Bovine Renal Lipofuscinosis in a Tanzanian Crossbred Yearling Male Calf: A Case Report 坦桑尼亚杂交一岁公犊的牛肾脏脂膜炎:病例报告

Aim: To report a rare case of bovine renal lipofuscinosis (BRL) that was encountered incidentally at necropsy. Presentation of the Case: In June 2023 an yearling male calf was found dead in one of the dairy cattle farms in Mbeya city, Tanzania; after being sick for about a week. The owner requested a necropsy service to establish the cause of the death of the animal.  Necropsy revealed significant gross pathological changes in a liver that was cooked-like and shrunken, with flabby consistence and large pale necrotic foci. Furthermore, dark blue discoloration of both kidneys with normal morphology was evident. Based on the history and gross pathological findings, the animal was diagnosed to have died from acute hepatitis. Differential diagnosis for kidney discoloration included hemachromatosis, renal hemosiderosis, BRL, and melanotic renal cell carcinoma (MRCC). After ruling out hemachromatosis, renal hemosiderosis and MRCC in the list of possible causes of kidney discoloration based on the lack of gross pathological findings, particularly hepatic fibrosis, pallor, and a mass of tumor tissue in the kidneys that are characteristic of hemachromatosis, renal hemosiderosis and MRCC, respectively; the cause of kidney discoloration was diagnosed as BRL. Discussion: In this necropsy, the history and gross pathology suggested that the animal’s death could be attributed to acute liver failure, which is one of the sequelae of acute hepatitis. Kidney discoloration was not considered an attribute factor to the animal’s death because, with the exception of discoloration, the kidneys did not have gross pathological changes. Moreover, to date there has been no report of a clinical disease in cattle associated with BRL. However, BRL is an important disorder because it leads to condemnation of the affected kidneys as unfit for human consumption.   Conclusion: The case of BRL reported here was an incidental finding at necropsy, and is not associated with the death of the animal.

Association between Serum Biomarkers of Muscle Damage after Isokinetic Eccentric Exercise in Trained Males and Females 受过训练的男性和女性进行等速偏心运动后肌肉损伤的血清生物标志物之间的关系

Eccentric exercise is well-known to induce muscle damage, and biomarkers may be related to the magnitude of impact on muscle force and muscle soreness after exercise. However, this phenomenon still needs to be investigated in more detail. The present study aimed to analyze if a correlation between muscle force, soreness, and biomarkers after eccentric exercise exists in healthy, trained 11 males and females. Eleven volunteers with previous resistance training experience performed 6 x 10 maximal isokinetic eccentric contractions of the elbow flexors in the muscle performance laboratory up to 72 hours after exercise. Peak torque was measured by maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVIC) and muscle soreness by visual analogic scale (VAS) before, 24h, 48h, and 72h after the isokinetic eccentric exercise protocol. A fluorescence immunoassay analyzer determined Myoglobin and C-reactive protein levels. The MVIC significantly decreased while muscle soreness increased 24h, 48h, and 72h post eccentric exercise. Myoglobin significantly increased 48h and 72h after exercise. Muscle soreness was inversely correlated with MVIC 24h, 48h, and 72h and positively correlated with myoglobin 48h and 72h after eccentric exercise. The myoglobin was not correlated with muscle force. No significant correlation between C-reactive protein and muscle soreness and MVIC was found. In conclusion, our data suggest that myoglobin could be a valuable biomarker to be assessed alongside exercise-induced muscle soreness.

An Application of Markov Chain Analysis to Study the Indian Cocoa Products Export Performance 应用马尔可夫链分析研究印度可可产品的出口绩效

The paper attempts to quantify the changing structure of Indian cocoa product exports. Data for analysis was considered for a period of 10 years from 2013-14 to 2022-23. The growth rates of exports of Indian cocoa products to Nigeria, Indonesia, USA, UAE, The Netherlands and other countries have shown a positive trend. The Markov chain analysis was attempted through the linear programming method to assess the transition probabilities for the major cocoa markets. The results revealed that Nigeria, Nepal, UAE and other countries were stable markets for Indian cocoa export products. Whereas, Indonesia and The Netherlands were the least stable markets based on the magnitude of transition probabilities. The export share predictions for 2025-26 behaved stagnant while also increasing slightly for major destinations.

By 2050, there will be approximately 10 billion people on the planet, therefore finding greener methods to produce food will be crucial. A significant greener method involves the use of beneficial bacteria known as plant growth-promoting microorganisms. These microscopic organisms can increase crop yields, strengthen the soil and foster healthier plant growth. Beneficial microbes include bacteria, fungi, algae. They are eco-friendly and enhance nutrient absorption by the plants. These nutrients include nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. In addition, some species of biofertilizers produce plant growth hormones. The opinion article outlines the advantages and important biofertilizers strains which are used commercially.

Tourism Policies and Performance of Nigerian Heritage Sites 尼日利亚遗产地的旅游政策和绩效

Background: Tourism policies have a significant impact on the preservation, promotion, and overall performance of heritage sites for both domestic and international tourists. This review provides insights into the entities responsible for tourism policy formulation, the policy objective, and how the stated objectives are being realized while shedding light on their implications for sustainability, economic growth, and cultural preservation. The main objective of Nigeria's tourism policy is to protect and improve the nation's natural and cultural heritage. Many activities aimed at encouraging tourism development include planning, provision of infrastructure, taxation regime that supports tourism growth, education and training for tourism employees, marketing, legislation and regulation in order to protect and preserve tourist facilities as well as the country's natural resources, historical and cultural assets. The critical concern is the enforcement and effectiveness of regulations, specifically the probability of a policy successfully promoting sustainable and viable tourism development and management.Aims: This paper therefore investigates the influence of tourism policies on the performance of heritage sites in Nigeria and the need for policy review for improved performance of Nigerian heritage sites.Methodology: The qualitative research paradigm emerged from a comprehensive review of tourism policy literature in Nigeria. The examination of documents and research projects focused on various aspects of tourism policy planning and governance, policy formulation, policy objectives, and their implications for sustainability, economic growth, and natural/cultural heritage preservation. In the data analysis, the comprehensive review were presented with an interpretative narrative.Results:  The findings revealed that Nigeria's tourism policy seeks to empower the tourism industry and position it as a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and cultural heritage preservation.  However, the policy's ability to achieve its goals optimally has been significantly hampered by lack of relevant mechanisms to measure overall levels of compliance, overreliance on petroleum resources, poor planning, and inadequate participation of relevant stakeholders in policy formulation, implementation, and monitoring.Conclusion: Despite policies and frameworks, Nigeria's tourism sector, including cultural heritage sites, has failed to reach its goals, losing the economy numerous potential benefits. In order to address the current circumstances and ensure successful heritage site design, development, and management in Nigeria, there is an urgent need for revision of the country’s tourism policy objectives and adequate enforcement measures implemented to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.

Insights into Information Perception in Poultry Farming Systems 对家禽养殖系统中信息感知的见解

Indian poultry industry has found to be more structured and evolved as a dynamic organization in last two decades. Planning, organizing, directing, monitoring and controlling can profoundly be seen. Indian poultry industry contributes significantly to total livestock sectors contribution to India's GDP. India's poultry meat production is 3.4 million tons and its eggs production is sixty-five million tons and industry ranks second and third in worlds ranking in meat and eggs production respectively (FAO). The data was collected from stakeholders with the help of pretested interview schedule. The separate interview schedule was prepared for broiler farmers (100 samples), breeder farmers (10 samples) and processing cum distribution centers (20 samples). The study revealed that the majority of the poultry farmers, 63 per cent were aged between 35 to 54 years. Young generation farmers, aged between 20 to 34 years, 37 per cent, seemed lesser interested in poultry farming. In addition, women farmers were on only 3 per cent out of total sample farmers surveyed. It is indicative of the need for the promotion of poultry farming as a source of women empowerment. Almost 81 per cent farmers stated that poultry farming is their main occupation and major source of income where they have fulltime business commitment. Among the sample farmers, majority of, 52 per cent, were new entrant. The majority of farmers, 54 per cent, were rearing 5000 to 9999 birds at their farm and they were classified under medium-sized poultry farms. The average area of small farms was 2785.71 sq. ft., medium farm was 5886.89 sq. ft. and large farms was 18403 sq. ft. All the sample farmers had permanent housing (100 per cent) with pucca flooring (90 per cent). Almost 81 per cent farmers had their poultry shades in agriculture farms.

The effect of behavioral biases and financial literacy on investment decision-making among individual investors in the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange were investigated in this research. The study explores the relationships between behavioral biases such as herding, overconfidence, and anchoring, and market anomalies, including fundamental and technical anomalies. Utilizing a structured questionnaire with a sample size of 220 and employed structural equation modeling (SEM) using AMOS, to evaluate the hypotheses outlined in conceptual framework. The findings reveal significant associations between these biases and anomalies, highlighting their substantial influence on investment decisions. Notably, herding bias (HB) and anchoring bias (AB) positively influence both fundamental anomalies (FA) and technical anomalies (TA), while overconfidence bias (OB) negatively impacts fundamental anomalies (FA). Moreover, financial literacy is identified as a crucial moderator, affecting the decision-making process. While limitations exist, such as potential biases in data collection, the study underscores the importance of addressing behavioral biases and enhancing financial literacy to promote informed investment strategies and market stability. These findings contribute to enhancing financial knowledge and market efficiency.

The ecological sustainability of rivers is in question due to severe pollution and lack of stringent regulations. For trend analysis 14 parameters were used such pH, EC (μS/cm at 25°C), TDS (mg/l), Total Hardness (mg/l), Calcium (mg/l), Magnesium (mg/l), Sodium (mg/l), Potassium (mg/l), Carbonate (mg/l), Bicarbonate (mg/l), Sulphate (mg/l), Chloride (mg/l), Fluoride (mg/l) and Nitrate (mg/l). The value of water physical, biological and chemical parameters of temporal resolution indicate that value of pH, EC (μS/cm at 25°C), TDS (mg/l), Total Hardness (mg/l), Calcium (mg/l), Magnesium (mg/l), Sodium (mg/l), Potassium (mg/l), Carbonate (mg/l), Bicarbonate (mg/l), Sulphate (mg/l), Chloride (mg/l), Fluoride (mg/l) and Nitrate (mg/l) were observed very high compared to recommended value of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and World Health Organization (WHO). The average water quality index value was observed as 381.244 hence, it can be concluded that the investigated ground water was not suitable for drinking and even irrigation purposes.

Purulia was the westernmost district of West Bengal (from 1956) and is drought-prone due to deficient rainfall, its undulating topography with rugged hilly terrains and its positioning near the Tropic of Cancer, the spatial evaluation of vulnerable and risk-prone places. The various impacts of drought, such as meteorological, hydrological, and agricultural, are assessed by considering the meteorological parameters, vulnerability, and risk levels. The fundamental factors impacting susceptibility and risk are recognised, and the drought years are analysed. The methodologies applied GIS technology, EREDAS, and secondary data were collected to analyse the type of drought. The intensities and types of droughts: a spatial analysis and relative vulnerability assessment of the Kashipur/ Purulia block by Remote Sensing and GIS. Analysis of pre- and post-monsoon meteorological and Agricultural drought. Agriculture is a climate-sensitive activity. The mechanism is to know the farmers, what crops to grow, when suitable, the climatic parameters, temperature, rainfall concentration, and seasonal hazards. A well-planned agriculture practice has been proposed, and an adequately calculated water budget, catchment treatment plan, and implementation of a perfect crop plan, seeds, manures, and pesticides are the weapons of the drought-hit Purulia/Kashipur farmers.

Insect pests can transmit diseases or affect the economy and their uncontrolled growth is intensified by human activity, which has affected ecosystems and interfered with trophic chains. Aedes aegypti L. transmits dengue, chikungunya, zika and yellow fever, while Sitophilus zeamais Motsch is a stored grain pest, and Nasutitermes corniger Motsch attacks trees and urban buildings. This work provides a review of the state of art and current trends, as well as a bibliometric analysis on the insecticidal activity of plant-based products against Ae. aegypti, S. zeamais and N. corniger. The review of literature data showed that plant insecticides comprise secondary metabolites and proteins that can impair the viability of embryos, larvae, pupae, and adults, as well as fertility and oviposition or feeding behavior of insects. Also, they tend to be more biodegradable and less harmful to non-target organisms compared to synthetic insecticides. The bibliometric analysis revealed the concentration of publications in tropical regions worldwide, where there is a strong occurrence of diseases transmitted by Ae. aegypti. These reports were far more numerous than those on N. corniger and S. zeamais. Furthermore, the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles from plant products has strongly emerged as a current trend.
