The effectiveness of maintenance care program applied at different period of time was evaluate in patients treated for gingivitis and incipiente marginal periodontitis. Fifty six patients were divided in three groups, each one controlled three times (each 2, 4 and 6 months respectively), to evaluate periodontal health. At each control, gingival index and plaque index was registered and patients had profilaxis and reinforcement of dental care instructions. All patients knew and practiced a control plaque control during active treatment. Results demonstrated that maintenance care program applied each 2 months, could get better clinical healthy periodontal conditions, without influence of patient's control plaque. Those patients with good hygiene could provide for an acceptable level of periodontal health even in patients controlled each 4 and 6 months. Positive correlations between controls in each index are indicative for that. Age seemingly do not have influence like etiological factor of recurrence inflammation. High correlation between plaque index and gingival index was found in every control mainly in the groups controlled each 4 and 6 months.
A revision of one thousand cases of patients with jaws dysharmonies was made, through clinic cards and x-rays study, to evaluate its prevalence, classification according to angle, frequency in sex, age and teething stage. The results shows us that this dysharmonies are more prevalent in women than in men. At eight years old in both sexes we have the biggest percentage of abnormalities of the jaws, in mixed dentition stage. Angle's class I is present in much more patients than class II, and only a few of cases were class III. The most frequent dysharmonies are compression in male and those in anterior-posterior way in female, and the less one are vertical abnormalities in both sexes.
The present article shows a clinical secuence in the treatment of permanente mollars with lesions in its sinclar area. This secuence allows the combination of preventive and restorative to minimize dental damage.
The prosthetic rehabilitation is common of the integral treatment of patients that integral treatment of patients that have lost one or several dental pieces as a consequence of periodontal diseases. It has been demonstrated that plural fixed prothesis to extention, plovide a distribution pattern and magnitude of favourable forces to the periodontal during the different functions of the stomathologic apparatus, that justify rehabilitation based to it patients periodontically affected. The physiological behaviour of cantilever was basically analized on report on different investigation studies performed on patients periodontically diminis hed treated with plural fixed prothesis of crossed are with two unit or bilateral vear cantilever units, dento supported or fixed in place on implants. It is important to emphasize that favourable results previously analized in base to this type of rehabilitation in its different varieties have been obtained through record done on patients in which considerations of indications, design and occlusion stability have been optimized.
The purpose of this study was to establish any statistical significance between weight, length and congenital defects in births occurred before and after fluoridation in Valparaiso-Chile. A review was performed over 4.899 controlled births occurred in the Naval Hospital of Valparaíso during both periods (Before = 1983-84 and after = 1987-88). The results were analysed statistically by mean significance test (alpha = 0.05). In contrary to other studies, no difference were determined between births weight mean and birth length mean, by sexes, before and after fluoridation. No congenital defects (Down's syndrome, intraventricular septal defects and cleft lips) were associated with fluoridated water.
There is a wide variety of literature regarding chlorhexidine, so we have tried to put together the most recent studies in order to apply them to our clinical reality. Chlorhexidine is an excellent alternative which should be considered as the best chemical collaborator available in the market. In order to obtain the best therapeutic effects, chlorhexidine should always be used within a plaque control program administered by a professional. It's the best way to get the best advantages offered by this medicine.
To a conventional silver amalgam alloy was added 1% of stanous fluoride, to prove in vitro, if it presents any antibacteria actions against S. mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus. Thirteen Petri plate were seeded with S. mutans and 12 Petri plate with Lactobacillus, in both cases, was disposited fluoride containing amalgam and conventional amalgam. The average of inhibition signs in the Petri plates with S. mutans was 1.7 mm in the Petri plates with Lactobacillus the average was 2.4 mm. Is demonstrated that the fluoride containing amalgam has in vitro antibacteria action in comparison with conventional amalgam, that has none.
After a long period of research, a lot of elements of high technology have come to dentistry. Intraoral camaras, magnetic resonance imaging devices, digital radiographic equipment, laser, and computer systems that custom, mill and place restorations. The future evolution of all these devices, could be spectacular, considering its numerous possibilities in dental field.
