We analyse the charged${text -}$particle multiplicity distributions measured by the ALICE experiment, over a wide pseudorapidity range, for $pp$ collisions at $sqrt{s}$=8,,7,and, 2.76~TeV at the LHC.~The analysis offers an understanding of particle production in high energy collisions in the purview of a new distribution, the shifted Gompertz distribution.~Data are compared with the distribution and moments of the distributions are calculated.~A modified version of the distribution is also proposed and used to improve the description of the data consisting of two different event classes; the inelastic and the non${text -}$single${text -}$diffractive and their subsets in different windows of pseudorapidity, $eta$.~The distribution used to analyse the data has a wide range of applicability to processes in different fields and complements the analysis done by the ALICE collaboration in terms of various LHC event generators and IP-Glasma calculations.

The neutron lifetime has been measured by comparing the decay rate with the reaction rate of $^3$He nuclei of a pulsed neutron beam from the spallation neutron source at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC). The decay rate and the reaction rate were determined by simultaneously detecting electrons from the neutron decay and protons from the $^3$He(n,p)$^3$H reaction using a gas chamber of which working gas contains diluted $^3$He. The measured neutron lifetime was $898,pm,10,_{rm stat},^{+15}_{-18},_{rm sys},$s.

Searching for diboson resonances in the boosted all-hadronic final state at s = 13 TeV with CMS 用CMS寻找s = 13 TeV时增强全强子终态中的二色子共振

This article summarises three searches for diboson resonances in the all-hadronic final state using data collected at a center-of-mass energy of $sqrt{rm{s}}=13$ TeV with the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The boson decay products are contained in one large-radius jet, resulting in dijet final states which are resolved using jet substructure techniques. The analyses presented use 2.3, 35.9 and 77.3 inverse femtobarns of data collected between 2015 and 2017. These include the first search for diboson resonances using data collected at a 13 TeV collision energy, the introduction of a new algorithm to tag vector bosons in the context of analyzing the data collected in 2016, and the development of a novel multidimensional fit improving on the sensitivity of the previous search method with up to $30%$. The results presented here are the most sensitive to date of diboson resonance searches in the dijet final state. An emphasis on improvements in technique for vector boson tagging is made.

We report on new measurements of inclusive J/$psi$ polarization at mid-rapidity in p+p collisions at $sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The polarization parameters, $lambda_theta$, $lambda_phi$, and $lambda_{thetaphi}$, are measured as a function of transverse momentum ($p_T$) in both the Helicity and Collins-Soper (CS) reference frames within $p_T< 10$ GeV/$C$. Except for $lambda_theta$ in the CS frame at the highest measured $p_T$, all three polarization parameters are consistent with 0 in both reference frames without any strong $p_T$ dependence. Several model calculations are compared with data, and the one using the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory coupled with non-relativistic QCD gives the best overall description of the experimental results, even though other models cannot be ruled out due to experimental uncertainties.

We present a detailed report on sterile neutrino oscillation and U-235 antineutrino energy spectrum measurement results from the PROSPECT experiment at the highly enriched High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In 96 calendar days of data taken at an average baseline distance of 7.9 m from the center of the 85 MW HFIR core, the PROSPECT detector has observed more than 50,000 interactions of antineutrinos produced in beta decays of U-235 fission products. New limits on the oscillation of antineutrinos to light sterile neutrinos have been set by comparing the detected energy spectra of ten reactor-detector baselines between 6.7 and 9.2 meters. Measured differences in energy spectra between baselines show no statistically significant indication of antineutrinos to sterile neutrino oscillation and disfavor the Reactor Antineutrino Anomaly best-fit point at the 2.5$sigma$ confidence level. The reported U-235 antineutrino energy spectrum measurement shows excellent agreement with energy spectrum models generated via conversion of the measured U-235 beta spectrum, with a $chi^2$/DOF of 31/31. PROSPECT is able to disfavor at 2.4$sigma$ confidence level the hypothesis that U-235 antineutrinos are solely responsible for spectrum discrepancies between model and data obtained at commercial reactor cores. A data-model deviation in PROSPECT similar to that observed by commercial core experiments is preferred with respect to no observed deviation, at a 2.2$sigma$ confidence level.

In 96 calendar days of data taken at an average baseline distance of 7.9 m from the center of the 85 MW HFIR core, the PROSPECT detector has observed more than 50,000 interactions of antineutrinos produced in beta decays of U-235 fission products. New limits on the oscillation of antineutrinos to light sterile neutrinos have been set by comparing the detected energy spectra of ten reactor-detector baselines between 6.7 and 9.2 meters. Measured differences in energy spectra between baselines show no statistically significant indication of antineutrinos to sterile neutrino oscillation and disfavor the Reactor Antineutrino Anomaly best-fit point at the 2.5$sigma$ confidence level. The reported U-235 antineutrino energy spectrum measurement shows excellent agreement with energy spectrum models generated via conversion of the measured U-235 beta spectrum, with a $chi^2$/DOF of 31/31. PROSPECT is able to disfavor at 2.4$sigma$ confidence level the hypothesis that U-235 antineutrinos are solely responsible for spectrum discrepancies between model and data obtained at commercial reactor cores. In these proceedings, measurements of angular correlations between hadron pairs in pp collisions obtained by the ALICE experiment at the LHC are presented and compared with phenomenological predictions. Correlations between particles carrying the same and opposite quantum numbers are studied to understand the hadron production mechanism, and the difference between same-sign and opposite-sign correlations is used to probe charge-dependent effects in particle production. Correlation measurements dominated by minijet fragmentation agree well with the models, but other results, in particular correlations between baryons and strange hadrons, are not yet understood.

The PHENIX experiment has measured the spin alignment for inclusive $J/psirightarrow e^{+}e^{-}$ decays in $p$+$p$ collisions at $sqrt{s}=510$ GeV at midrapidity. The angular distributions have been measured in three different polarization frames, and the three decay angular coefficients have been extracted in a full two-dimensional analysis. Previously, PHENIX saw large longitudinal net polarization at forward rapidity at the same collision energy. This analysis at midrapidity, complementary to the previous PHENIX results, sees no sizable polarization in the measured transverse momentum range of $0.0

The cross section of bottom quark-antiquark ($bbar{b}$) production in $p$+$p$ collisions at $sqrt{s}=510$ GeV is measured with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The results are based on the yield of high mass, like-sign muon pairs measured within the PHENIX muon arm acceptance ($1.2 1$ GeV/$c$, and dimuon mass of 5--10 GeV/$c^2$. The extrapolated total cross section at this energy for $bbar{b}$ production is $13.1 pm 0.6~(mbox{stat}) pm 1.5~(mbox{syst}) pm 2.7~(mbox{global})~mu$b. The total cross section is compared to a perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculation and is consistent within uncertainties. The azimuthal opening angle between muon pairs from $bbar{b}$ decays and their $p_T$ distributions are compared to distributions generated using {sc ps pythia 6}, which includes next-to-leading order processes. The azimuthal correlations and pair $p_T$ distribution are not very well described by {sc pythia} calculations, but are still consistent within uncertainties. Flavor creation and flavor excitation subprocesses are favored over gluon splitting.
