This study investigates the influence of translation training programmes on translation competence (TC). It explores workplace requirements, reflecting the overall situation in the Saudi translation market. A mixed-method approach was adopted to compare the performance of undergraduate translation students to that of professional translators. TC is examined in relation to three main components: language proficiency, knowledge of the subject area, and knowledge of the translation process. The results emphasise the influence of programme design on learning outcomes and assert the importance of post-graduate translation training programmes in offering professional learning experiences that simulate the changing reality in the local market. The results suggest that specialised training programs, effectively connecting academic knowledge gained in BA translation programmes to practical professional prospects, should follow the completion of such programmes. Advanced coordination is thus encouraged between academic institutions and the job market, including regular and consistent reports presenting tasks, positions, and areas of employment required by the market. Such reports requested by academic institutions are essential for redesigning academic programmes and guiding future translators throughout their careers.

The study delves into how individuals' lack of knowledge plays a crucial role in making them susceptible to control by those who aim to rule over them. This theme is prominently featured in Silone's Fontamara , where the author sheds light on the long-standing exploitation and resignation of Abruzzo's peasants and the broader working class. The novel not only serves as a poignant account of the harsh conditions endured by Abruzzese peasants during the fascist regime but also as a guide on sustaining control over a community for an extended period. Ignorance in this context becomes a barrier, preventing people from understanding and claiming their rights, expressing annoyance at their suffering, and ultimately causing them to unwittingly lose their rights once learned. A society marked by illiteracy and lack of awareness finds itself incapable of having advocates for its cause. Moreover, those desiring to escape for a more human life are thwarted by authorities, fearing the potential return with enlightened ideas that might challenge the status quo. Fontamara is a critique and condemnation of fascism, its oppression of the impoverished, and the corruption within the church, exploiting religion to dominate the ignorant.

In the realm of interpretation training, understanding students’ perspectives on the factors influencing their performance is crucial for devising effective solutions. This case study embarked on a comprehensive exploration of interpretation students’ viewpoints, examining the challenges they face and the potential solutions they propose to enhance their interpretation abilities. Through the implementation of a meticulously designed online questionnaire, the study sought to uncover the significant obstacles encountered in interpretation from the students’ standpoint, while simultaneously unravelling the underlying reasons behind these challenges and the prevailing teaching methods employed in interpretation courses. The responses obtained from 234 interpretation students enrolled in Saudi universities shed light on their profound appreciation for guidance and support, particularly in comprehending and proficiently employing translation strategies. The students also expressed a strong desire for feedback on their interpretation performance and an eagerness to acquire effective note-taking techniques. Recognizing the paramount importance of continuous improvement, the students acknowledge the significance of these aspects in elevating their overall interpretation abilities.
