Radicchio cultivation under different sprinkler irrigation systems. 不同喷灌系统下菊苣栽培。

Gun sprinklers were commonly used in Italy to irrigate Radicchio. Although this high-pressure irrigation system allows large areas to be irrigated in a short time, it has some major disadvantages. Disadvantages include the impact of the drops on the soil and crop can be very strong, the high volume of water used tends to increase water use and runoff and water distribution uniformity is low. A 3-year experiment was conducted in North-East Italy in order to evaluate the possibility of using a mini-sprinkler irrigation system with low-volume application rates. The use of mini-sprinkler resulted in a higher distribution uniformity, higher Christiansen uniformity coefficient and a higher water use efficiency. Energy cost was also lower when the mini-sprinkler system was used for irrigation as compared to the irrigation gun system. Radicchio head weight and marketable yield were higher when plants were irrigated with the mini-sprinkler as compared to those irrigated with the irrigation gun. Therefore, the use of mini-sprinklers resulted in not only a reduction in water use and energy cost but also an increase in radicchio production. 346 Lucia Bortolini et al.

Examination Malpractices among Secondary Schools Students in Ondo State, Nigeria: Perceived Causes and Possible Solutions 尼日利亚翁多州中学生考试舞弊:原因和可能的解决办法

This paper investigated teachers’ perception of examination malpractices among secondary school students in Ondo State, Nigeria. As a descriptive research, the study population comprised the 481 secondary schools in Ondo State, Nigeria. This was made up of 281 public and 200 private schools as well as 210 urban and 272 rural schools. The sample consisted of 245 schools made up of 142 public and 103 private schools. Out of the 142 public schools, 62 were urban while 80 were rural schools. Out of the 103 private schools, 47 were urban while 56 were rural schools. Out of the 4250 teachers in the schools, 960 teachers were selected. The methods of selection were also by multi-stage and stratified random sampling techniques. The instrument used to collect data was a questionnaire while the data collected were analyzed using percentages, Person r product moment correlation and the t-test. The findings revealed that one major cause of examination malpractices in the schools was indiscipline among students that made many of them to be involved in examination malpractices. Other important causes include the non-implementation of the examination malpractices decree and the lack of effective supervision of students during examinations. It was recommended that concerted efforts should be made at improving the level of discipline among students through counseling services in the schools. There should be the full implementation of the examination malpractices decree. There should be increased efforts at effective supervision of students during examinations. The termination of appointment of examination officials and teachers involved in perpetrating examination malpractices should be in force to serve as a deterrent to others.   Key words: Examination, malpractices, schools, perceived, causes, solutions.

EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SODIUM CHLORIDE ON YIELD AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION IN TWO BARLEY CULTIVARS 不同水平氯化钠对两种大麦品种产量和化学成分的影响

Salinity of agricultural lands and irrigation water is the most limiting factor for plant growth in many dry parts of the wo rld. Twenty five million ha of agricultural lands are saline in Iran, and this is increasing du e to poor irrigation management. Particularly in irrigated agricultural areas, has b een found to reduce barley yields, dramatically. To investigate the effects of sodium chloride on two barley cultivars, four levels of salinity: 0, 4, 8 and 12 dS/m, were emplo yed as a factorial experiment arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replicat ions in a controlled environment of the greenhouse during 2007-2008. The results indicated that increasing salinity from 0 to 12 dS/m, decreased the emergence percentage, significa ntly. The two cultivars (Afzal & Reyhan) responded differently to salinity, so that Afzal showed a significantly higher emergence rate. This cultivar (Afzal) also had grea ter shoot potassium content. The number of tillers and leaves per plant and also the plant height were decreased upon increasing salinity level. The shoot sodium content was also i ncreased by increasing the salinity level in both cultivars, however, the sodium content of Afza l cultivar, compared to Reyhan cultivar, was lower, probably due to Na + exclusion mechanisms in this cultivar. The results also revealed that the highest grain number and phytomas s was obtained from Afzal cultivar at the lowest salinity level. Phytomass and grain yiel d were also decreased upon salinity, significantly. Overall, it appeared that less adver se effect of salinity on Afzal cultivar may indicate that this cultivar it might be suitable for saline soils, an object which worth more investigations.
