Ultimate capacity limit of a multi-span link with phase-insensitive amplification 带相位不敏感放大的多跨链路的极限承载能力

The Shannon capacity of a point-to-point link with an optimised configuration of optical amplifiers is compared with general detection strategies permitted by quantum mechanics. Results suggest that the primary application area of receivers based on such strategies may be unamplified short-distance links or free-space optical communication.

Improvement of accuracy for measurement of 100-km fibre latency with Correlation OTDR 利用相关OTDR提高100千米光纤延迟测量精度

We measured the latency of a 100 km fibre link using a Correlation OTDR. Improvements over previous results were achieved by increasing the probe signal rate to 10 Gbit/s, using dispersion compensation gratings, and coupling the receiver time base to an external PPS signal.

A closed-form formula for the nonlinear interference estimation of arbitrary modulation formats in ultra-wideband transmission systems is presented. Enabled by the proposed approach, the formula is applied to the entire S+C+L band (20 THz) and validated by numerical simulations with experimentally measured fibre data.

A flexible semi-filterless architecture for metro DWDM networks with ring- or horseshoe topologies is presented. ROADM nodes are based on wavelength blockers. Coherent transmission enables filterless channel selection. Critical parameters are determined and a 4-span, 160-km horseshoe with 100Gbit/s DP-QPSK and 200Gbit/s DP-16QAM is demonstrated.

We demonstrate 20-times greater tolerance to temperature variation using hollow core fibres compared to SMF-28 in a fast optical switching system. With frequency and once-only phase synchronisation, we obtained error-free transmission of short packets with <625ps clock recovery time in 25.6 Gb/s real-time systems.

We derived a fully-closed-form GN-model formula and tested its accuracy of over 7,000 highly randomized Cband system scenarios. By further applying a correction that leverages the large system test-set, we were able to substantially improve it and obtain EGN-model accuracy with real-time-compatible computation effort.
