The selfsustained electromagnetic modes of compensated and uncompensated two component magneto-plasmas are studied using a local self consistent field theory which includes collisions. It is shown that in the case of an uncompensated plasma (a deficiency of the heavier particle) the two modified Alfvén modes of the system, one of which is helicon-like when q → 0, always interact and separate at finite angles of propagation to the d.c. magnetic field.

New, intense, energy loss resonances below the first excitation potential were discovered in the electron impact excitation spectra of benzene and six of its derivatives. The observed resonances for o-C6H4CH3Cl, C6H5Cl, C6H5Br and o-6H4Cl2 peak at exactly the same energy as the dissociative electron capture resonances previously reported for these compounds, suggesting that both resonances proceed via a common temporary negative ion state of the parent molecules.

It is proposed that accurate measurement of the structure factor S(k) in 3He by X-rays can lead to an experimental test of some features associated with the sharpness of the Fermi surface. The modifications of the Fermi hole due to interactions and to thermal effects are briefly considered.

The superconducting transition temperature in quenced metallic indium antimonide depends on the treating pressure and temperature. It increases from 1.6°K to 5.1°K with increasing pressure and decreasing temperature. It is associated with the density of states of electrons.

Exact linear equations are obtained that relate the order parameters of a spherical model with arbitrary interactions and arbitrary external field. These linear equations would seem to be a better approximation to the model of a binary alloy than some linear equations previously reported, since the latter are shown to result from making a suitable approximation on the spherical model.
