Nematicidal potential of oilcake agains plant nematodes associated with Coriandrum sativum L. in Balochistan, Pakistan 油饼对巴基斯坦俾路支省芫荽植物线虫的杀线虫力

Ten geneta of plant nematode associated with coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) were isolated and identified in ten different localities of Balochistan, Pakistan. The most common was Meloidogyne javanica followed by Basiria spp. Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis using Ward’s method were performed. The results of the two methods supported each other. Castor and mustard oilcakes and carbofuran, a chemical nematicide were used in treatments against Hoplolaimus Columbus and M. javanica larvae. Mustard oilcake was found to be more effective on H. Columbus while castor oilcake showed effective control on M. javanica. Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Res.56(1), 61-68, 2021

Weaning food from indigenous sources in Bangladesh 孟加拉国当地来源的断奶食品

The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate nutritional quality of weaning food from indigenous sources. Three types of weaning food named as F-1 (wheat flour, soya flour, rice flour), F-2 (wheat flour, soya flour, malt extract) and F-3 (malted wheat flour, soya flour, peanuts, lentils, and carrots powder) were prepared for the study. Nutritional quality, functional and sensory characteristics of the developed food were investigated. Functional property as water absorption capacity, bulk density, water binding capacity, solubility, swelling power and viscosity varied from 136.24-145.83 (g/100g), 0.57-0.75 (g/cm3), 410.54-471.07 (g/100g), 35.05-48.81%, 6.16-11.79%, 33.48-39.41 (mp/s), respectively. Essential amino acids content of F-3 such as threonine, alanine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, histidine and lysine were 0.77, 0.67, 0.45, 0.47, 0.51, 0.62, 0.41 and 1.73 (g/100g), respectively. Compositional analysis of fatty acid indicates that it contains 16.01% palmitic acid, 4.27% stearic acid, 45.90% linoleic acid and 25.55% oleic acid in F-3. Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Fortified buckwheat noodles as a potential replacement of locally produced noodles 强化荞麦面是当地生产面条的潜在替代品

The present study explored the possibility of formulating noodles with improved nutritious value and acceptable sensory properties using buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) flour in supplementation of wheat flour and compared the developed noodles with locally available branded noodles in Bangladesh. Wheat flour was substituted with 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% whole buckwheat flour. Ash (1.95-2.16%), protein (13.45-17.04%), fat (0.55-0.78%), fiber (0.23-0.55%) and mineral contents increased with the increasing content of buckwheat flour in noodles preparation. On sensory evaluation, noodles formulated with 30% buckwheat flour were to be found acceptable and were characterized with higher mineral content along with the accession in ash, protein and fiber content up to 2.08%, 16.13% and 0.46% respectively, which outran the values of other locally available noodles. On sensory evaluation and nutritional point of view, it can be concluded that buckwheat noodles is a potential replacement of other available noodles in the local market of Bangladesh. Bangladesh J. Chromium adsorption on coir pith charcoal from tannery wastewater 制革废水中椰壳髓炭对铬的吸附

Emission of high chrome tanning wastewater is catastrophic for the environment. In this work, the effectiveness of coir pith charcoal is stated for the removal of chromium from tannery wastewater. The charcoal yield from the coir pith was 2.4%. The prepared charcoal was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The efficiency of coir pith charcoal for chromium removal was assessed experimenting with various parameters e.g., charcoal dose, contact time, and relative pH. The content of chromium in the raw wastewater and after treatment at filtrate was 3439.2 mg/L and 14.9 mg/L, individually. In the batch experiment at optimized condition, for 75 mL chrome wastewater at 4 g charcoal dose with 15 min contact time, the chromium removal efficiency was attained 99.6%. The level of chloride (Cl-), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) were significantly reduced by 65.7%, 93.7%, and 95.6%, respectively. Chemometric model for rapid detection of urea and hydrogen peroxide in milk 快速检测牛奶中尿素和过氧化氢的化学计量模型

A simple and cost effective method has been developed for determination of adulteration in milk with urea and hydrogen peroxide by using chemometric modeling with Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic data. Milk samples were purchased from a dairy farm (South Banasree, Dhaka, Bangladesh) and spiked at different concentrations of urea and hydrogen peroxide. Spectral data of all samples were collected using ATR-FTIR spectrophotometer. After acquisition of spectral data, they were preprocessed with transformation techniques such as multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) and savitzky-golay derivative. The predictive performance of principal component regression (PCR) and partial least-square regression (PLSR) methods were assessed by relative prediction errors and recoveries (%) were compared . PLSR shows better prediction efficiencies over PCR with R2 value 99% for urea and 95% for hydrogen peroxide.Six brands of commercial milk samples have been evaluated by this method and the samples contain 21.66-44.73 mg urea and 1.62-2.86 mg hydrogen peroxide in 100 ml milk. Seaweeds are fresh sources of phytochemical compounds with immense medicinal potential, which have attracted the attention of agriculture, aquaculture and the pharmaceutical industry. The aim of this study was to test the antioxidant, antibacterial and cytotoxic activity and screening the phytochemical properties of methanol crude extract from two green seaweeds Caulerpa racemosa (Forsskål) J.Agardh and Ulva (Enteromorpha) intestinalis L. The antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of these seaweeds were assessed by 2,2diphenyl, 1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging technique and brine shrimp lethality bioassay method, respectively. The antibacterial activities against Vibrio fluvialis was determined using the standard disc diffusion method. The U. intestinalis showed higher total phenolic content with the value of 149.87 ± 18.17 mg of GAE/g than 73.95 ± 16.09 mg of GAE/g of C. racemosa. However, the recorded inhibition concentration (IC50) to corresponding standards ascorbic acid of C. racemosa and U. intestinalis were 119.62 and 34.274 μg/mL, respectively. The values were statistically significant (p <0.05) compared to the reference antioxidative agent ascorbic acid. In antibacterial assay, C. racemosa extract showed higher inhibition zone (22.65 ± 0.58 mm) than U. intestinalis (17± 0.28 mm). Moreover, U. intestinalis exhibited a lower LC50 value than C. racemosa in cytotoxic activity. Phytochemical analysis revealed that these two seaweeds have alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenols, saponins, steroids and tannins. Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Res.55(4), 237-244, 2020

The aim of this study was to test the antioxidant, antibacterial and cytotoxic activity and screening the phytochemical properties of methanol crude extract from two green seaweeds Caulerpa racemosa (Forsskål) J.Agardh and Ulva (Enteromorpha) intestinalis L. The antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of these seaweeds were assessed by 2,2diphenyl, 1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging technique and brine shrimp lethality bioassay method, respectively. The antibacterial activities against Vibrio fluvialis was determined using the standard disc diffusion method. The U. intestinalis showed higher total phenolic content with the value of 149.87 ± 18.17 mg of GAE/g than 73.95 ± 16.09 mg of GAE/g of C. racemosa. However, the recorded inhibition concentration (IC50) to corresponding standards ascorbic acid of C. racemosa and U. intestinalis were 119.62 and 34.274 μg/mL, respectively. The values were statistically significant (p <0.05) compared to the reference antioxidative agent ascorbic acid. In antibacterial assay, C. racemosa extract showed higher inhibition zone (22.65 ± 0.58 mm) than U. intestinalis (17± 0.28 mm). Moreover, U. intestinalis exhibited a lower LC50 value than C. racemosa in cytotoxic activity. Phytochemical analysis revealed that these two seaweeds have alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenols, saponins, steroids and tannins. \u0000Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Time controlled automatic fish feeder for indoor aquarium 用于室内水族的定时自动喂鱼机

The purpose of this research is about the design and implementation of an automatic feeder to feed fishes in the aquarium when their owners leave home for a prolonged time or forget to feed timely due to their busyness. The mechanical drawing of the feeder is prepared in Auto Desk Fusion 360 software which is followed by the fabrication in a 3-D printer. For automatic feeding, an Arduino microcontroller board has been integrated with the designed mechanical system to control the opening and closing of the food chamber door with the help of a servo motor. An easy digital LCD programming system allows the user to set the time interval between two successive food deliveries and the number of servo rotation at each delivery to supply their desired amount of food. Remediation of environmental pollution has been of great concern in recent years. This study was carried out to investigate the potentials of Nauclea diderrichii seedlings to remediate heavy metals from spent engine oil (SEO) contaminated soil. SEO from diesel and petrol engines in different quantities were applied to each plant using 2 kg soil. Plant height, collar diameter, number of leaves, root length were assessed. Amount of lead and cadmium present in the leaves, stem and root of the seedlings were assessed at the end of the experiment. Result showed that 100 % of the seedlings subjected to various treatments survived for the duration of 5 months. There was no significant difference (α>0.05) in the height of N. diderrichii seedlings. Significant (α=0.05) negative reductions were observed in the seedlings collar diameter, no. of leaves and root length. There was significant difference (α>0.05) in the amount of lead and cadmium extracted by N. diderrichii seedlings. Herein, we report the fluxional dynamic behaviour of terpyridineligand in [Ru(bpy-d8)(η2-tpy)]2+ 1. Reaction of Ru(bpy-d8)2Cl2·2H2O with 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine in refluxing methanol afforded 1. Complex 1 has been characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopic analysis. Variable temperature 1H NMR data reveals that the pendant pyridine ring of the tpy ligand in Ru(bpy-d8)2(tpy)]2+ rotates which effects the adjacent ring protons. Moreover, protonation of 1 with trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) confirms that peripheral N on the pendant pyridyl ring of the tpy ligand affects the chemical shifts of protons on the tpy pendant pyridyl ring. Four Michael 1:1 adducts 2-[1,5-bis-(2-methoxyphenyl)-3-oxo-pent-4-enyl]-cyclohexane-1,3- dione 3a, 2-[1,5-bis-(2-methylphenyl)-3-oxo-pent-4-enyl]-cyclohexane-1,3-dione 3b, 2-[1,5-bis- (2-chlorophenyl)-3-oxo-pent-4-enyl]-cyclohexane-1, 3-dione 3c and 2-[1,5-Bis-(2-chloro- phenyl)- 3-oxo-pent-4-enyl]-5,5-dimethyl-cyclohexane-1,3-dione 3d have been synthesised by the application of Michael reaction between 1, 3-cyclohexanedione 1a or dimedone (5, 5-dimethylcy clohexane-1, 3-dione) 1b and trans,trans diarylideneacetone [1,5-diaryl-1,4-pentadien-3-one] 2a-c using acid catalyst. These adducts may be regarded as the intermediate of spiro [5.5] undecane compounds which can be achieved effectively via intramolecular cyclization of the Michael 1:1 adduct. The structures of the Michael 1:1 adducts 3a-d were determined by their UV, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT-135 spectral data, HRMS and elemental analyses. Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Res.55(4), 283-288, 2020
