The author investigates the formation and development of territorial-production complexes (TPCs) in the USSR. "The main issue in preliminary studies for a TPC is to determine the long-term industrial and territorial structure of the TPC, as well as to set the sequence of priorities for the construction and start-up of plants in specialized sectors complementing and serving the various industries making up the TPC. Forecasts [must be] made for the size of the population and the dimensions of the industrial and social infrastructure subserving the industrial units in the TPC to be expected by the end of a specified period of time. Our purpose is to determine the dynamics of the above-enumerated elements of the system, as well as the main population growth parameters of all cities and rural areas in a specified region."
"The present article will attempt to determine the extent of interethnic marriage in the Soviet Union in the mid-1930s, utilizing materials from the Central Statistical Administration of the USSR." Interethnic marriage is analyzed according to Union Republic, rural or urban area, and socioeconomic and cultural development.
Trends in the formation of a multiethnic intelligentsia in the USSR are analyzed. "Fundamental attention [is] given to the numerical dynamics of students and specialists from the indigenous population within the over-all makeup of the intelligentsia; to factors ensuring a stable reproduction of a non-Russian intelligentsia; to peculiarities of the ethnic composition of the intelligentsia in the various republics; and to the role of the geographical mobility of school graduates and young specialists in the formation of the ethnic make-up of the student body and the intelligentsia." The analysis concerns the nationalities for which the various republics are named.
