Evaluating Digital Verification Images by Radiation Therapists and Radiation Oncologists. Do We Still Agree? 评估放射治疗师和放射肿瘤学家的数字验证图像。我们还意见一致吗?

In radiation therapy, verification images are taken to ensure correct field and patient positioning. A previous study examining the concordance between radiation therapists (RTs) and radiation oncologists (ROs) when evaluating hard copy verification films found excellent agreement. There was very little in the published literature about how this information could be transferred to digital imaging field verification. This study was undertaken to address this gap and also to confirm that the process of digital imaging would maintain a high level of agreement for quality assurance.

In practice, at the Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre, images are stored in Multi-Access®, as well as the evaluation and any subjective comments regarding these images.

A database of 14,721 images was acquired from a wide variety of disease sites and analyzed. A total of 5,174 true image pairs were evaluated for concordance between the ROs and RTs and overall, there was a 90 percent agreement.

Rates of agreement are high; however, a true gold standard for image verification has yet to be established. With the evolution to image guided radiotherapy, transferring the responsibility of image approval to RTs would certainly be beneficial, however it will be up to individual centres to establish their own policies surrounding treatment field verification.

Writing scientific manuscripts can be unnecessarily daunting, if not paralyzing. This paralysis is usually the result of one of two reasons: either researchers do not know how to start, or they do not know what to put where. However, most radiology manuscripts follow a definable blueprint. In this article, I attempt to lay out the paragraph-by-paragraph development of a typical radiology paper.

Conclusion

If authors can accomplish the writing of the 18 paragraphs of text described in this article, they will produce a manuscript that is properly organized, correct in its essentials, and ready for the finishing hand of a seasoned writer and mentor.

Salvage Cryoablation of the Prostate for Patients with Radiation Failure: An Overview 放疗失败患者的补救性前列腺冷冻消融:综述

The rationale for salvage cryoablation of the prostate for patients with recurrent prostate cancer following radiation therapy failure is reviewed. The history and recent developments of cryosurgery are discussed, along with mechanisms of action. The current prostate cryoablation technique is outlined, in conjunction with patient selection criteria, inherent challenges, and advantages to this procedure compared with other salvage procedures. Recent modifications in the cryoablation technique make it an acceptable treatment option for those patients in whom radiation therapy has failed. Evidence from prospective randomized clinical trials is still needed.
