The authors, after having performed the preparation of a few pure trichlorobiphenyl isomers, proceeded with a preliminary toxicological study of the rat which should then facilitate study for a commerical product. The fixation level of these compounds is considerably higher in lipids and in the spleen than in the other organs. Urinary elimination is very low compared with faecal excretion; furthermore, chromatographic analysis makes it possible to shed light on phenolic products of transformation in the excreta, some of which it was possible to identify with hydroxylated trichlorobiphenyls synthesized in the laboratory.

A large variety of food containing lead, food is for us an important source of contamination. The average quantity of lead contained in food and tobacco has been established yet. Thanks to these results, we known the exact quantity absorbed by men in normal conditions of living. We are working to establish its dosage with atomic absorption spectrophotometry.

This is a study on the irritant capacity of two isocyanates (T. D. I. Toluene diisocyanate and M. D. I. diphenyl methane diisocyanate). The experiment was carried out on the hide and ocular mucous membrane of albino rabbits, using Draize method as well as the method for appraising cosmetics. An histopathological examination of the evolution of the lesions was then achieved together with a study on the delayed allergenic capacity. This study was carried out on albino guinea-pig hides using Kligman and Magnusson technique. In these experimental conditions, the conclusions were the following:--on rabbit hide, T. D. I. is a medium irritant, more caustic than M. D. I.,--on ocular mucous membrane, M. D. I. is a mild irritant; T. D. I. a strong one,--on guinea-pig hide, T. D. I. and M. D. I. may induce cutaneous sensitivity similar to contact allergy. Their allergenic capacity is long lasting but varies according to the allergen concentration.

The authors effected the synthesis of delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta9-THC) by first preparing the raw materials: olivetol and p-menthadiene-2.8 ol-1. Then these two reactants were put into contact in the presence of p-toluene sulphonic acid to give the isomer delta8-THC which was converted into the isomer delta9-THC.

The authors report on a case of lethal lactate acidosis during acute metformine and barbiturate poisoning. The study of energetic substrates and glucoregulation hormones demonstrated a blockade of hepatic gluconeogenesis.

In this study, two fluorocarbons (FC): difluorodichloromethane (FC 12) and monofluorodichlormethane (FC 11) are mainly concerned. These products are extensively used and we attempt to demonstrate their absence of acute, subacute and chronic toxicity as well as teratogenic action. After inhalation, the FC rapidly diffuse into the blood, cerebrospinal fluid and all the "milieu interieur" where a balanced condition is quickly established. Only a few reactions, all reversible, concerning respiration circulation, nervous system and metabolisms are observed when the concentrations in the air is greater than 20% for FC 12 and greater 5% for FC 11. The eliminations of these gase from the body is completed 20-50 mn after fresh air is reinhaled. The problem of the "sudden sniffing Death" is finally taken into consideration. They probably are due to the stopping of the heart by ventricular fibrillation, a consequence of a direct and proper action of the FC on the heart or a sensibilisation of the heart to adrenaline. However this sensibilisation necessitates the presence of more than 40 microgram of FC per ml of blood, concentration never obtained in the most intensive use of aerosols.

We present the results of an inquiry about the hydrargyric risk run by the staff of an odonto-stomatological laboratory. A second laboratory in which mercury was not used, served as a control. It would appear that the staff in the laboratory where the practician uses amalgam have a level of mercury higher than that of the staff working in the control laboratory. This level reaches the maximum in the middle of the day and returns to the same level as that of the controls after the nights rest outside the polluted atmosphere. These results are discussed in the light of our findings and of facts obtained from literature.

Here is a comparative study of the impairments observed on the histological structure of the excretory and hematopoietic organs of carps after acute intoxication (by formol and ammonia) and chronic intoxication (by copper sulfate and lead nitrate). Although all these toxic substances induce the same type of impairments, their degree of seriousness vary. The most affected organs are the gills which present with congestive reactions and partial destruction of respiratory lamellae, and the spleen whose red pulp is usually destroyed. On the other hand, the proliferation of a parasitic fungus was observed on all intoxicated carps. This was understood as a weakening of their body's natural defenses.
