Economic evaluation of Arapaima gigas production in earth ponds: Case study of a small fish farm at San Martin-Peru 土塘巨骨舌鱼生产的经济评价:以秘鲁圣马丁的一个小型养鱼场为例

Arapaima gigas is an Amazon specie with great commercial demand and high production performance, but its feasibility is variable. The current study aimed to perform an economic evaluation of the production of A. gigas on earth ponds in San Martin, Peru. Three hundred young fish (19 ± 0.01 cm and 68.32 ± 0.01 g) were stocked (ten fish·m–2 in three ponds of 1000 m2 for 390 days). Growth performance was evaluated based on the survival, feed conversion rate (FCR), final mean weight, final average length, weight gain, specific growth rate, and productivity. Investment, costs, indicators, and feasibility were determined. Arapaima gigas has a profitable production performance in earth ponds in Peru, fish presented a weight gain (kg) of 11 kg in 390 days and productivity of 3,265.70 kg·ha–1. Food and fingerlings were the most important items in the production cost. This production is a low-investment and high-profitable business, with an incremental investment of US$3,287.15, profit of US$ 3,977.38·cycle–1, Net Present Value of US$ 22,149.37, and an Intern Rate Return of 32.28%. This could be a way of increasing the income of small producers through the diversification of their production.

The aim of this study was to select autochthonous bacteria with probiotic potential from the gastrointestinal tract of King Tiger Pleco (Hypancistrus sp.) for future applications in captive production. For the isolation of lactic acid bacteria, 12 specimens (8.31 ± 0.28 cm and 12.60 ± 1.13 cm) were used, whose intestines were removed, macerated, and homogenized in sterile saline. A total of 21 strains were isolated from the intestinal tract on MRS agar, of which five strains (St1, St2, St3, St4, and St5) were selected for in-vitro tests. Three strains (St2, St3, and St5) showed the highest values of maximum growth per hour, with a final concentration of 109 CFU.mL-1 in 24 hours. However, only the strains St3 and St5 had the highest growth (p<0.05) in the presence of NaCl (0.5 to 1.5%) and pH in the range of 5 and 6. For bile salts, the greatest resistance observed was for strain St5. In conclusion, this is the first report of the isolation of autochthonous bacteria for a Loricariidae, recommending the bacterium Enterococcus faecium as probiotic in the aquaculture creation of King Tiger Pleco.

Anesthetic effect and acute toxicity of Citrus sinensis essential oil in betta 柑桔精油对斗鱼的麻醉作用及急性毒性

This study investigated the use of Citrus sinensis essential oil (EOCS) in Betta splendens, evaluating toxicity, induction and recovery times to anesthesia, its action on agonist behavior, and on male collective transport. To toxicity, fish were exposed to EOCS at different concentrations during 48 h. The induction test was performed to evaluate sedation, anesthesia, and recovery under different concentrations. To assess agonist behavior, male subjects were maintained with different dosages of EOCS, assessing opercular beat and fin expansion, while exposed to untreated animals. In the mass transport study, males were divided into two treatments with two levels of EOCS, for 6 h, also analyzing gill histometry at the end of transport. The results obtained show that the mean lethal concentration in 48 h of exposure to EOCS was calculated at 49.17 μL·L−1. The shortest anesthesia induction time was at 300 μL·L−1 EOCS. EOCS was able to reduce agonist behavior in males individual. Histometric analyzes revealed a reduction in the height of gill filaments in fish transported with 20 μL·L-1 EOCS. EOCS can be used as a sedative and anesthetic agent for B. splendens.

Enrichment of Artemia sp. with autochthonous probiotics at different levels in larviculture of piauçu Megaleporinus macrocephalus 不同水平的本地益生菌在大头巨虾养殖中对蒿属植物的富集

The research investigated the effect of dietary supplementation with Artemia sp. enriched with the autochthonous probiotic Enterococcus faecium on growth performance, microbiota modulation, intestinal morphology, and resistance to pathogenic bacteria of Megaleporinus macrocephalus larvae. The study evaluated four treatments (C: without probiotics; T1: 1 × 104 ; T2:1× 106 ; and T3: 1 × 108 CFU·mL-1) in quadruplicates. The larvae (n = 160; weight = 5.3 ± 2.3mg and length = 3.73±0.4mm) were distributed in 16 L containers at a density of 10 larvae·L-1 for 20 days. The productive performance, survival, gut microbiology, and histology were measured. The larvae were also submitted to acute challenge against the pathogenic bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila. The results showed that supplementation with 1 × 108 CFU·mL-1 promotes greater gain in length (13.78 ± 0.40 cm) and total weight (0.08 ± 0.002 g), higher counts of lactic acid bacteria and lower total heterotrophic in the intestines (7.11±0.30; 0.12 ± 0.09 log CFU·g-1, respectively) and larger villi (0.26 ± 0.03μm). Diets containing probiotics influenced the animals’ resistance to acute infection, with a lower accumulated mortality in T3 (33% ± 11.54%) and a higher one in C+ (93% ± 11.54%). Thus, probiotic supplementation with the autochthonous bacterium E. faecium (1×108CFU·mL-1) provides zootechnical improvement, villus increase and greater resistance to infections.

Characterization and spatiotemporal dynamics of the ichthyofauna of two tidal containment zones on the Brazilian Amazon coast 巴西亚马逊海岸两个潮汐围护带鱼类区系的特征和时空动态

This study aimed to characterize spatiotemporal variations in the ichthyofauna of two tidal containment zones in Maranhão state, Brazil. Monthly, collections were carried out in the containment zones of São Luís and São José de Ribamar, with samplings performed after the peak of the lowest tide (transition between low tide and high tide).Physicochemical parameters such as water salinity, temperature, transparency, and precipitation were measured monthly. A gill net (25-mm mesh) was used to capture fish. A total of 169 ichthyic individuals were captured and identified in the coastal containment areas of São Luís and São José de Ribamar. The orders Perciformes (41%) and Siluriformes (13.6%) were the most representative in terms of number of species. According to analysis of the t-test, there were significant seasonal and spatial variations in the number of organisms (p < 0.05), with the highest catches in rainy and transitional months. It was possible to identify a variation in niches in both study areas, the influence of physicochemical parameters on ichthyofaunal communities of São Luís and São José de Ribamar, and the effects of the containment structures on fish biomass and diversity, mainly in São Luís.

This work compared biofloc technology and aquamimicry technologies in Litopenaeus vannamei lined ponds, using a density of 60 shrimp·m-2. The experiment lasted 120 days, with two treatments, bioflocs (TBio) and aquamimicry (TMi), and three replications for each. In both treatments, the average values of the water quality parameters were as follows: temperature was 24.0 ± 0.32 °C, dissolved oxygen was 8.00 ± 0.45 mg·L-1, pH was 8.40 ± 0.20, and alkalinity was 240.01 ± 37.15 mg·L-1. The control of water quality was effectively maintained in both treatments, indicating the aquamimicry system’s capability to efficiently recycle the nutrients found in the lined ponds’ water. Furthermore, both treatments demonstrated efficiency in shrimp production, and the shrimp from the TMi treatment reached an average final weight of 11.73 ± 2.21 g, average survival of 53.3 ± 15.2%, and productivity of 3.56 ± 0.15-ton·ha-1. The TBio shrimp reached a final weight of 11.48 ± 1.25 g, survival of 63.3 ± 8.16%, and productivity of 4.08 ± 1.10-ton·ha-1. The present study demonstrated that TMi treatment pondspresented zootechnical performances close to those of TBio treatment ponds. The results achieved can contribute to the improvement of this cultivation system to use it in higher stocking densities.

Sport fishing in Brazil: the current state 巴西的钓鱼运动:现状

Sport fishing has ecological, economic, and social importance, but there are few studies that characterize it according to the sustainability tripod. Due to this gap, we present a systematic review of the literature to evaluate the current situation of sport fishing in Brazil. The papers on the subject were systematically evaluated based on quantitative criteria. Additionally, in order to create a list of the species of interest of sport fishers, the survey of 22 papers was carried out regarding the species caught. A total of 70 complete papers published between 1994 and 2021 were included in the study. Since the 1990s, publications have increased quantitatively, with most studies coming from the South-Eastern region of Brazil (39.19%). The papers published discussed, in the majority, the sport fishing carried out in marine environment (55.38%), and the focus was “fishing and fishers” (30%). Evaluating the sustainability tripod, most of the papers provided only information regarding the ecological aspect (58.57%). About 330 species of marine and freshwater fish of interest to sport fishers were dealt with in the studies. This information reflects the current state of knowledge about Brazilian sport fishing, and it can serve as a basis for the management of the activity and the target species used by fishers. Additionally, the present review can serve as an aid for future research on this topic.

D1 index. The diversity of the sedentary behaviour and walking was characterised using the first three Hill's numbers. For sedentary behaviour the bouts only need to be characterised by their length The range of possible length is discretised in logarithmically distributed bins since the bouts distribution is a power law. For walking the bouts need to be characterised by both length and cadence. The range of possible length is discretised in logarithmically distributed bins since the bouts distribution is log normal. And the range of cadence is discretised on a linear bin scale. These numbers were expressed in equivalent number of bouts D α by taking the exponential of their value to give direct comparison with the total number of sedentary bouts recorded.

Com este estudo, objetivaram-se isolar e identificar leveduras presentes na microbiota intestinal de Litopenaeusvannamei cultivados em estuário tropical e testar in vitro a capacidade probiótica e adsorvente de aflatoxina B1(AFB1)por cepas de Saccharomyces cerevisiae isoladas. Foram adquiridos 40 camarões da espécie L. vannamei, fizeram-se o isolamento e a identificação de leveduras intestinais por sequenciamento molecular, e foram escolhidas três cepas de S. cerevisiae (C2B, C2D e C9) para avaliar o potencial probiótico. Realizaram-se os seguintes testes: inibição homóloga, autoagregação, coagregação, atividade antibacteriana, viabilidade às condições gastrointestinais etambém a análise de adsorção de AFB1. Foram identificadas as seguintes espécies: Candida spp., Candida tropicalis, Lodderomyces elongisporus, Rhodotorula spp. e S. cerevisiae. As cepas de S. cerevisiae isoladas apresentaram atividadeantibacteriana, e a cepa C9 obteve melhor desempenho nos testes de atividade antimicrobiana, na viabilidade em pH e na adsorção da AFB1 do que as demais. Concluiu-se que é possível isolar Candida spp., C.tropicalis, Rhodotorula sp. e S. cerevisiae, e o estudo demonstrou pela primeira vez que L. elongisporus pode estar presente no intestino em viveiros. As cepas de S. cerevisiae isoladas do intestinos de L. vannamei possuem potencial probiótico e adsorvente de AFB1 em testes in vitro.
