many truly dedicated people in the profession who have accepted the challenge and have striven to achieve the many goals that have been set over the years. After 50 years the profession is still young, and I sincerely hope we can continue to develop nationally and retain our strong international image. The future looks promising. Already, with preparations well under way for the 13th International Health Records Congress, this year is shaping up to be another important one for our profession. We cannot, however, be complacent. We need to continue to encourage graduates to join the Association when they finish their courses and to become involved with its activities at both State and Federal level. Only in this way, can we ensure that the future of the Association is secure.

With continued rapid advances in technologies, interactive health communication (IHC) is becoming an area of significant interest in health care delivery. IHC describes the access and transmission of health information through electronic devices or communication technology, where the information gained is used to receive guidance and support regarding health-related issues, in order to better make health decisions to promote health (Robinson et al., 1998). This communication is changing the nature of the relationship between health professionals and individuals. This paper will first examine the uses and dangers of IHC in terms of Internet technologies, and discuss the implications for health care professionals.
