[Ectopic eruption of the maxillary first permanent molar]. [上颌第一恒磨牙的异位外露]。

Ectopic eruption of the first maxillary molars shows a prevalence of 2 to 6% and is classified in two different types: I) "Jumping type" or "reversible ectopic eruption" II) "holding type" or "irreversible ectopic eruption". Different local as well as hereditary factors have been considered as responsible for the ectopic eruption. "Right on time" diagnosis and treatment subsequently, make the latter efficient and mainly easier for both the patient and the treating dentist.

This report presents the orthodontic application of the rectangular Niti wires, especially during the early stages of alignment and leveling. [Early orthodontic treatment]. 【早期正畸治疗】。

Early orthodontic treatment has recently become a subject of great interest among orthodontists since it is the result of the closest approach between the American and the European orthodontic trends. The early orthodontic treatment emerged from the better knowledge and deeper study of the philosophy of the functional, orthopedic and removable appliances as well as from the verification of their effectiveness, especially during childhood. An analysis of the term "Early orthodontic treatment" is being done in this study in contrast to the term "Early orthodontic management". Timing of orthodontic management of dentofacial deformities is quoted. The main points of a successful early orthodontic treatment as well as advantages and disadvantages, positive and negative criteria of it are mentioned.

[A study of mechanical properties of orthodontic wires in tension]. 正畸金属丝张力力学性能的研究

Orthodontic forces are applied to the teeth basically by means of different types of orthodontic wires. Knowledge of the mechanical properties of such wires are very helpful to the clinician in design and application of optimal force systems during orthodontic treatment. The basic mechanical properties were studied for 17 types of orthodontic wires (all rectangular and of the same size), in tension. Modulus of elasticity (E), yield strength (YS) and maximum elastic strain (Springback) (YS/E) were calculated for each type of wires. Stainless steel wires have demonstrated higher modulus of elasticity (and yield strength) in comparison with wires of nickel-titanium and beta titanium alloys. B-titanium wires showed higher modulus of elasticity than nickel-titanium ones. In addition stainless steel wires were found to have higher values for springback than cobalt-chromium ones and lower values (for the same variable) than nickel-titanium and B-titanium wires.

[Craniofacial morphology of the complete unilateral cleft lip and palate between the ages of 8-12]. [8-12岁完全性单侧唇腭裂的颅面形态分析]。

108 cephalograms of complete unilateral cleft lip and palate patients, divided into two groups according to ages, had been compared to 71 normal controls. The study demonstrated that there are basic differences in facial morphology between the groups. The cleft sample has a retrognathic facial configuration with significantly different skeletal sagittal and vertical trend compared to the normal. There are also compensatory dental disorders.

[Study on the cephalographic X-rays on the changes of the soft tissues of the face of growing patients after orthodontic treatment with functional appliances]. [功能性矫治器正畸治疗成长期患者面部软组织变化的头颅x线研究]。

In this research we have examined cephalographic x rays concerning patients between 8 to 14 years to age (47 patients class II/1 according to Angle, 7 class II/2 and 17 class III) before treatment and two years later. The patients were still in the age of growth. In the 1st cephalographic x ray has also been made provisional of growth using the Ricketts method. In the three designs we have made measurements to examine the change of the soft tissues of the face especially the nose, owing to the treatment alone, excluding growth. Simultaneously to the two cephalographic x rays hand x rays have been taken to examine whether there was some special effect in the soft tissues during the different stages of growth. Considering now what we found out during this study, we come to the following results. 1) The angle SNSn (1) is effected by the treatment of the functional appliance type Bionator in the classes II/1 and II/2 and the angle of the nose (3) in class II/2 of the patients. 2) The distance A-A' is increased with the treatment in all malocclusions and its increase is statistically important in all the examined stages of growth. 3) The thickness of the upper lip is increased with the treatment in the II/1 malocclusions. The increase of this thickness is statistically important in the stages PP2 and MP3 of the skeletal growth. 4) The thickness of the lower lip increases with the III class treatment. 5) The thickness of the soft tissues round the chin increases with the treatment to patients in class II/1. This increase is statistically important in the stages S and MP3 cap of the skeletal growth.

During the Renaissance (14th-16th cent.) many significant progresses were noticed in the field of Anatomics. This was a result of the fact that many Greek intellectuals had been forced to immigrate to N. Italy because of the conquest of Constantinople and the dissolution of the Byzantine Empire. On the other hand, the dissection of human bodies had been allowed. During this flourishing the first among the most famous dessectors of that time was Andrea Vesalius succeeded by Bartholomeo Eustachio, professor of Anatomics at the famous, that time, university of Sapienza (N. Italy). Eustachio is the first scientist who was systematically dealt with the biology of Dental System, having the work under the title "Libellus de Dentibus" published at Venice in 1563. By this work, Eustachio gives the most precise description of the Dental System, his development as well as of the dental abnormalities. In more specific words, he brought to light in any detail and for the first time, the phenomena characterizing the development of this system, described in details the morphology of each tooth (deciduous and permanent), the formation in the uterus of the dental germs, as well as the non synchronized fact of their development. He, furthermore, distinguished (classified) the Dento-facial abnormalities into abnormalities of the teeth, of the alveolar and of the maxillae. Eustachio born at San Severino of Angona, died in 1574 but most of his works were published after his death as most important.

[Techniques of surgical exposure of unerupted maxillary anterior teeth for orthodontic management]. [上颌前牙未出牙的手术暴露技术]。

The problem of impaction of the maxillary anterior teeth can be solved under cooperation of the oral and maxillofacial surgeon and the orthodontist. In that way unerupted teeth which in the past were scheduled to be extracted, nowadays can be saved and take their place in the dental arch. There are various surgical techniques of exposure of unerupted anterior maxillary teeth, for orthodontic management. Decision of the most suitable for each individual case can be taken after careful analysis of the diagnostic data from the surgeon and the orthodontist taking under consideration the location of the unerupted tooth, the periodontal status and the patients' cooperation. In this paper reference is being made in different techniques of surgical exposure for orthodontic traction with regard to the maintaining of a good tooth-gingiva relationship. Same clinical cases are also presented.

[Enamel wear from ceramic and stainless steel orthodontic brackets]. [陶瓷和不锈钢正畸托架的牙釉质磨损]。

The purpose of this investigation was to examine the potential enamel wear upon contact with ceramic and stainless steel orthodontic brackets of the same company into an artificial mouth, which is a simulated oral environment. Two groups of ten lower premolars were bonded with ceramic and stainless steel brackets. The same number of upper premolars were used and each upper premolar was brought in contact with the opposing bracket and subjected to a lateral type of movement, like a mastication movement, by the artificial mouth. A constant load of approximately two pounds was used for the masticatory force, the rate of chewing was one cycle per second and the teeth were subjected to 2.5 and 10 masticatory cycles. The before and after occlusal surfaces of the upper premolars were compared using a computerized profiling system and the enamel volume loss was calculated. Qualitative changes, such as rate of enamel wear, were examined visually using SEM and computer graphics. Abrasion scores (mean +/- SD) in mm3 were 0.0142 +/- 0.020 for the metal and 0.2433 +/- 0.150 for the ceramic brackets and were significantly different at p less than 0.05. Ceramic brackets caused significantly greater enamel abrasion than stainless steel brackets.
