Authors describe a method of therapy of hallux valgus not yet published in this country. Its advantage is that as a consequence of the shortening of the proximal phalanx the tension of the soft tissues is decreased and as a final result the movement occurs between the original cartilaginous surfaces.

Reexamination of 19 reconstructive operations for common injuries of the median and ulnar nerves performed during 15 years was carried out. The localization of the injuries, the joined injuries, the method of nerve reconstruction and the treatment of the other injuries are given in details. 13 patients could be reached for the late follow-up, their clinical, EMG and ENG results are described.

Authors have implanted Garamycin sponge in 51 patients, suffering from suppuration of bones and joints. This is a sponge-like collagene material prepared from cattle tendon and containing Gentamycin. Their experiences have shown that this product is especially suitable for the treatment of infected cavities of minor tubular bones, whereas it is less suitable for the treatment of extensive cavities of long tubular bones. Attention is called to the fact, that the product had to be tried on "contraselected" material and they had only 5 exceptional cases in which it could be used as a "first therapeutic measure". Under such conditions the early, 50 per cent good results can be considered as promising. Authors close their paper with the description of 4 cases.

In the operative treatment of the knee diseases Guepar prosthesis was used formerly more frequently, presently however only rarely. The frequence of complications and their treatment are many times serious problems. Authors describe one case in which the postoperative supracondylaer fracture necessitated the insertion of a special knee prosthesis.

Authors review briefly the development of the principles of metatarsal osteotomies and the basic concepts that seem to be the most suitable in the choice of the type and execution of the operation. The effectiveness of the surgical treatment is stressed if the following viewpoints are considered: 1. Synchronous correction of the rays II, III, and IV. 2. Simultaneously achieved abbreviation and forming of the arch. 3. Instead of internal fixation transversal lifting bandage with early weight bearing. The finding, according which, beside the telescope osteotomy of Helal, Wolf's metatarsal osteotomy with axial deviation is also a valuable alternative, is supported by the follow-up of their own 2 years material.

The necessity of fighting against the harms causing static foot diseases has arisen before about 40 years. On the basis of large-scale foot measurements shoes, correctly constructed from the viewpoint of health, for children and workers were produced. We have switched over to metric system of direct character. The modern development of the industrial technology and commercial network is necessary.

Authors report on substitution of severe skin and extensor tendon defect on the back of the hand, developed after a II. grade open septic metacarpal fracture. For the covering of the defect of the soft tissue the paratenon--tendon--skin free flap unit was used, supplied by the a. dorsalis pedis. In one operation the skin in full thickness and the extensor tendons could be substituted at the same time the suppuration was eliminated and the pseudarthroses stabilized with lamellar osteosynthesis.

The long-lasting pains of the wrist cause many times problems in the everyday trauma treatment. They are also frequently encountered by orthopedists, internists and rheumatologists. The pain is most frequently the characteristic symptom of osteoarthritis of the wrist, however it may appear without an accident (as a part of destructive and systemic disease, damaging the joints) too. Based on the paper published by WILHELM in 1966 we have performed in this Institute selective denervation of the wrist in 77 cases, with good results in 45 per cent. Our material is analysed in etiologic groups, giving light to the field of indication of this operation, that can be considered most generally as an alternative solution versus radiocarpal and intercarpal arthrodesis. This paper reports beside the description of the method on our favourable experiences, that are published in hope of a more wide spreading of the method.
