The historical development of the staging of bladder tumors: personal reminiscences. 膀胱肿瘤分期的历史发展:个人回忆。

Since 1943 we have attempted to stage infiltrating tumors of the bladder. This original grouping required minor revisions as time went on in order to furnish information of prognostic value. The original classification of tumors into A, B1, B2, and C, widely used in the United States and abroad, was improved by Marshall's addition fo O and D, and especially by its conversion into the Tumor Nodes and Metastasis (TNM) System. This latter now appears to be standard for the western World. It is disappointing that the surgical results are not better for the superficial group, even after external radiotherapy. Most probably a markedly improved success rate will depend on new anticancer agents.

Management of prostatic fistulas. 前列腺瘘的处理。

Prostatic fistulas communicating with the rectum or perineal skin are unusual complications of a prostatic operation, pelvic trauma, prostatic abscess or other iatrogenic injury. A third of these fistulas may close spontaneously with proper urinary drainage and avoidance of fecal soilage. The many operative procedures described for the repair of these fistulas indicate that no ideal method of repair can be applied to every case. Operative management should be mandated by the size, location and duration of the fistula as well as by the surgeon's experience with the various anatomic approaches.
