Physiological aging process leads to changes in all tissues and organs of the human organism. Changes of the tooth color with age occur as a result of the pulp chamber reduction and deposition of secondary dentine, when dentine become thicker and less transparent. The aim of this study was to determine degree of the tooth color change in relation to the age of patients and the gender. The study included 166 patients, aged from 18 to 77 years. All patients were divided into four age groups. Determination of the tooth color was performed by visual method using the Philips zoom shade guide chart in the middle third of the healthy upper central incisors. The results showed that 21,7% of the patients between 18-30 years had dominant light tooth color, 12.9% of the patients from 31-45 years had the medium color, and patients from 46-60 and older than 61 years in most cases had dark color of the teeth (9.1% and 21% respectively). The dominant light tooth color was A2, medium color A3, while the most common dark color was A3.5. Women had significantly lighter teeth compared to men. The study showed that younger patients had lighter teeth and that the color of teeth become darker with age.

The aim of the study is to make a whole morphologic characteristic and to assess the quantitative and qualitative patterns of finger images and sexual dimorphism among individuals from South Bulgaria. We studied a set of dermatoglyphics of 229 subjects from South Bulgaria (69 males, 160 females), clinically healthy, without ties of kinship to one another, aged 18 to 30 years. Rolled fingerprints were obtained by the ink method. Papillary patterns were classified into four main types. The data were analyzed with statistical software. We found pronounced gender differences in the quantitative and qualitative fingerprint patterns. Males have higher values of ridge number and also of Furuhata and Cummins’s indices, while in females the higher values are in Poll and Dankmeijer’s indices. The existence of gender-dependent expression of fluctuating asymmetry shows a tendency for a more pronounced asymmetry in males, gender related peculiarities in the course of the embryonic period.

Unimanual skills as hand lateralization predictors 单手技能作为手侧化的预测因素
Pub Date : 2018-01-01 DOI: 10.5937/GADS53-16603
Milena Cvetković, P. Vasiljević
The skill of writing with the left or right hand is often taken as a hand lateralization predictor. Taking into consideration that such a manifestation is usually practiced, left-handedness often becomes 'concealed', making it harder to be phenotypically measured. The aim of this study is to determine the predictability of multiple manual skills in relation to the type of handedness. The sample of 756 primary-school students with the aid of Edinburgh Handedness Inventory showed that writing and drawing skills using a particular hand have a very clear mutual correlation (0.86 with the left-handed, and 0.50 with the right-handed). However, the correlation was not determined with other observed unimanual skills, such as throwing, using scissors, using a tooth brush, using a key and holding a glass. In addition to that, writing as such is not a reliable hand lateralization predictor. In relation to hand lateralization, writing shows a low determination coefficient with the left-handed, whereas for other skills R2 varies within the range 0.43-0.66. The numbers are similar to the right-handed, where R2 varies within the range 0.28-0.53, for all skills, except writing and drawing. A conclusion can be drawn that writing is not a reliable predictor of lateralization to left or right, but that those are skills in relation to which there is no cultural pressure.

The use of ethnopharmacological therapies is a part of human tradition. For centuries, they have been used in the treatment of diabetes, as well as other illnesses. The aim of this study was to examine the frequency of traditional medicine use in Serbia. The study was conducted as an online survey in February 2018. 130 people were surveyed, 55.38 % of which were people diagnosed with diabetes. The most commonly used herbal substituents were M. piperita L. (21 %), traditional herbal mixtures designed to regulate the primary and secondary diabetes complications (15%), M. chamomilla L. (13 %) and pharmaceutical supplements based on traditional recipes (10 %). 100 % of people with diabetes adhere to contemporary pharmacotherapy, while 25.86 % of people without diabetes do not use pharmacotherapy, but exclusively traditional medicine. There is no significant difference between the diabetic population that uses traditional medicine (51.34 %) and the one who does not (48.61 %), whereas in non-diabetic population the difference is significant (p < 0.05) so that 87.93 % of them regularly use medicinal herbs. More women than men use ethnopharmacological treatments (p < 0.05). The age of the respondents and their education also have an impact on the choice of therapy, so ethnopharmacological approaches are the most often used by faculty educated people aged 30 to 50 years. Moreover, people pay attention to the quality of supplements they use, i.e. 57.96 % of people buy them in pharmacies, 29.55 % with certified sellers, and only 12.49 % at the local market.

One of the features of modern tourism is that an increasingly frequent travel motive is just a sport in terms of own participation as a factor of active vacation. The role of sports in tourism has been completely changed today, so sports tourism in recent times represents a specific relationship between the two interdependent phenomena, sport and tourism. In that sense, sport has become a very important content of stay, in which tourists are participants of various sports activities, such as skiing, swimming, sailing, rafting, etc.

The aim of the present research work is to study the bilateral differences in the frequency of pattern types of homologous fingers in left-handed and right-handed individuals of both sexes. The sample comprised 379 healthy people, of Bulgarian ethnicity, aged 17-58 years. In the female group, there were 219 right-handers and 53 left-handers, while in males - 66 right-handers and 41 left-handers. Fingerprints were taken by the typographic method, in a rotating manner. Papillary patterns were classified into four main types. The data were statistically analyzed. The results showed significant bilateral differences in women (lefthanded and right-handed) in the frequency of ulnar loops of the third finger. In men righthanders, there were significant differences in the frequency of circular patterns of the first and fourth fingers. There were not any differences found in the bilateral comparison of the frequencies of pattern types in the left-handed men.
