Several instruments to carry and put the silver amalgam into de apical foramen for it's posterior condensation without spreading this material over the periodontal tissues, bone and adyacent mucosa, has been designed along the years. This article describes an easier and cheaper way to make an endodontic amalgam carrier by the adaptation between en 18 and 22 mm intravenous catheters into disposable syringes by the use of autopolymerizable acrilic, given the dentist the option of making a very easy instrument, at a low cost which can be used as a commercial endodontic amalgam carrier as well.

The object of this study was to determine how many of the patients treated at the Pediatric Odontology Clinic, a branch of the Maxillo-Facial Surgery Service at the Veinte de Noviembre Regional Hospital, ISSSTE, are VIH-positive of show serious manifestations of Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). For such purpose, 100 pediatric patients suffering from different systemic or local diseases were evaluated, the most common being hematological alterations. Results evidenced the presence of VIH in the blood of five of the pediatric subjects, all suffering from Hemophilia.

Because of its high prevalence, dental caries represents an important health problem. Risk factors involved in the development of cavities may be classified as biological, mechanical and cultural. In the latter, it is important to highlight the transmittal of hygiene and dietary habits within the family. A crosscut study was undertaken over 46 families chosen at random from Tlalpan, a suburban area in Mexico City. Education-linked aspects as they relate to buccal and dental health in the adult are stressed, since situations of parents seem to be reproduced in their children, with consequently positive or negative health results.

The present study is an evaluation of tissue response to mechanical perforation in furcation, using amalgam, cavit and tricalcium phosphate to seal those perforations. Three young adult dogs were used to perform experimental perforations in furcation. Results were evaluated clinically, histologically and radiologically after 30, 60 and 90 days.

A wide variety of restoration materials for prosthetic odontology is now available to the dental surgeon, either of the covalent type (acrylic resins), metallic (alloys), ionic (porcelains), or a combination of them, as in the so-called composites, such as the composite resins, or as ceramics-metals mixtures. An example of the latter is a product called Miracle-Mix, a glass ionomere cement reinforced with an amalgam alloy. In those cases where the blend is done by a synterization process, the material is called Cermet. The above-listed alternatives clearly evidence day-to-day advances in odontology, with researchers and manufacturers engaged the world over in improving existing products or developing new ones to enrich the dentist's armamentarium. As a side effect of this constant renewal, those dentists who have failed to update their knowledge fall behind in their practice as they persist in using products they have known for years, and may be deceived by advertisements of too-often unreliable products. It is, therefore, important to be aware of available products and their latest improvements.
