A triple stomach in a 22 year old patient was evaluated by CT. In addition to the main stomach two cystic formations containing gastric mucosa were found. These accessory stomachs did not fill following ingestion of oral contrast medium. In the CT diagnosis of cystic masses of the upper abdomen multiple gastric formations should be considered.

The author examined 160 patients by means of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) after reconstructive vascular surgery. The checkup aimed to controlling the functional capacity of arterial and venous bypasses, of thrombal endarterectomy (TEA) and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). The image quality of the examinations was good or very good in 138 cases and satisfactory in 19 cases in respect of the questions to be solved. In 3 cases, no information of diagnostic value was obtained. Vascular wall irregularities, stenoses, occlusions, dissections and aneurysms could be assessed with satisfactory display of anatomic details. Evidently DSA yielded a higher percentage of better results in the assessment of reconstructive vascular surgery than was obtained by pretherapeutic diagnosis in the region of the vessels, head, trunk and body periphery.

The authors present a typical case of a meningioma of the foramen magnum. Because of the unspecific nature of the patient's symptoms, the present illness had a course of more than seven years. During the last two years of the illness, the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis was assumed. The final diagnosis was established by computed tomography followed by vertebral angiography. The tumor removal was followed by dramatic recovery of the patient. The value of axial and direct coronal computed tomography is emphasized.

First description of a CT cerebral finding in an adult who had suffered cardiac arrest 14 days prior to CT and had been reanimated. Parts of the cerebral cortex, the thalamus and the brain stem ganglia appear moderately hyperdense; after injection of contrast medium there was a marked enhancement in these regions of the brain. The possible neuropathological correlate of this CT finding is discussed on the basis of relevant literature.

Three methods complementing each other are available for the preoperative intraocular localisation of foreign bodies. Basing on the results obtained, it is recommended, first of all, to localise the site of the foreign body by means of conventional x-ray film, followed by fine diagnosis via ultrasound and, finally, in problematic or doubtful cases, by means of computed tomography.

25 patients in whom a carcinoma of the urinary bladder had been confirmed, were examined preoperatively by means of computerised tomography, and the local size of the tumour was determined. These findings were compared postoperatively with the histopathological staging. The degree of tumour spread was verified exclusively via cystectomy. CT does not yield very relevant data in respect of the therapeutically important differentiation of the low tumour stages. However, CT is very well suited in the diagnosis of tumours which have penetrated the bladder wall; however, diagnostic relevance in respect of organ infiltration can be definitely limited by the overlapping of other organs.

The morphologic aspect of abdominal tuberculosis are evaluated by C.T. The necrotising tuberculosis of the genitourinary tract presents course cystic lesions of fluid density. Similar morphologic criteria are seen in ileocecal tuberculosis. The peritoneal tuberculosis is characterized by large soft tissue masses of a high density which can be found in nearly all areas of the abdomen. The increased morbidity of tuberculosis in people from foreign countries living in the Federal Republic of Germany is pointed out.

The article reports on the methodology and results of serial CT in differential diagnosis of intrasellar and parasellar structures, based on 32 examinations. Whereas the normal pituitary gland displays an approximately equal contrast medium performance as the pituitary adenomas and recurrent tumours, different types of tissue such as those of tumours, vascular structures and postoperative scans can be well differentiated from each other by means of serial CT. Aneurysms can be safely differentiated from intracranial tumours, such as meningiomas, only via serial CT.

Within a mass screening program 1016 patients were investigated by transrectal ultrasound. There is generally good correlation of palpation and ultrasound diagnostic. However, prostate carcinoma was less frequently suspected by ultrasound, 2 prostate carcinomas and 1 bladder carcinoma were detected, one prostate carcinoma was missed. The value of the method is discussed.
