Knowledge brokers serve as facilitators of knowledge sharing. The extant literature calls for nuanced analyses of different organizational structures as the spaces knowledge brokers operate in. Our interest lies in formal, semiformal, and informal organizational network structures and in how knowledge brokers are positioned in them. In this paper, we outline a collaborative analysis method, with researchers from different disciplines working together in data sprints. The benefit of this process is that it enables analyzing large organizational networks with deep insights. Amplifying social network analysis with field knowledge offers a deeper understanding of the connections in the network. This paper describes the analysis process and proposes interdisciplinary data processing techniques. We applied the proposed method using an extensive empirical data set that includes intraorganizational social media interactions between employees in a global organization. Our analysis transforms enterprise social media data into a network model that describes an organization ’s social structure.

While prior research on gig work environments studied necessary technical skills for information systems development (ISD) professionals and how they can be developed, the improvement of non-technical skills (NTS) has been rarely explored. However, to successfully engage in the gig work economy, the need for strong NTS is increasing. Based on an experiential learning theory (ELT) perspective, we explore how ISD professionals engaging in the gig economy develop NTS by following grounded theory methodology. Our results are threefold: first, we identify crucial NTS for gig workers. Second, we uncover how these NTS are developed in different phases of adapting to working on gig economy platforms. Third, we reveal several strategies for thriving in the gig economy. Based on our findings we develop a process model of non-technical skill development and discuss this model in relation to implications for gig economy literature and practice.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the insurance industry and there are many examples in the business press and at industry conferences. However, there is a paucity of detailed conceptual analysis and evaluation of AI technology that places AI in a strategic context and considers how different AI applications fit together and form a coherent picture. In this paper, a detailed case study of BGL group, a leading European insurance firm, is presented. A general business process model of insurance companies is used to structure the analysis. Five AI applications are described using an insurance firm-customer data flow diagram, which illustrates the marketing impact of AI technology and shows the nature of the business value creation process. The results are generalized into an AI customer lifecycle model, which has broad applicability to digital transformation projects. The likely future direction of AI in insurance is outlined and further research opportunities are identified.
