Characterization of first generation advanced high strength steel of the complex phase class for automotive application though light optical microscopy and electron backscattering diffraction 用光学显微镜和电子后向散射衍射表征第一代汽车用复杂相高强度钢

As the demand for Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) increases, the need for faster and reliable ways to identify their microstructure and quantify the phase distribution becomes more evident. For some types of steels this can be done by a simple color etching and light optical microscopy (LOM) imaging. On the other hand, steels with more complex microstructural distribution require a combination of additional techniques, many of which are time-consuming, such as dilatometry or electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD). In this work, a combination of LOM and EBSD was used to quantify the microstructure of Complex-Phase steels. The methods used to process the data and distinguish the microconstituents in EBSD is explained and some exemplary results obtained in industrial steels are reported. Also, a previously used way to quantitatively compare the LOM and EBSD results is also shown to confirm the validity of the approach discussed in the present work.

Effects of thermal aging and functionalized epoxy matrix with graphene nanoplates in fique fabric-reinforced composites 热老化及石墨烯纳米片功能化环氧基对纤维纤维增强复合材料的影响

Currently, the demand for high quality and reliable components and materials is increasing, so bending testing has become a vital test method, both in research and manufacturing and development process, to explain in detail about the material’s ability to withstand deformation under load. This research investigated flexural properties of polymeric composites reinforced with natural fiber, in particular the fique fabric, with addition of graphene nanoplates (GNP) (0.1%; 0.5% and 0.9%) and degradation at high temperature (0, 5 and 10 days), as it was never reported. Using design of experiments (DoE), ie, 3-full factorial design with two replications, aiming to analyze the effects of important parameters, which are exposure time and GNP addition percentage. The output response measurement was identified as deflection at fracture, modulus of rupture and elasticity values. Randomized experiments were conducted based on table generated via Minitab 19 software. Scanning electron microscopy analysis confirmed the main influences on flexural analysis responses.

The processing of medical components of Ti-6Al-4V ELI typically includes forging and machining. Recently there has been a growing interest in additive manufacturing since this technology allows the production of customized components with high dimensional precision and minimum material loss. However, there are problems associated with additive manufacturing, such as the need to employ finishing methods and mainly the reduction of fatigue performance by internal defects and high surface roughness. This work aimed to evaluate the likelihood of using the Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy processed by additive manufacturing in hip implants. A material selection method based on the weighting of characteristics was used considering solely aspects of mechanical properties. Hence, in a mechanical performance scenario, some processes involving additive manufacturing were found to be feasible for application in hip implants, for instance Directed Energy Deposition (DED) and Selective Laser Melting (SLM), both followed by machining.

Characterization and processing of an haematitic stockpile for pellet feed production 用于颗粒饲料生产的赤铁矿储备的特性和处理

A current concern related to low-grade stockpiles is to develop processing routes for the production of high-grade pellet feed. The stockpiles possess complex mineralogical composition of hematite and undesirable minerals bearers of aluminium and sulphur that require the development of a processing route aiming the production of high iron grade material with acceptable grades of contaminants. With an average iron grade of 48.6%, the material of the haematitic stockpiles was produced at the end of a beneficiation process consisting of crushing and screening. After grinding to achieve P80 106 μm, satisfactory concentration was achieved by magnetic separation (WHIMS) in three or four stages, depending on the desired product quality. Such flexibility led to the proposal of two possible processing routes. When the scavenger stage product is incorporated into the pellet feed, although the iron grade diminishes, the mass recovery increases by approximately 5%. The investigation proved that it is possible to produce pellet feed from the haematitic stockpiles with the processing routes tested. However, further grinding is required in order to adequate the material granulometry for its application as pellet feed.
