Flow of gases in porous media 多孔介质中气体的流动

It is shown that of the three possible types of flow, i e. laminar, turbulent, and molecular, the flow of gases through a gas chromatography column is laminar. This does not rule out the existence of eddies, but the positions of the latter are fixed with respect to the porous medium, in contrast to the conditions which prevail in turbulent flow. This is followed by an account of the theory of flow of an ideal gas through an empty tube (Poiseuille's law) and through a tube filled with a porous medium (Darcy's law); of the theories intended for the calculation of the permeability of unconsolidated porous media, such as those used in gas chromatography; of the deviations from Darcy's law observed at high flow rates; and finally the theory of the viscosity of gases. The methods of calculating the principal quantities used in this field are described, and tables of viscosity and permeability values are given. The application of current theories of flow rate to problems arising from temperature and flow rate programming is discussed.

Mapping plant lipids by paper chromatography 纸色谱法测定植物脂质

Two-dimensional paper chromatography has been adapted to the study of fat-soluble materials, which are thereby displayed mapwise on one sheet. The procedure, applied to a variety of plant tissues, has led to the discovery of reducing substances, pigments (including a new chlorophyll), fluorescing substances, quinones and unidentified phyllolipids; has helped in the differentiation of viruses; has uncovered a new enzyme or a new activity of an old one; has amplified knowledge on 20 substances that accompany chlorophyll and that may form part of the photosynthesizing apparatus; has aided the study of carotenoids from flowers, and indicated how mapping may be used in studying the origin of hybrids; has shown that mono-esters of carotenoids occur naturally, and given a hint that they may be common; and has played a major part in investigating the distribution, fluctuation and biochemical role of tocopherols in plants.
