Objective: To detect the expression and significance of regulatory B cells in patients with immune thrombocytopenia. Methods: 73 ITP patients were divided into glucocorticoids treatment group (n = 42) and recombinant human thrombopoietin (rhTPO) treatment group (n = 31). According to the thera-peutic effect, it was divided into effective group and ineffective group. The expression of CD19+ CD24hiCD38hi Breg in peripheral blood was detected by flow cytometry before and after treatment. The expression levels of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, interleukin (IL-10) and interferon (IFN)-γ were detected by ELISA before and after treatment. 30 volunteers were se-lected as the control group. Results: The expression of CD19+ CD24hiCD38hi Breg and cytokines IL-10 and TGF-β1 in 73 ITP patients before treatment was lower than that in the control group, while the expression of IFN-γ was higher than that in the control group (p < 0. 05). The expression levels of CD19+ CD24hiCD38hi Breg, IL-10 and TGF-β1 in the effective group were significantly higher than before treatment, while the expression of IFN-γ was significantly lower than before treatment (p < 0. 05). The expression of CD19+ CD24hiCD38hi Breg, IFN-γ, IL-10 and TGF-β1 in the invalid group had no significant change compared with before treatment. Conclusion: Abnormal expression of CD19+ CD24hiCD38hi Breg and related cytokines is involved in the pathogenesis of ITP.

Scrub typhus is a zoonotic disease caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi (O. tsutsugamushi) in which humans are accidental hosts. Acute arrest of hemopoiesis (AAH) always manifests in pancytopenia and with supportive treatment or inducement removal, the AAH patients would show significant im-provement in blood routine for about a week. As a rapidly progressive and potentially life-threatening organ function disorder syndrome, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is often induced by many factors including infection, illness and injury. We received a rare case of scrub typhus rapidly presenting with AAH and MODS 2 weeks ago. The clinical data of a 32-year-old female with O. tsutsugamushi-induced AAH and MODS was summarized retrospectively and analyzed with a literature review. In this case, we selected tigecycline and moxifloxacin as treatment regimens for scrub typhus. When the potential infection was controlled, her pancytopenia and hepatic function rapidly improved in a few days.

Background: To lower the mori-mortality related to the aggressiveness of acute leukemia’s chemotherapy regimens, we have implemented in 2017 two low toxicity chemotherapy regimens and new supportive care strategies. The aim of the study is to evaluate our new treatments. Materials and Method: A retrospective study was carried out from January 2014 to May 2021 in the hematology department of the teaching hospital in Brazzaville. The study concerned 47 children diagnosed with acute leukemia. Participants were divided into two groups: acute leukemia diagnosed before 2017 (group 1: 23 children) and after 2017 (group 2: 14 children). They were compared using the chi-square. Results: The median age was 10.0 ± 5.01 years. Features and outcomes of group 2 were better. The median duration of symptoms was shorter: 2.45 ± 2.87 months (p = 0.036). The Karnosky score was higher (p = 0.002) and white blood cell count lower (p = 0.331). Both groups started the treatment with a delay of 6 days. The induction treatment was completed in 69.6% before 2017 versus 93.3% after. The rate of relapse was more important for group 1: 85.7% versus 14.3% (p = 0.01). Conclusion: Trainings of professionals have improved the characteristics outcomes of our patients and should be pursued. Considering the high relapse rate, our protocol will need to be intensified.

Primary cardiac lymphoma (PCL) is a rare entity that comprises only 1-2% of all cardiac tumors. Due to their scarcity and variable clinical presentation, early diagnosis is challenging. In this series, three cases of PCL from a single institution are described, which highlight the spectrum of presenting features and emphasize common principles. In the first case, a 73-year-old male who presented with dyspnea was found to have a 12.1 cm mass in the right ventricle. Biopsy via cardiac catheterization revealed diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). He was treated with chemoimmunotherapy and survived for two months. The second case describes a 55-year-old female who presented with chest pain. Imaging revealed a 3.1 cm right atrial mass and bilateral pleural effusions, with cytology from the latter demonstrating DLBCL. She was lost to follow up after three cycles of chemoimmunotherapy. In the last case, an 80-year-old female presented with weakness. A 4.0 cm mass was discovered in the right atrium and the patient expired shortly after admission. Autopsy confirmed the diagnosis of DLBCL. These case summaries are followed by a review of the clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and treatment outcomes of PCL.

Background: Anemia is one of the most occurring nutritional deficiency problems in the world especially in Africa. It can be prevalent in women of reproductive age, particularly during pregnancy when it is often a contributory cause of maternal mortality. In our country Ethiopia, anemia prevalence is increased from 2011 to 2016 in all anemia categories. Even though scarce information is known about the problem in Ethiopia and studies related to the problem are not available at Debre Tabor comprehensive and specialized hospitals. Hence, we aimed to assess the prevalence and factors associated with anemia among pregnant women who are attending antenatal care at Debre Tabor Comprehensive and specialized hospitals. Methods: Institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from October 15 to November 15, 2020, with a sample size of 232 pregnant women participants selected using a systematic random sampling method. Laboratory determination of hemoglobin level was done at Anti-natal care follow-up. The data was entered into Epi info Version 7.2 and exported to SPSSS version 23 for analysis. Descriptive statistics using frequency and other summary statistics were used to present the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of women. Binary and multivariable logistic regression was done to identify factors associated with anemia using an odds ratio at 95% CI and p-value Result: The magnitude of anemia showed that 12.9% with 95% CI (9.4% - 17.7%). The mean age of the participants was 33 years with a range of 18 - 39 years. Rural residency (AOR: 2.82; 95% CI: 1.02 - 4.87, p-0.001), multi-parity were (AOR: 3.12; 95% CI: 2.43 - 7.56, p-0.045), previous malaria attack (AOR: 1.91; 95% CI: 1.04 - 4.88, p-0.023), and having history of abortion (AOR: 2.10; 95% CI: 1.18 - 6.79, p-0.014) were factors associated to anemia in pregnancy. Conclusion: This study found a relatively high magnitude of anemia among pregnant women. Rural residency, multi-parity, previous malaria attack, and having a history of abortion were found to be independent predictors of anemia in pregnancy.
结果:贫血程度为12.9%,95% CI(9.4% - 17.7%)。

Background: Anemia is a global public health problem affecting the majority of the population of the world in both developed and developing countries with major consequences on human health as well as social and economic development. It is the world’s second leading cause of disability of the whole global disease burden. It affects 1.62 billion (24.8%) of the population, among them, it is affecting 305 million (25.4%) school-age children (SAC). Objectives: The main objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and factors associated with anemia among school-age children in primary schools in Burao city, Somaliland, 2020. Materials & Methods: A school-based cross-sectional study design was done in four primary schools in Burao, Somaliland. About 285 school-age children in the age group between 6 - 14 years were selected with a respondent rate of 93.4%. Random sampling was used to select schools and systemic random sampling was used to identify children from the selected schools. Socio-demographic data was collected by using a questionnaire & interviews of respondents in addition to anthropometric measurements, hemoglobin measurement, and stool examination. Complete Blood Counting (CBC) was used to determine the mean corpuscular (kor-PUS-kyu-lar) volume (MCV) and hematocrit (HMC) levels to detect hemoglobin status of the children. Data was entered and analyzed using SPSS statistical software for Windows version 21. Anthropometric data was analyzed using ANTHRO Plus. Bivariate logistic regression and multivariable logistic regression were used to identify independent predictors of anemia in school adolescent girls. Statistical significance was set at p Results: A total of 285 school-age children were included in this study. The overall prevalence of anemia was (23.1%) (CI: 18.1%, 28.1%) with the mean and standard deviation of (12.7 ± 1.59). Out of the anemic children, 20.4% were mild and 2.3% and 0.4% of them were moderate and severe, respectively. Children’s from illiterate mothers (AOR = 2.37; 95% CI: 1.14, 4.94. P-value = 0.020), consuming organ meat less than once a week (AOR = 2.19; 95% CI: 1.05, 4.43. P-value = 0.036) and having parasites in stool (AOR = 5.21; 95% CI: 1.10, 24.6. P-value = 0.037) were identified as statistically independent associated factors with prevalence of anemia in school-age children’s from Burao, Somaliland. Conclusion: Prevalence of anemia in Burao city, Somaliland primary schools was a moderate public health problem in the current study area. Nutrition education, iron folic acid supplementation program, deworming, good hygiene, and sanitation are playing an important role in the prevalence of anemia and we recommend to give them more attention from ministry of education and ministry of health in Somaliland.
