Successful university administrators keep busy schedules, jumping from one task to another and sometimes feeling overwhelmed by competing priorities. How can we find time when there is none?
This article will outline how college and university administrators can create their own ranking system focusing on administrative procedures from the time of pre-application to enrollment all the way to graduation. I’ll attempt to list criteria about how administrative structures are perceived and used by future and currently enrolled students.

Vanderbilt University recently initiated a lawsuit related to a union election petition filed by the Vanderbilt Graduate Workers Union (Vanderbilt Univ. v. Nat’l Labor Relations Bd., 3:24-cv-01301 (M.D. Tenn. Dec. 12, 2024)). The union sought to represent 2,200 graduate student employees. The National Labor Relations Board, which processes union election petitions and oversees elections, scheduled a hearing on the matter.
I recently had a conversation with a leader in a large public institution about their institutional response to the anti-DEI mandates the presidential administration has implemented. Many institution leaders are worried about a loss of federal funding, and they’re scrambling to balance their commitments to inclusion with the priorities of the federal government.
