Objective: to determine the adverse effects associated with the use of amphotericin B in neonates of the Neonatology Service of the National Hospital of Itauguá, in the period 2013 2015. Materials and methods: retrospective case series study of newborns treated with amphotericin B. Results: among 28 newborns treated with amphotericin B, there was a higher prevalence in males. With regard to age, more than half of the newborns were pre-term in the group studied. There was a predominance of low birth weight (32.14%). The risk factors showed that 53.5% did not have a history of sepsis. The mean age of onset of amphotericin was 19 ± 9 days, more than half of the infants used progressive dose from 0.5 mg / kp / day to 1 mg / kp / day, in 24 hours. 96.4% received infusion of amphotericin B for 4 hours, 1 case required 6 hours. Among the side effects, 35.7% of the patients presented anemia, the most frequent water and electrolyte disturbance was hypokalemia, among the signs were tachycardia and hypotension. Conclusions: the most striking side effects found during treatment with amphotericin B were anemia, Sodium and Potassium alterations.

Introduction: Preterm birth is the cause of the greatest number of neonatal deaths worldwide and also of neurological sequels, this implies a high cost for the family and the State. Many studies have already been done to try to prevent it. Objective: to update the ultrasound methods used to diagnose cervical alterations in relation to preterm delivery. Results: transvaginal ultrasound can measure and evaluate the characteristics of the cervix in pregnant women, which is why it is the most widely used method to identify women at risk of spontaneous preterm birth, and it can be used as screening due to its accessible cost and availability in the Health services. Conclusions: the ultrasound measurement of the length of the cervix at 23 weeks of gestation represents the best independent predictor for delivery before 32 weeks. Introduction: ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a frequent congenital heart disease, which varies from a minute defect without hemodynamic consequences to a large defect, accompanied by heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. Although medical treatment manages to control heart failure, it is undoubted that in some cases surgical closure is necessary. Objective: to describe the clinical characteristics of the pre- and post-operative of patients undergoing IVC closure. Methodology: observational, descriptive, retrospective study, which included 74 patients from 3 months to 16 years of age, undergoing surgical closure of VSD in the Pediatric Cardiology Department of Hospital de Clínicas FCM-UNA in the 2012-2017 period. Clinical, electrocardiographic and echocardiographic variables are described in the pre- and postoperative period. Cases of intra-operative death, cases with complex congenital heart defects associated with VSD and atrioventricular canal were excluded. Results: the most frequently intervened VSD was the perimembranous type (95%) and the majority with preoperative grade I functional class (52%). Post-operative parameters (electrocardiogram and echocardiography) normalized in most patients, with a decrease in evidence of cardiac chamber overload. Infectious (67%) and pulmonary (pneumothorax and atelectasis) complications occurred. The mortality was 1.3%. Conclusion: Surgical closure of the VSD had significant morbidity, low mortality and excellent functional recovery.

We present a clinical case of intestinal perforation for chicken bone treated at the Central Hospital of the Social Security Institute (IPS). The patient was a 71-year-old woman who was referred from another center with 24 hs abdominal pain, with nausea and vomiting. Laparoscopic surgery, a was done and sigmoid perforation was found by foreign body (chicken bone) that was treated with primary suture of the perforation and laparoscopic drainage of the cavity.

Intestinal injuries due to blunt or closed abdominal trauma are less frequent; however, they represent the third most injured frecuent organ for this cause. Early diagnosis of intestinal injure is difficult and any delay is associated with high morbidity and mortality. The complementary study for its diagnosis in a stable patient is tomography. We present a case of a 56 years old woman who attended goes to the Emergency Service for a history of motor vehicle accident. Based on predictive criteria for intestinal and mesenteric lesions, emergency surgery was indicated, getting an early diagnosis and treatment of intestinal lesion in blunt trauma by laparoscopy.
