours and their socio-psychological distance, or rather politically motivated hostility.
