Laying performance, egg quality and hatchability traits of Japanese quail (coturnix coturnix japonica) fed a chromium yeast feed additive Layplus(R) 酵母铬饲料添加剂Layplus(R)对日本鹌鹑产蛋性能、蛋品质及孵化率的影响

A 12-week study was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife to evaluate the effect of dietary inclusion of LAYPLUS® (LP) on fertility and egg parameters of female Japanese quails, Coturnix coturnix japonica. Two hundred and ten birds of average weight of 167.75±3.94g were used for this study, and they were allocated randomly into seven treatment groups and replicated thrice. Group 1 served as control without inclusion of LAYPLUS®, while groups 2, 3, 4 and 5 had 250 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, 750mg/kg and 1000mg/kg inclusion of LP and group 6 had 240mg/kg of vitamin E, respectively, and group 7 clomiphene citrate. Eggs were collected daily and egg production was calculated on a bird-day basis. The data obtained were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. There was significant increase (p<0.05) in the egg production parameters namely egg weight, egg laid per hen and percentage laying rate of LP500mg/kg compared with other groups. The highest percentage egg production was by the LP500mg/kg at 57% while the lowest was by the LP250mg/kg at 41%. There was no significant difference in the egg weight and Haugh unit among the supplemented birds and the control group. There was significant difference among the treatments in the percentage hatchability of the eggs with LP500mg/kg eggs recording the highest value of 95.68%. It can be concluded from this experiment that supplementation of the feed with LP at 500mg/kg had beneficial effect on quail production through improved effect on egg production and hatchability. Effect of level of egg content on the quality of pudding using reconstituted milk 鸡蛋含量对再造乳布丁品质的影响

The study was conducted to analyze the physical and chemical parameters of manufactured pudding and to recommend acceptable level of eggs for the manufacture of pudding. Reconstituted milk was prepared by using the instructions given on the packet of whole milk powder. The prepared reconstituted milk was divided into three parts and three different types of puddings were prepared by using 2 eggs, 3 eggs and 4 eggs with reconstituted milk. Amount of milk, sugar and corn flour level was same in all three types. The puddings were designated as A (2 eggs), B (3 eggs) and C (4 eggs) types. Prepared pudding samples were subjected to physical and chemical analysis to monitor their quality. Physical properties (smell, color, consistency and texture) showed pudding that contained 3 eggs obtained the best score (89.13±3.77) from the judges. From chemical analysis, it was observed that 4 eggs containing pudding showed the highest nutritive value as compared to control and other group but organoleptic score was highest for 3 eggs containing pudding. Effect of apple pomace silage on blood parameters in Suffolk ewe 苹果渣青贮对萨福克母羊血液参数的影响

The experiment was carried out to assess the effects of feeding apple pomace silage (APS) on blood parameters in Suffolk ewes. Three ewes were used in 3×3 Latin square design over three periods with three dietary treatments as hay diet, low ethanol APS (L-APS, ethanol 48.7 g kg-1 DM) diet and high ethanol APS (H-APS, ethanol 87.2 g kg-1 DM) diet. Alfalfa hay cube and APS provided half of 110% TDN requirement for APS diets. The area upper or under the curve (AUC) of plasma ethanol was greater (P<0.01) in APS diets than that of hay diet and H-APS diet had grater (P<0.01) AUC than that of L-APS. The AUC of plasma β-hydroxybutyrate in both APS diets were greater (P<0.01) than that of hay diet. Plasma ethanol AUC was positively correlated (P<0.05) with the AUCs of plasma lactate, triglyceride and glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), and negatively correlated (P<0.05) with the AUC of plasma urea nitrogen. Plasma lactate AUC was positively correlated (P<0.05, P<0.01, and P<0.05, respectively) with the AUC of free cholesterol, triglyceride and GOT, and negatively correlated (P<0.01) with that of plasma urea nitrogen. The AUC of plasma β-hydroxybutyrate was negatively correlated (P<0.01) with that of glucose. Finally, blood parameters examination revealed that feeding of APS lead to increase plasma ethanol, lactate, β-hydroxybutyrate and lipid components and tended to decrease glucose levels. Bang. J. Effect of bypass protein supplement on milk production in Jersey cow 补充旁路蛋白对泽西奶牛产奶量的影响

Bypass protein is known to stimulate the voluntary feed intake, increase quality milk production and thereby improve economic status from dairy cows farming. This study was conducted to compare the responses of additional bypass protein as feed supplement on milk production performance in Jersey dairy cows, and its cost benefits per L of milk production. A total of 12 lactating Jersey dairy cows, apparently having similar reproductive and productive performances were selected. The cows were randomly grouped into 3 treatments groups; T1 (Control): 6 kg concentrate mixture, T2: 6 kg concentrate mixture plus 1.5 kg heat-treated soybean cake, and T3: 6 kg concentrate mixture plus 1.5 kg formalin treated soybean cake. An acclimatization period of 7 days, the experimental procedure was carried for the period of 62 days. Other management; feeding - adlib amount of straw and green grass such as oat, signal and local grass once a day, natural grazing average 3 hrs/ day), watering and housing remained as routinely done by the farm. The compound feed was procured from Fine Feeds Industries Pvt. Ltd., Chitwan, Nepal. Feed intake and milk production of individual animal was recorded daily. The straw and concentrate intake of experimental cows among the treatment groups differed significantly (P<0.001), whereas green grass intake among the diet groups differed insignificantly. The initial recorded milk production 5.4 L, 5.45 L and 5.62 L among the treatment groups found insignificant, whereas the final milk production 7.85 L, 6.12 L and 5.82 L among the treatment groups found highly significant (P<0.001). The economic analysis (its cost benefits per L of milk production) during the period of 62 days of experimentation, it was revealed that feeding package T2 is more beneficial than T3. The net income accounted for NRs 12152.11 and NRs 7457. 55 using T2 and T3 feeding package, respectively. Therefore, it is suggested that heat-treated soybean cake supplementation to early lactating (up to 3 months) dairy cows is one of the option to increase milk production and income of farmers. Comparative study on the libido, semen quality and fertility of Brahman cross, Holstein Friesian cross and Red Chittagong breeding bulls 婆罗门杂交、荷斯坦杂交和红色吉大港种牛性欲、精液质量和育性的比较研究

The present study was undertaken to compare the performance of 8 (eight) breeding bulls of three different genetic groups such as Brahman × local (4 bulls), Holstein Friesian × local (2 bulls) and Red Chittagong (2 bulls) based on libido, semen quality and fertility. Semen parameters were evaluated from 30 ejaculates from each bull and fertility rate was calculated based on 60-days non-return rate via AI using these semen samples. Genetic group of breeding bulls had significant (p<0.05) effect on libido. Holstein Friesian cross breeding bulls showed significantly (p<0.05) highest libido (3.77±0.15) followed by Brahman cross (3.38±0.07) and lowest in Red Chittagong (RC) breeding bulls (2.96±0.11). Semen attributes also significantly affected by the different genetic group of bulls. Holstein Friesian crossbred breeding bulls with highest libido provided significantly (p<0.01) highest volume of semen (5.63±0.16 ml) per ejaculate, progressive motility (74.73±0.76%), live sperm (84.18±0.62%) and normal sperm (83.18±1.47%) whereas these parameters were significantly (p<0.01) lowest in RC breeding bulls. Moreover, libido showed a strong and positive correlation with all these semen parameters. The fertility rate was also significantly highest (p<0.05) in Holstein Friesian crossbred breeding bull (63.67±1.46%), followed by Brahman crossbred (58.86±1.05%) and lowest in RC breeding bulls (53.42±0.85%). These results suggested that semen quality is positively correlated with the libido of breeding bulls and quality is important for higher fertility. Therefore, libido as well as semen quality evaluation may be important criteria to discard the breeding bulls with poor fertility in an AI program. Bang. J. Anim. Sci. 2018. 47 (2): 61-67

Moreover, libido showed a strong and positive correlation with all these semen parameters. The fertility rate was also significantly highest (p<0.05) in Holstein Friesian crossbred breeding bull (63.67±1.46%), followed by Brahman crossbred (58.86±1.05%) and lowest in RC breeding bulls (53.42±0.85%). These results suggested that semen quality is positively correlated with the libido of breeding bulls and quality is important for higher fertility. Performance of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citrates) oil as growth promoter in broiler 柠檬草油作为肉鸡生长促进剂的性能研究

An attempt was taken to study the growth performance of lemongrass oil (Cymbopogon citraturs) as a growth promoter on the broiler production. A total of 180day-old broiler chicks were procured from private hatchery (Shivam Hatchery Birgung, Parsa, Nepal) and were allocated following Completely Randomized Design (CRD) into four treatment groups (each treatment with 3 replications and each replication with 15 birds); T1= control, T2= containing lemongrass oil 200 ml/100 kg feed, T3= containing lemongrass oil 400 ml/100 kg feed and, T4= containing lemongrass oil 600 ml/100 kg feed. The study was carried out for 36 days at Avian Research Unit, Regional Agriculture Research Station, Parwanipur, Bara, Nepal. Concentrate mixture and lemongrass oil were procured from Shakti Feed Industry, Birgung; Herbs Processing Plant of Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Jadibuti, Kathmandu, respectively. Experimental birds were provided ad libitum amount of starter feed from 0 to 21 days and finisher feed from 22 to 36 days. Feed intake was recorded daily and body weight gain was measured in 7 days interval. The study revealed that the cumulative feed intake per bird was found higher in T3 (3443.17g) followed by T4 (3377.33g) and T2 (3354.04g), respectively, and were statistically non-significant among the diet groups. The FCR was highest in T3 (1:1.44 kg) and lowest in T4 (1:1.51 kg), and differed insignificantly among the diet groups. Similarly, the total weight gain of the experimental bird was found to be higher in T3 (2385.13g) followed by T1 (2279.46g) and T2 (2271.86g), respectively.  The average daily gain of experimental birds noted higher in T3 (66.25g) followed by T1 and T2 (63.31g) and (63.1g), respectively. The experiment suggested that inclusion of lemongrass oil could be considered as an alternative to antibiotic growth promoter in broiler diet to enhance the production performance. Effect of chitosan on quality and shelf life of beef at refrigerated storage 壳聚糖对牛肉冷藏品质及保质期的影响

In this study, the microbiological quality and shelf life of beef treated with different concentrations of chitosan (CHI) was investigated. Beef samples obtained from a local market were dipped into 1%, 1.5% and 2% chitosan solutions prepared with 1% acetic acid. The samples were drained, vacuum packed and stored at 4°C for a period of 12 days. The samples were evaluated for sensorial properties (color, odor and overall acceptability) and microbial counts (TVC, TCC and TYMC) on 0, 4, 8 and 12 days of storage. Chitosan treated samples having 1%, 1.5%, 2% chitosan solution and control which were expressed as T1, T2, T3 and T0 respectively. The obtained results showed that addition of chitosan solution, significantly (p<0.05) affected on physicochemical (pH, CP, POV, Cooking Loss), microbiological (TVC, TCC, TYMC) and sensory attributes (color, odor, overall acceptance) compared to control samples at refrigerated temperature. The pH and POV of all the treatment groups increase significantly (p<0.05) compared to control group at different days of interval during storage. The CP and cooking loss of different treatment groups decrease significantly (p<0.05) compared to control group at different days of interval during storage. The results also revealed that the samples were dipped in chitosan solution (1%, 1.5%, 2%) significantly (p<0.05) improved the microbiological quality, sensory attributes and reduced lipid oxidation in beef samples compared to the control samples at different days interval. However, abnormal changes were not determined on the samples treated with chitosan, even on the last day of storage. In beef, storage at 4°C for 12 days, chitosan inhibited the growth of spoilage bacteria, reduce lipid oxidation, putrefaction and resulted in better sensory test. The results indicated that the application of chitosan on the beef samples improve the microbiological quality and extends the shelf life usually 5-8 days, which could an alternative to chemical protective additives.Bang. This work examined the effects of incorporation of exogenous enzyme preparation on growth and performance traits in broilers fed diet containing 400 g/Kg of L. angustifolius(cv. Arabella) of Europe and L. angustifolius (cv. Kalya) obtained from Australia. A maize- soy (MS) based diet served as a control diet and acted as positive, while non-protein control diet acted as a negative control (NPC) and fed ad libitum for 18 days. Growth rate, apparent digestibility of N, fat and excretion of essential minerals were assessed. In comparison to broilers fed maize-soy (MS) diet, broilers fed the L. angustifolius  of European origin (EL) diet, consumed less feed, had considerably lower body weight gain, as well as lower apparent digestibility. Addition of Rena phytase to the EL (ELPH) and L. angustifolius of Australian origin (ALPH) increased feed intake, however, the feed gain ratio was found to be decreased. . This study indicates that a diet containing high level of lupin meal is detrimental to feed intake broilers and thus affected their performance. However, when lupin meal diet was supplemented with Rena phytase, performance parameters were not different from those obtained from raw meal. The inclusion of lupin meal with or without exogenous enzyme had significant effect on the mineral content of the faeces and on mineral balance. The results suggest that lupin protrein is involved in the elevated loss of minerals associated with long-term effects of this seed as protein source in poultry. Compared to those of control, the N excretion was in the range of 14.9% (EL), 15.6% (ELPH) and 13.9% (ALPH). On the other hand, digestibility was found to be in the range of 78% (EL) and 73% (ELPH) than the corresponding control fed on (MS) diet. The fat excretion was found to be highest in (ALPH) fed diet 19.1% as compared to those of control. True fat digestibility was found to be at the lowest level n ALPH group. The present work has revealed a very remarkable property of L. angustifolius of Australian lupin, that has caused high level of fat excretion in the droppings of broilers fed this as compared to those of its European counterpart. It is highly likely that Australian lupin due to its gel forming character may have caused this kind of response in fecal lipid excretion.Bang. J. Anim. Sci. 2017. 46 (4): 266-272

The important small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) of Bombyx mori sHSP19.9, sHSP20.1, sHSP20.4, sHSP20.8, sHSP21.4 and sHSP23.7 are known to display distinct chaperone like activity (CLA) against a range of non-native protein aggregation during environmental stress. The small heat shock proteins sHSP19.9 and sHSP20.8 are identical polypeptides containing a single Cys residue: Cys-43 and Cys-123 respectively. The current information proposes that sHSPs function to prevent irreversible aggregation sometimes pre-incubation is pre-requisite to enhance their chaperone activities. In an attempt to determine their function, we have examined whether these two proteins have CLA using pre-incubation chaperone assay. The assay was conducted against the aggregation of a non-native protein, bovine liver catalase (BLC), which is readily aggregated at 60° C. Heat induced aggregation of BLC was decreased from 100 to 17% in the presence of pre-incubated sHSP20.8, which was 60% for without pre-incubation at a 1:0.5 molar ratio of BLC to sHSP. Whereas the aggregation was decreased from 100 to 33% in the presence of sHSP19.9 with dithiothreitol (DTT) , which was 67% for without pre-incubation at a 1:0.25 molar ratio of BLC to sHSP. The functional reason for such variation might be due to the position of Cys residue in the amino acid sequence.Bang. J. Anim. Sci. 2017. 46 (4): 258-265

Effect on blood cholesterol level with increase in concentration of probiotics to Giriraja and Sakini chicken in Nepal 提高益生菌浓度对尼泊尔吉里拉贾鸡和萨基尼鸡血胆固醇水平的影响

The chicken population is increasing and the meat is acceptable by most ethnic groups, these species are remarkable for the meat production in the country. Probiotic microorganisms have played significant role in lowering cholesterol which have been documented over the past two decades via various clinical trials. This Cholesterol lowering properties of microorganism have been proposed to deconjugate bile via production of bile salt hydrolase (BSH) associated with their cholesterol lowering potentials in prevention of hypercholesterolemia. Deconjugated bile salts are more hydrophobic than their conjugated counterparts, thus are less reabsorbed through the intestines resulting in higher excretion into the feces. Of total 16 replicate, T1R1-T1R4 were without probiotics whereas T2R1-T2R4, T3R1-T3R4, T4R1-T4R4 were with probiotics 5%, 10% and 15% concentration Probiotics for Sakini male and female. Similary for Giriraja breed T5R1-T5R4, T6R1-T6R4, T7R1-T7R4 and T8R1-T8R4 were 0%, 5%, 10% and 15% concentration of with Probiotics. There was comparatively degradation of Cholesterol in blood with increase in probiotics concentration via Cell Net Analyzer.Bang. J. Anim. Sci. 2017. 46 (4): 225-229
