Introduction
The presence of the aging process generates physiological changes. These changes may favor the occurrence of diseases whose characteristics will have a repercussion, to a greater or lesser extent, on the subject's functional capabilities and performance.
Objective
To determine the prevalence of diseases that affect the motion potential and functional performance in the elderly institutionalized subjects.
Method
A cross-sectional study was carried out through a census of all elderly adults who were included in the statistical records of Physiotherapy care practices of the Physiotherapy Program at the University Manuela Beltrán in the month February 2011. Based on the above, prevalence was calculated.
Results
A total of 41.3% (n = 50, standard error = 0.04) of the conditions seen that have a repercussion on the motion potentialities affect the musculoskeletal system, 30.57% (n = 37, standard error = 0.05) affect the nervous system and 18.18% (n = 22, standard error = 0.07) the cardiopulmonary system.
Conclusions
The main conditions treated in physiotherapy that limit potential movement in the institutionalized elderly subject are those that affect the musculoskeletal system.

Burns are tissue lesions that provoke severe metabolic alterations, causing substantial physical and psychological sequels. The Mulligan technique has demonstrated its immediate effect in reducing pain and improving functionality by implementing an accessory glide in the joint while the patient performs the movement without pain.
Herein, we describe the case of a patient who, after suffering a domestic burn, was subjected to tangential excision of burns and auto-graft on the back of both hands and fingers. The patient had severe pain in the metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal flexion of both hands, with limitation of mobility and functional deficit. The Mulligan technique was performed in the affected joints using variable accessory movements. After 10 sessions, the patient performed full flexion with minimal pain.

Introduction
Within their assessment tools, the physical therapist uses those designated for the measurement of lung function. Having extensive knowledge about the physical factors affecting normal lung function is important for the physical therapist. This paper aims to clarify those physical factors that condition pulmonary function.
Aims
To review the bibliography available that relate the physical factors having an influence on pulmonary function.
Search strategy
The search was made with the following databases: CINAHL, Ovid, Scopus, ScienceDirect and PubMed, with time antiquity limited to the last 25 years.
Synthesis of results
A total of 90 articles were obtained from the search. The authors have stated that physical factors of pulmonary function include age, sex, height, weight and ethnic group. In recent year, many authors have also added musculoskeletal factors, morphology of the thoracic cavity and muscle development.
Conclusions
The different studies associate age, sex, race, height and weight and thoracic musculoskeletal factors to pulmonary function. However, more studies are needed to explain this influence.

Goal
To analyze the changes produced by therapeutic massage on systemic autonomic activity by analyzing the modification of cardiac autonomic activity.
Material and methods
A comparative study was performed on 15 women on the variability of heart rate variability (HRV) (RR interval) obtained by photoplethysmography for 2 20-minute sessions: control and massage. HRV was measured at 4 different times for periods of 5 minutes each. The massage session consisted of effleurage massage and wide-ranging sliding pressure. In addition, the participants had to fill out the well-being visual analogue scale (Well Being VAS) questionnaire immediately after the control and massage session.
Results
The paired Student's t-test was used to compare the results obtained. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to quantify the relationship existing between the different times in each one of the parameters. A statistically significant increase was observed in HRV (total power) as well as an increase in parasympathetic activity in the massage session during the last 5 minutes (relative to baseline) compared to control session. However, this response tends to decrease 5 minutes after its interruption/timeout. Finally, the Well Being VAS score shows a significant increase after the massage. However, its gain is not correlated to the changes in the physiological variables.
Conclusions
The massage applied on healthy subjects affects the autonomic nervous system.
