Little is known about how patients with End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) view their life quality, yet this is an outcome of increasing importance. Most research in this area has been conducted within a certain Western countries’ context using measures that have not been validated within our region context.

Abstract Calciphylaxis or calcific uremic arteriolopathy is a rare and se - vere condition due to its painful ischemic necrosis cutaneous and sometimes systemic lesions, whose functional and vital prognosis is reserved due to infectious complications. Several factors are impli -cated, but the physiopathology is not yet fully understood. Its treat - ment is poorly codified based mainly on a treatment of pain, tissue oxygenation, the release of calcium salts of vessels and the elimina - tion of factors and promoting drugs. We illustrate through a clinical case the essential points to recognize on this pathology.

End kidney is with hemodynamic, biochemical and physiological abnormalities of and reduced renal clearance of pancreatic enzymes. Objective Assess the pancreatic function enzymes in patients on maintenance hemodialysis in Cameroon. We conducted a hospital-based cross-sectional study from De-cember 2017 to May 2018 at the Yaounde University Teaching Hospital dialysis unit. We included all consenting adults patients who provided a written informed consent and has been on hemodialysis for more than three months with a native arterio-venous fistula. We excluded patients presenting signs and symptoms of pancreatitis and any conditions which can increase serum pancreatic enzymes. We collected demographic, clinical and laboratory (calcemia, phos-phoremia, parathormone, amylasemia and lipasemia) data. Para-metric, non-parametric and correlations tests were used to compare variables. Results We included 60 (68.3% males) participants with a mean (SD) age of 47.4 (15.8) years and duration in dialysis of 2.1 (0.6) years. Hypertension (30%), diabetes mellitus and chronic glomer- ulonephritis (23.3%) were the main baseline nephropathy. There were 7 (11.7%) overweight/obese. Hypercalcemia was noticed in 2 (3.3%) patients whereas hyperphosphatemia and increased parathormone levels were observed in 35 (58.3%) and 28 (46.7%) pa- tients respectively. The mean (SD) lipasemia and amylasemia was 130.6 (43.3) UI/L and 131.8 (62.5) UI/L respectively. Hyperlipase- mia and hyperamylasemiawereobservedin59 (98.3%) and 48 (80%) participants respectively. The lipasemia was three times above the upperlimitsin10 (24.4%) participants. Only lipasemia was positively and significantly correlated with amylasemia (r=0.5; p<0.001). We observed that almost all patients had hyperlipasemia with nearly a quarter having values above the cut-off point to diagnose acute pancreatitis and eight out of ten had hyperamylasemia. There was a positive correlation between lipasemia and amylasemia.

Introduction The use of Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) in Norway has been limited compared to other western countries. PD is considered a good alternative to hemodialysis and the method is cost-effective. Infections related to PD are still the most frequent complication and often limits the extent of its use. peritoneal peritonitis 7 Female gender carries higher risk for peritonitis. The overall risk of death is highest during the first years of RRT [12]. More than 50% of deaths in both PD and HD are due to cardio vascular events [6]. Some studies suggest that RRT initiated with PD is more likely to have a better graft survival in patients undergoing Kidney transplantation (KTx) later on [11,13]. Utilization of PD dif fers between countries. The worldwide prevalence of PD is 11% [3].

With healthcare workers practicing frequent hand-washing in hospitals and Dialysis centers, the number of related infections and deaths in the USA have been reduced during the last decade. Despite many other precautions, CDC estimates that annual number of hospital-acquired infections and deaths are still staggering. There is no good data regarding infections originating from Dialysis centers. There are several aspects of hygiene that still miss our attention. It is the aim of this communication to point out some deficiencies in hygiene in the context of Dialysis and COVID-19.

We present a unique case of a two-year-old male patient who presented to our Emergency Department (ED) multiple times with acute urinary retention. On his first ED visit, he had chief complaints of fe ver associated with vomiting, diarrhea and inability to urinate for one day. Patient was vitally stable on arrival and examination was within normal limits. Workup at that time was remarkable for leukocytosis of 21,000 and C Reactive Protein (CRP) of 38.9. Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP) was normal. Urinalysis (UA) showed 4 white cells but nega tive leucocyte esterase or nitrites. Patient was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis. He received a normal saline bolus of 20 cc/kg, one dose of Ondansetron for vomiting and waslater discharged home. Patient was seen in our outpatient pediatric clinic next day with chief complaint of inability to urinate. His vomiting, diarrhea and fevers improved overnight. On that visit, patient was vitally stable and examination was within normal limits except for palpable dis tended bladder. Workup showed down trending white cell count of 19,200 and CRP of 25.1. BMP was within normal limits. UA showed pyuria with 7 WBCs, 3 RBCs but negative leucocyte esterase and nitrites. Urine culture was obtained as well. Patient was catheterized in clinic where he produced approximately 140 ml of urine. On repeat
