The prevalence of enamel decalcification and caries beneath orthodontic bands, has indicated the need for a new enamel binding adhesive orthodontic cement. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity, in vitro, on Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus, acidophillus, of three materials used to cements the orthodontic bands. The cements studied were: Zinc phosphate cement, Glass-ionomer cement, and Policarboxylate cement. Thirty petri plates were seeded with S. mutans, and thirty with L. acidophillus; on each plate three pellet were placed, one of each cement studied. Petri plates were incubated under microaerophilic conditions at 37 C, and checked at 72 hrs. for Streptococcus, mutans, and four days for Lactobacillus acidophillus to evaluate the inhibition zone. The results were tabulated for each material. It was demonstrated that exists important variations in the antimicrobial properties of the materials studied, as in the microbial sensitivity to these cements.

The response to the treatment and periodontal maintenance during a period of 24 month, was investigated in 17 patients with periodontal disease by comparing root debridement alone versus root debridement plus surgery, in the molar flat surfaces sites. A total of 443 sites were controlled every 3 month and recorded every 6 month in regard to plaque indice bleeding frequency, probing pocket depth and changes of probing attachment level. The results analysed using linear regression, demonstrated that in sites with initial probing depth 0-3 mm or 4-6 mm. at 24 th months there was an evident improvement in the clinical conditions of the periodontal tissues, independent in the treatment modality. Sites with initial probing depth of 7 or more mm., however, showed a different result. In this sites, the plaque indice and the probing pocket depth were considerable reduced, but the frequency of bleeding and the clinical attachment level showed a negative result, in those sites treated by root debridement alone compared with root debridement plus surgery.

1. Seven cases of pulpal lesions due to accidental trauma in young individuals anterior permanent teeth are studied clinically and histologically. 2. Etiopathogenic concepts of the specific lesions under study are synthesized. 3. Characteristics of the material and utilized methods are established. 4. By means of a detailed description of the cases, the histopathological and clinical qualities are coordinated, formulating commentaries. 5. Synoptic charts of the results obtained are included and the total analysis of all the material studied is completed with a general clinical-histopathological commentary.

We reviewed the normal sialographic image of the parotid gland directed to the sialographic interpretation for the diagnosis of its neoplasms. Through different examples is presented the normal image with accessories lobules and is presented the ductal morphology because these aspects are important signs for the diagnosis of salivary gland neoplasms. Also is stressed the importance of the emptying because is a good indicator for the ubication of the tumor.

We studied the effect of nonsteroid antiinflammatory (Indomethacin, R), in the palate fusion of rat embryos from different strains with variable susceptibility and also the influence of glucocorticoids. Indomethacin inhibits the fusion of the palate process with variable rate depending of the rat strain. In reciprocal inbred we observed that the effect is greater in embryo from susceptible females than from resistant females. This demonstrates that there are a maternal influence in the induction of cleft palate due to Indomethacin.

Among the systemic hemorrhagic we find Von Willebrand's, the most prevalent coagulation related illness. It may be defined as a qualitative platelet abnormality which in most cases is transmitted as a dominant mendelian trait. Clinically there is prolonged bleeding time, epistaxis, gingival hemorrhage and increased bleeding after surgery or dental extractions. The purpose of this project was to test the effectivity of a local element such as GRF glue as the only treatment for these patients. With the purpose to avoid the use of a substitute therapy, mainly taking into consideration all the problems derived from the AIDS virus. It was concluded that GRF glue was an excellent local treatment for Von Willebrand's carries with factor VIII over 10%. Systemic therapy must be instituted in patients under the 10% circulating factor VIII.

Due to the difficulties in finding a reliable cephalometric method to determine the true intermaxillary sagital relationship, the usefulness of the Freeman (AXB) and the Beatty (AXD) cephalometric methods are studied and, furthermore, which of them best demonstrate said sagital relationship. To perform this a comparative analysis of cephalometric methods AXB and AXD with the clinical cephalometric diagnosis were carried out using a sample of 33 individuals of both genders, between the ages 18 and 26 years, without orthodontic treatment, complete dentition and not taking into consideration third molars. The frequency distributions of class I, II and III were obtained through values given by methods AXD and AXB. The cephalometric clinical diagnosis was performed by 2 experienced observers thus obtaining absolute coincidence in their observations. The validity of methods AXD and AXB were measured in concordant percentages taking the cephalometric clinical diagnosis as the basis for comparison. Therefore, the most valid one is the cephalometric method with the highest percentage in concordance with the cephalometric clinical diagnosis. It was found that the frequency distribution of classes I, II and III are similar coincident with the one given by the cephalometric clinical diagnosis. The most valid method was the AXB bearing with the cephalometric clinical diagnosis a 90.91% concordance. The AXD method gave with the cephalometric clinical diagnosis a 75.76% concordance, which in relation with AXB, is a slightly lower percentage; however, demonstrating validity.
