Membranes are at the heart of the green hydrogen economy and are used at every stage along the infrastructure highway – from production of the gas to its end use. This article looks at the role membranes play in electrolysers, and carbon capture and storage, and how they can be used to produce hydrogen from feedstocks, such as biomass and bio-waste. It also illustrates their application in the production of green ammonia and the way in which this compound can be converted into ultra-pure hydrogen for a range of uses.
