ABSTRACT The study aimed to investigate the impact of diurnal preference on auditory spatial and working memory. In the study, 87 participants with normal hearing, aged 19 to 26 y, were classified into morning, intermediate, and evening types using a questionnaire. The participants underwent a battery of spatial and working memory tests twice, in the morning and evening conditions, to examine within and across-group differences. The spatial tests included the virtual auditory spatial identification (VASI test), interaural differences in time (ITD) and level (ILD) tests, while the working memory tests included forward span and 2n-back tests. The results indicated a significant effect of diurnal preference on the test scores based on the time of test (p < 0.001), suggestive of enhanced performance during peak hours on both auditory spatial and working memory tests. The performance of morning and evening types peaked during their respective active biological cycles. These findings highlight the importance of considering diurnal preference when evaluating auditory spatial and working memory abilities and may have implications for scheduling cognitive tasks that require high levels of attention and concentration.

ABSTRACT In different organisms, histamine (HA) is related to biological rhythms, moderating the circadian rhythm of the neuroendocrine system. Nevertheless, no work has been done on the putative pacemaker of the endemic crayfish, Cambarellus montezumae, wich threatened by anthropocentric modifications of its habitat. The aims of the present work were to evaluate the daily presence and localization of HA in two structures proposed as putative pacemakers of the crayfish, the eyestalk and the brain in females and males. We also evaluated whether there are changes in the F0 generation with respect to the F1 generation. Adult crayfish were used, euthanized at different times of day, to excise the eyestalk and brain and process them through immunohistochemical techniques. The results obtained showed that the immunopositivity to HA in the eyestalk and brain of the crayfish undergoes daily variations in both females and males, as well as between the F0 and F1 generations.

ABSTRACT Although a vast amount of research efforts including a plethora of distinct methodologies have been put forth, the pathophysiology of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) has not been compromised and multidimensional aspects of biological rhythm disruptions has not been evaluated yet. Twenty individuals with severe OSAS and 20 individuals without OSAS were administered. The Biological Rhythm Interview of Assessment In Neuropsychiatry and the Emotion Recognition Task to evaluate biological rhythm disruptions multidimensionally and emotion recognition abilities dynamically for the first time in OSAS. More disrupted eating patterns (p = 0.03), diminished durations of non-REM 1 and 3 sleep stages, and preserved emotion recognition abilities were found in severe OSAS, thus emphasizing the role of eating patterns in OSAS. Allowing for the multifactorial nature of biological rhythm disruptions and emotion recognition abilities, the content and the course and the interplay between them should be pegged away before arriving at firm judgments.

ABSTRACT The relationship of sleep parameters and physical performances was assessed in young female handball players. Under 14 (13.44 ± 0.5 years), and under 17 (16.0 ± 0.8 years). Sleep patterns were evaluated using: Sleep quality (PSQI), insomnia (ISI) and sleepiness (ESS), questionnaires. Stork balance tests with open-eyes (OEB) and closed-eyes (CEB) were assessed. Squat-jump (SJ), standing broad jump (SBJ), five jump (FJT) and T-agility tests were determined. A positive correlation was found in U14 between the PSQI and ESS with agility time (r = 0.43 and 0.34, respectively), while a negative correlation was found between ISI and both: OEB (r = -0.48), and CEB (r = -0.38). For the U17, a negative correlation was found between ESS and CEB (r = -0.33). Results suggest that the quality of sleep related with age should be taken into consideration because it may affect balance and agility in young female handball players.

ABSTRACT The performance and productivity in poultry flocks are affected by climate change, especially in tropical islands. This study has been designed to understand the impact of two major seasons viz. summer (February-June) and rainy (July-September) on biochemical and immunological traits in three backyard poultry breeds viz. Desi (non-descript indigenous), Nicobari Fowl, and Vanaraja of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, for the first time. Ninety adult poultry birds were randomly selected from three different rural villages of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands including Desi (D, n = 30), Nicobari Fowl (NF, n = 30) and Vanaraja (V, n = 30). Ten birds each of D, NF and V from each village (sex ratio− 1:1) were chosen for the study. Serum samples collected (n=/bird/season/breed) from the three breeds were analysed. The study revealed that season had significant effect on biochemical parameters, i.e. serum albumin (p < 0.0001), globulin (p < 0.01), ALP (p < 0.05), total bilirubin (p < 0.05) and serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (p < 0.05). Moreover, season had significant effect on immune parameters i.e. IL−2 (p < 0.0001), IL−4 (p < 0.0001), IL−6 (p < 0.0001&p < 0.05), HSP−70 (p < 0.0001&p < 0.01), TLR−4 (p < 0.01&p < 0.05) and INF-γ (p < 0.0001). It was observed that breed had significant effect on total bilirubin (D-V & NF-V, p < 0.0001), serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (NF-V, p < 0.01 &D-V, p < 0.05). And also had significant effect on. IL−2 (D-NF, p < 0.001 &NF-V, p < 0.01), IL−4 (D-NF& D-V, p < 0.0001;NF-V, p < 0.05; D-V&NF-V, p < 0.01), IL−6 (D-NF & D-V, p < 0.0001), HSP−70 (D-NF & D-V, p < 0.0001; D-NF p < 0.01; NF-V, p < 0.05), and INF-γ (D-NF & D-V, p < 0.0001&D-NF, p < 0.05). This study could establish the seasonal influence on biochemical and immunological traits of rural backyard poultry breeds in tropical climate of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
IL−2 (D-NF p < 0.001 &NF-V, p < 0.01), IL−4 (D-NF& dv, p < 0.0001; NF-V p < 0.05;D-V&NF-V, p < 0.01), 6 (IL−D-NF & dv, p < 0.0001), HSP−70 (D-NF & dv, p < 0.0001;D-NF p < 0.01;NF-V, p < 0.05),正-γ(D-NF & dv p < 0.0001 &d-nf, p < 0.05)。

ABSTRACT In the present study, accelerometer data obtained from a sensor prototype and data obtained from commercial animal-activity recording systems were recorded simultaneously and processed to identify the parameters most fully describing the locomotor activity of laboratory mice. A linear combination of the found parameters explained up to 66% of the variance of activity measured by the PhenoMaster system and up to 86% of the variance of activity measured by the LABORAS system, with 20-min averaging of the parameters measured every minute. Correlation coefficient between body temperature and activity measured by the prototype was higher than that for activity measured by the PhenoMaster system. It has been demonstrated that the developed sensor can be used to assess an animal’s locomotor activity at least with 20-min averages, and when powered by a 5 mAh battery with a total sensor weight of 0.9 g, the resulting runtime is expected to exceed 6 months effectively making it a data logger suitable for long-term field research.

ABSTRACT The aim of study was to identify the relationships between the circadian preference and diurnal training times of elite volleyball players (n = 78). The Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) was used to identify circadian preference, resulting in a point score. Diurnal training times were divided: morning training time (MTT), intermediate training time (ITT) and evening training time (ETT). One-way ANOVA showed a relationship between circadian preference and diurnal training time documented by point score differences in the MEQ between MTT, ITT and ETT (p < 0.01). A higher (p < 0.01) point score value in the MEQ was recorded in the MTT compared to the ETT. No difference was found between MTT and ITT and ITT and ETT (p > 0.05). The results of the study show the importance of the relationship between circadian preference and typical training times during the day. The influence of training time on the development of circadian preference will need to be verified experimentally.

ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to evaluate the sleep, sunlight exposure, chronotype, mood and physical activity of college students in two consecutive years during the COVID-19 pandemic (Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry: RBR-4m5j4s). The students (n = 318) answered questionnaires in two moments (2020 - time 1 and 2021 – time 2). The data showed that there was less sunlight exposure and a chronotype with more morning tendencies in the time 2, but with no difference in sleep quality. College students walked more and sat less on weekends, but with no difference in the physical activity level. Physical activity and morning chronotype were associated with lower psychological impact. Therefore, college students, despite being less exposed to sunlight and having greater morning trends in 2021, maintained psychological symptoms, sleep quality and physical activity in the first two years of the pandemic. However, students who practiced physical activity and were mornings suffered less psychological impact.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the effect of Ramadan fasting (RF) on the morning-afternoon differences of cognitive and short-term maximal performances. . Fifteen young female handball players completed the attention (AT), simple reaction time (SRT), squat jump (SJ), Illinois agility (IAT) and 5-m shuttle run (5mSRT, to assess total (TD) and peak (PD) distances) tests at 08h00 and 1800 during ten days before Ramadan (BR), first ten days of Ramadan (F10R), last ten days of Ramadan (L10R) and ten days after Ramadan (AR). The results revealed that BR, SRT, AT, SJ, IA, TD and PD were greater in the afternoon compared to the morning (p<0.001). This morning-afternoon differences in physical and cognitive performances were reduced during F10R and were blunted or reversed during L10R (p<0.05). These findings suggest that the intraday differences in cognitive and physical performance in young female handball players might be blunted and/or reversed during RF.
结果显示,BR、SRT、AT、SJ、IA、TD和PD在下午高于上午(p<0.001)。
