Two new tree species, Didelotia korupensis and Tessmannia korupensis (Leguminosae, Caesalpinioideae), are described and illustrated. Didelotia korupensis is the 12th species in the genus. It is an understory tree to 15 m tall with an often leaning stem to 30(–53) cm diam. Didelotia korupensis is only known from an area of c. 4 km2 in and near the permanent plots along the P transect in the southern part of Korup National Park in Cameroon, where 51 trees have been recorded so far. Didelotia korupensis is assessed according to IUCN criteria as Endangered. Tessmannia korupensis is the 13th species in the genus. It is a canopy tree to 39 m tall with a stem to 105 cm diam. Tessmannia korupensis is known from seven groups of trees of 9 to 43 trees each, in and near the permanent plots along the P transect in the southern part of Korup National Park and from a single collection made in the lowland rain forest near Mt Cameroon. Tessmannia korupensis is assessed according to IUCN criteria as Endangered.
描述和说明了两个新树种,Didelotia korupensis和Tessmannia korupensis(豆科,Caesalpinioideae)。

After more than 100 years since the first discovery, Aquilaria rostrata, a critically endangered species listed in the IUCN Red List and presumably extinct, has been rediscovered in Terengganu State of Peninsular Malaysia. Here, we describe the history, taxonomy, ecology and conservation status of this endemic species, and compare our findings with the species description made from the first and only collection produced prior to this study. In addition, we present the similarities between A. rostrata and several Aquilaria species occurring in Peninsular Malaysia and neighbouring regions using molecular sequence data from the nuclear ribosomal DNA (Internal Transcribed Spacer) and chloroplast intergenic spacer region (trnL-trnF). Our morphological and sequence analyses support the separate status of A. rostrata, a long-lost endemic species of Malaysia.

Themeda Forssk. (Gramineae) has 11 taxa in Malesia. A revision is provided with keys, synonymy, where necessary lectotypifications, descriptions, and notes. Themeda gigantea nearly is a Philippine endemic, but with a single collection from Halmahera, and one as far away as the Solomon Islands. Themeda caudata is reduced to T. villosa var. caudata, comb. nov., and T. intermedia to T. villosa var. polyantha, comb. nov. Themeda polycephala, a new species, is described from Laos. Themeda hookeri is a new record for Thailand.

Nepenthes minima (Nepenthaceae), a new pyrophytic grassland species from Sulawesi, Indonesia

Nepenthes minima is the first known pyrophytic grassland Nepenthes species from outside Indochina and the Philippines. A member of the sect. Regiae (Borneo, Wallacea, New Guinea) it is restricted to the highland grasslands of Central Sulawesi (Celebes) and has close affinities with Nepenthes maxima. The existence of Nepenthes minima, unique to these grasslands, suggests that they may be natural and predate the human influences that expanded them beginning 2000–3000 BP.

Amorphophallus kienluongensis is described as a new species from southern Vietnam. It is morphologically close to A. brevispathus Gagnep. (Thailand) and A. prolificus Hett. & A.Galloway (Thailand). However, it differs from both these species by a stigma with a central depression and an obconic male portion. So far A. kienluongensis is known only from the Kien Luong district of the Kien Giang province, southern Vietnam. The plant grows on limestone hills where its habitat is under threat owing to quarrying for cement manufacture. Therefore this species could be ranked as CR (‘critically endangered’) in the IUCN ranking.

The scaly tree fern Alsophila weidenbrueckii is described and illustrated as new to science. It occurs in the Bismarck range in north-eastern New Guinea at 1200–2100 m in evergreen wet mountain forest. The species reaches maturity at a comparatively old age and large size and regenerates only in intact forests on mineral soil exposed by small landslides or tree falls.

Nepenthes (Nepenthaceae) of Halmahera, Indonesia
Q4 PLANT SCIENCES Pub Date : 2015-01-01 DOI: 10.3767/000651915x689091
M. Cheek
Two new paniculate species of Nepenthes, N. halmahera and N. weda, both allied to N. danseri Jebb & Cheek, are described respectively from lowland and lower montane forest on ultramafic substrate. Nepenthes weda appears to be unique in the genus due to the adaxial tepal surfaces which in the distal portion are hairy and lack nectar glands. This species is also unique among paniculate members of the genus in its forward-facing, concave subapical lid appendage. Both species are currently only known from the Weda Bay Nickel Project concession area in Halmahera, Indonesia, and are assessed as Critically Endangered using the 2012 IUCN standard. Two character states are formally described and named for the first time in Nepenthes: nanophyll rosettes and multiseriate fringed pitcher wings. Stage-related heteromorphy in lid appendages is documented for the first time in the genus. Keys to the species of Nepenthes of Halmahera, and to the paniculate species of SE Asia are presented.
