essence of the modified variation of AIS scheme made suitable for data processing, for the application of which the so called "AIS vocabulary" is necessary. In their Department the severity of injury of all patients has been assessed in a routine way, on the basis of scoring systems since 01.07.1987. Their experience obtained in the field of scoring poly- and multi-traumatized patients is reported. In their opinion knowing and applying scoring systems give valuable information not only from the point of view of the practice of casualty attendance and prognosis to be predicted but for objective financial assessment too.

After the spontaneous epithelialisation of the defects of soft parts so called unstable scars remain which, because of ulceration, are sources of infection, endangering both soft parts and bones. Substitution with soft tissues of adequate blood supply enables the complete sanation of the septic foci and by this the rapid healing of the patient with full function. Beside this a better cosmetic result can be achieved. In septic environment, if possible, local muscle flaps and free flaps are used, depending on the extent and localization of the defect. Experiences, gained in these operations are described.

Good fixation, ability for full weight-bearing in most of the cases, closed surgical technique-these are the advantages of lately developed intramedular osteosynthesis for instabil pertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures, called gamma nailing. These advantages do make the general and local complications less and do help the fast rehabilitation. Authors give report on 28 patients, were operated on with gamma nailing within the last 1.5 year. Local complication, infection, loosening, breakage, pseudoarthrosis was not observed. The healing was complete in all evaluated cases. 2/3 of the patients had full weight-bearing following surgery. According to the authors the results are very good in the cases of instabil subtrochanteric and pertrochanteric fractures, therefore the method is highly recommended in similar cases.

Three cases of localized, benign heterotopic ossification, occurred in the hip joint region, are presented. The aspects of the pathogenesis, differential diagnosis and prognosis are briefly discussed.

Authors review the possibilities of the treatment of degenerative damage of the knee. Their new method of operation is described, used in cases of severe cartilage damage of the superficial articular surface of the patella and of the weight bearing surface of the knee. In the available literature one similar method was found, described by Japanese authors in 1993. Authors gain since 1992 from the non weight bearing articular surface of the femur cartilagineous-osreous cylinders for the supply of the defects of the weight bearing surface and the cartilagineous defects of the patella. By this a gliding surface, better than gained with the former method can be created. The method described after an early follow up of their first 14 operations.

Authors analyse the incidence, demographic relations and data of hospitalization of the home accidents. The significance of the home accidents is emphasized. It is stated that the home accident is the most frequent type of accidents and its ratio is increasing. The incidence was found 45 on 1000 inhabitants, the home accidents give nearly the half of all accidents and more than 1/3 of the hospitalized injured. Attention is called to the possibilities of unutilized possibilities of the prevention of home accidents.

This study outlines the special connection between hip endoprosthesis implantation and the dangers of surgical infections. It surveys in detail the theoretical and practical aspects of perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis. On the basis of 85 cement hip prosthesis the author summarize the characteristics of the second generation Cephalosporins and give an account of their favourable results achieved by the use of Zinacef injection.

A case is introduced with osteogenesis imperfecta, suffered from left femoral fracture and a consecutive hypertrophic callus formation, with extreme swelling on the thigh. Concerning the laboratory tests the only significant difference was the elevation in alkaline phosphatase activity and a moderate elevation in ESR. The case is reported because of it's accidental appearance.

During 6 years (1980-1985) 1876 patients with fractures of the distal end of the radius were treated in the County Hospital-Polyclinic Unit "Kaposi Mór". In this paper 302 cases, reduced and pinned with K-wire are discussed. 247 could be controlled 5-10 years after the injury. On the basis of the results in unstable fractures of the distal radial end, susceptibles for redislocation closed pinning with K-wire, following correct reduction is suggested.

Authors describe the results of the application of the "Pain drawing test" patients examined and operated for degenerative lumbal spinal stenosis. Attention is called to the special view-points of the assessment. This method is judged useful both in preoperative and postoperative examinations as a supplementary diagnostic procedure.
