Parallel genetic algorithm for generation expansion planning 并行遗传算法用于发电扩展规划

This paper presents an application of parallel genetic algorithm to optimal long-range generation expansion planning. The problem is formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem that determines the number of newly introduced generation units of each technology during different time intervals. A new string representation method for the problem is presented. Binary and decimal coding for the string representation method are compared. The method is implemented on transputers, one of the practical multi-processors. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated on a typical generation expansion problem with four technologies, five intervals, and a various number of generation units. It is compared favorably with dynamic programming and conventional genetic algorithm. The results reveal the speed and effectiveness of the proposed method for solving this problem.

TIGER: real-time situation assessment of dynamic systems TIGER:动态系统的实时态势评估

Industry is dominated by dynamic systems such as process control of chemical plants or steel plants and power generation, ranging to areas such as ecological systems and traffic systems. A challenging problem is to perform real-time monitoring and diagnosis of such dynamic systems. The paper describes the work of the TIGER ESPRIT Project in performing real-time situation assessment of dynamic systems. The goal of TIGER is to monitor a complex dynamic system in real time and make an assessment of whether it is working properly. If it is not working properly, it is desirable to identify the cause of the problem either from a set of known faults or to characterise an unknown fault. This work is applied in the application domain of condition monitoring of gas turbines. The project is developing and demonstrating its techniques on two industrial gas turbines; a 28 mW gas turbine used as the prime power for a chemical plant and a small auxiliary power gas turbine used in aviation. The Project is investigating a variety of tools and techniques for real-time situation assessment. These include a high-speed rule-based compiler, a situation assessment tool able to monitor dynamic responses over time, qualitative and numerical prediction of turbine response, and model-based diagnosis to help identify unknown faults. A prototype system is currently in use at a chemical plant performing monitoring and diagnosis in real-time.

Heterogeneous integration architecture for intelligent control systems 智能控制系统的异构集成体系结构

Better automation is a key to the improvement of industrial competitiveness. However, in most industrial plants, full automation is not possible because intelligent decisions play an essential part in guaranteeing the success of the production process. The currently favoured solution is to rely on human controllers for intelligent input, although instances of installations with AI-based control do exist. Our belief is that process control problems require the cooperative application of more than one AI technique to be successful, and that the lack of a common framework to support AI-based process control designs has contributed to their relative lack of penetration in the industrial market-place. The HINT Project (ESPRIT E6447) has been created to address this perceived need. We are engaged in developing a conceptual framework, a software architecture, and a methodology which will together support the integration of different AI techniques to provide solutions to process control problems that require the kind of intelligent supervision that is currently carried out by human operatives.

ARCHON: framework for intelligent cooperation 执政官:智能合作的框架

The paper describes the work that has taken place in the ARCHON Project, ESPRIT project P-2256. The consortium has developed a general-purpose architecture, which can be used to facilitate cooperative problem-solving in industrial applications. The paper describes the need for a multiple agent approach for industrial applications, outlines the benefits which can be accrued by adopting this paradigm, and describes the key difficulties which must be faced when building a multi-agent system in this domain. Details of the ARCHON architecture are presented, including a description of the main functional components and their realisation in a hybrid agent model. An example of cooperative fault diagnosis in an electricity management application is described in order to provide a clear illustration of the working of the ARCHON architecture, and to provide a concrete example of the potential benefits of a multi-agent approach. >

Fuzzy model of cutting process on a milling machine 铣床切削过程的模糊模型

A fuzzy model of the cutting process has been obtained for a vertical milling-machine, adopting a previously used technique (Sugeno-Yasukawa, 1991). The inputs are cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, tool diameter, and workpiece hardness, and the output is the result of the three-axis force sensing signal, working directly on the machine tool. The identification approach is a blackbox type, where only a file of I/O data is necessary to construct the model. The fuzzy model consists of a number of IF...THEN rules with fuzzy antecedents and consequents. Five fuzzy models have been generated according to the material type used. The output error and the relative output error have been used as performance indices of the fuzzy models.

Decentralised fuzzy control of multivariable systems by passive decomposition 多变量系统被动分解的分散模糊控制

The paper considers the problem of decentralised fuzzy control of multivariable systems. Some definitions and theorems with regard to this problem are given. Decentralised fuzzy control algorithms, based on passive decomposition of control laws, are presented and illustrated by numerical examples. The algorithms use local sets of fuzzy relations for the subsystems whose control variables are not affected by the interactional sets of fuzzy relations. It is shown that the number of fuzzy relations is significantly reduced, and thus real-time control implementation is facilitated.

Using the ARTIST approach for diagnosing power transmission networks 用ARTIST方法诊断输电网

Model-based diagnosis is regarded by many as a way to overcome the limitations of first-generation knowledge-based systems which perform fault classification by means of empirical symptom-failure associations. Many different approaches to model-based diagnosis exist. The ESPRIT ARTIST project, focusing on the development of model-based techniques for diagnosis of industrial systems, has tried to integrate these approaches within a common generic architecture so that a given application system could be generated by composing a particular diagnostic system from a set of predeveloped and hence reusable modules. There is an overview of the main results of the ARTIST project, its generic architecture and the three diagnostic systems developed and tested within the project. An industrial application to management of electrical transmission networks is presented.

The paper surveys scheduling theory results obtained mainly at the Institute of Engineering Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and published on the whole in Russian. The survey deals with the job-shop, flow-shop and open-shop scheduling problems, and with sequencing jobs on one machine and on a set of parallel machines. The more complicated problems and applied aspects of scheduling theory are also observed. Some trends of further research in scheduling and sequencing are outlined. >

A neural function is developed that combines the characteristics of weightless and weighted binary neurons. A new combined generalisation algorithm is presented and applied to a neural state machine which is capable of learning to respond to sequences of inputs. The difficulty with such tasks lies in learning appropriate internal state assignments. A particular ‘iconic’ method of solving this problem is discussed. The analysis includes a discussion of implementational issues.

Generic system architecture for supervisory fuzzy control 监控模糊控制的通用系统架构

A generic supervisory systems architecture is presented for control of two different types of systems; medical systems and industrial systems. It is structured in a hierarchical manner, consisting of a basic-level fuzzy logic controller supervised by a higher level decision-maker, which employs fuzzy logic theory to represent the human expertise used in supervising the plant including both the controller and the process. The supervisory level tasks consist of tuning, generating control rules, fault detection and diagnosis, together with an alarm and monitoring system. The paper is concerned more with the fault detection and diagnosis methods incorporated in the system. Simulation results for a medical system application are presented.
