DIM: A network compatible intermediate interface standard 一种网络兼容的中间接口标准

The salient features of DIM, the standard interface used by the MININET instrumentation network, are described. In its most basic form this interface supports all the normal interactions between a computer and a peripheral or another computer, either directly or via a transparent communication link or network. It consists of 16 parallel bidirectional data lines, a data class flag to distinguish between end-user data and interface control information, and two pairs of handshake lines to control transfers in either direction. The basic interface may be extended with up to six address lines and separate parity lines for address and data. The computer-peripheral convention defines the initialization, flow control and exception procedures and assigns the format of the control class transfers to allow the design of peripheral-independent computer interfaces.

Many CAMAC systems using auxiliary controllers need to access more modules than will fit into a single CAMAC crate. The Daresbury Link enables several auxiliary controllers to access modules in up to seven crates almost as quickly and simply as though they were in a single crate. The link is processor independent.

An intelligent interface to Fastbus Fastbus的智能接口

Computer-aided design tools have been used in the development of FBport, a microprogrammed interface between Fastbus and the bus of a powerful microcomputer (M68000). FBport has many attractive features including the ability to execute predefined sequences of Fastbus operations which can be performed without the intervention of a processor or other device. Any device connected to the microcomputer bus can become a Fastbus master and take advantage of this new high speed data acquisition system. The bidirectionality of FBport means that any device or system connected to the microcomputer bus can also appear as a slave to Fastbus.

The design and operation of an eight channel analog multiplexed 12-bit analog-to-digital converter interfaced to a Commodore 8-bit microcomputer is described. Data collection rates of up to 20 points per second are possible under BASIC control. The converter is interfaced to the parallel input-output port of the microcomputer and the bidirectional capability of the port is preserved.

When attempting to standardize real-time features for computer languages, one quickly runs up against the large differences between the operating systems under which the processes will run. One is then left with the choice of doing only part of the job or attempting to cope with the differences at the compiler implementation level. The latter approach leaves something to be desired in efficiency and denies access to some desirable features that are only available within the operating system.

In this paper the needs of real-time systems are discussed and attempts are made to establish the need for standards for real-time operating systems.

High speed front-end processing in the CAMAC interfacing system CAMAC接口系统的高速前端处理

In this paper, recent work in the design and application of bit-sliced microprocessor elements to front-end processing in data acquisition and control systems is discussed. A microprogrammed computing structure, based on commercially available Schottky TTL microprocessor slices, performs high speed subroutines at a basic operation time of 142 ns per microcycle. The structure operates in parallel with, and under the control of, a conventional microcomputer system, which is generally interfaced to a more complete system-minicomputer that actually performs the data acquisition or control task.

Eurobus is a general purpose computer bus designed to link together processors, memories and input-output devices in single-processor and multi-processor configurations.

In this paper the Eurobus philosophy and concept, some of the ways in which it can be used to configure computers, and Eurobus support large-scale integrated circuits are described. Details of the adoption of Eurobus by national and international standards organizations are presented.
