How Does Paternalistic Leadership Affect Employees’ Work Engagement? The Mediating Roles of Workaholism and Trust-in-Leader 家长式领导如何影响员工的工作投入?工作狂与领导信任的中介作用

In this study, we contend that paternalist leadership can be an effective way of managing people and can pave the way for employee motivation and well-being, despite several previous studies linking it to adverse outcomes. In addition, we propose two possible underlying mechanisms (i.e., workaholism, trust in leadership) linking a leader’s paternalistic style to employee work engagement. By doing so, we aim to understand whether paternalist leaders positively influence their subordinates through a social connection path (trust in leader) or task-focusing path (workaholism). We conducted a field survey and collected cross-sectional data using online surveys from 413 participants working in various industries in Istanbul to test the hypotheses. The results indicate a positive relationship to exist between paternalistic leadership and employee work engagement. Therefore, we put forth that the paternalistic leadership style can be beneficial through the task-focusing and social connection paths, contrary to the beliefs commonly shared in Western countries.

Analysis of Academic Integration Processes of Syrian Students at Harran University 哈兰大学叙利亚学生学业融合过程分析

One of the main problems of Syrian refugees who took refuge in Turkey is education. Education is an important factor in the migration process as a tool of integration with the host society, preventing the risk of lost generation, reducing marginalization and radicalization, as a source of economic and social capital and upward social mobility. The subject of this study is the academic integration processes of Syrian students studying at Harran University. The research was carried out with a mixed method in which quantitative and qualitative methods were used together. The study is based on the results of a questionnaire with 326 people and a focus group meeting with 12 people. The study was conducted between March and December 2020. In the research, the results of the survey were analyzed through descriptive statistics, focus group interview thematic content analysis. According to the research findings; due to problems arising from war, immigration and other conditions, economic problems, language, exclusion and discrimination to a certain extent, accommodation, transportation, limited club membership and low participation in off-campus socialization processes, future anxiety in terms of employment, low book reading rate, factors such as insufficient household conditions, cultural ghettoization came forward. On the other hand friendship relations between the Syrian and Turkish students is a positive outlook. Satisfaction with academic and administrative staff is at a certain level. Şanlıurfa turns into a center of attraction to a certain extent in terms of education. Studying at Harran University is a joy for more than half of Syrian students. The results of the research show that a certain level of integration has been reached, but there are still aspects that are lagging and need to be strengthened.

Internal Migrations as a Driving Force of Regional Disintegration: An Empirical Analysis of NUTS-2 Regions in Turkey 内部移民作为区域解体的驱动力:土耳其nut -2区域的实证分析

Internal migrations, which involve population movements within the borders of a country for economic, political or social reasons, is seen as both a cause and a result of regional imbalances. In this framework, the effect increasing internal migrations have on developed and underdeveloped regions may differ through the effect of the different socio-cultural and economic conditions between regions. The aspect of imbalance is directly related to the extent to which migration affects parameters such as wage, production, consumption, human capital levels, entrepreneurial migration, unemployment, and household income in regions with different stages of development. This study analyzes the effect internal migration has on regional imbalances in Turkey’s NUTS-2 regions during 2008-2019 using the bootstrap quantile regression method. According to the analysis findings, internal migration increases growth in all NUTS-2 regions, but this effect is stronger at higher income levels. In this context, as a region’s income levels increase, the effect of net migration on growth also increases. When considering the migration direction to be from low-income regions to high-income regions, internal migration has been found to increase interregional disintegration in Turkey.

The Impact of Emotions on Our Rational Economic Decisions 情绪对我们理性经济决策的影响

There are many factors that affect the attitudes and behaviors of human beings, which have a very complex structure. However, mainstream economic theories have ignored other characteristics, including the role of emotions, by assuming that human beings are “rational” in the economic decision-making process. Although this assumption is actually controversial, it still maintains its strong established position in economic theories. In the study, the history of economic rationality and the objections developed against the rational individual were examined, and whether emotions affect the economic decision-making process was analyzed with a hypothetical experimental study, first based on observation, and then subjected to the Mann Whitney U test. According to the findings, it was determined that people are also affected by their feelings that they do not act solely on the assumption of rationality in the economic decision-making process. This finding is presented both as a unique contribution to the economics literature and as an option to be evaluated for economic policy makers.

Discussion of Azerbaycanism Idealism in Resulzade’s Thought in the context of Small Nation Model 论小国模式背景下result zade思想中的阿塞拜疆主义理想主义

Nationalism emerged at the end of the eighteenth century as a doctrine which rendered a decisive influence on the maturation of modern order, modern politics and state-governance. Hence, nationalism can be used to explain the process of nation-building of sovereign nations. Because nationalism explains the transformation of an existing state. In contrast, Miroslav Hroch uses the term national movement instead of nationalism to explain the nation-building processes of small nations. In this study, the last phase of the nation-building process in Tsaristruled Azerbaijan is going to be discussed by using Hroch’s A, B, C model of oppressed nations. In this context, I am going to discuss Mehmet Emin Resulzade’s national ideal (mefkure) and his debate of Azerbaijanism. Resulzadeh, has provided to contain political demand for the purpose of independence within the framework of the national ideal of the national movement. For this reason, Resulzadeh’s thought and nationalism have been shaped as Azerbaijan centred. This study argues that the process of nationalism can only be explained by Horch’s A, B, C model, considering the fact that Tsarist-ruled Azerbaijan had no state or national existence before the respective national movement which took place under the Tsarist rule.

Determinants of Political Content Sharing on Social Media: Impulsiveness, Social Recognition, Risk-taking, and Collective Opinion 社交媒体上政治内容分享的决定因素:冲动、社会认可、冒险和集体意见

This paper examined what role impulsiveness and perceived social recognition played in the way young adults shared political content on social media. Th e study also looked into the mediating role of risk-taking and collective opinion in the relationship between these variables. Th e sample consisted of 554 university students (357 women and 193 men) from six faculties of Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University. Participants were recruited using convenience sampling. Th e study adopted a predictive correlational design. Data were collected using valid and reliable scales. Th e results showed that participants with high impulsiveness and perceived social recognition were more likely to share political content on social media. Risk-taking was a partial mediator between perceived social recognition and political content sharing, while it was a full mediator between impulsiveness and political sharing. Collective opinion was a partial mediator between perceived social recognition and political content sharing on social media. The results indicate that young adults with high impulsiveness are more likely to share political content on social media because they can take more risks. Moreover, young adults who care about social recognition are more likely to share political content on social media because they can take more risks and care more about collective opinion.

Governments’ public health measures concerning the places of mass worship and religious gatherings to stop the spread of the pandemic and the reactions of religious groups against their orders and imposed restrictions emerged as a new dimension of the debates on state-religion and state-individual relations. In this regard, the main purpose of the study is to discuss the new global religious trends that emerged with the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, which reshapes state-religion relations through the regulations and measure for containing the virus, in light of the experiences in different regions and religious traditions, and to analyze the relationship between the religion and the state in the Middle East, specifically the cases of Israel and Iran as religious character is dominant and orthodox religious groups play a significant role within the social and political structure in both countries.
由于新冠肺炎疫情引发的恐惧、焦虑和恐慌,国家当局对公共活动和群众集会采取的规定、措施和限制,使宗教领域更容易受到国家干预,宗教习俗发生了根本性变化。各国政府在群众礼拜和宗教集会场所采取的公共卫生措施,以阻止该流行病的蔓延,以及宗教团体对其命令和施加的限制的反应,成为关于国家-宗教和国家-个人关系的辩论的一个新方面。因此,本研究的主要目的是结合不同地区和宗教传统的经验,探讨随着新冠肺炎疫情爆发而出现的全球宗教新趋势,这种新趋势通过遏制病毒的法规和措施重塑了国家与宗教之间的关系,并分析中东地区的宗教与国家关系。具体而言,以色列和伊朗的情况是,宗教性质占主导地位,正统宗教团体在两国的社会和政治结构中发挥重要作用。

Mental Health Determinants in Turkey: Investigating an Extensive List of Variables 土耳其的心理健康决定因素:调查一系列广泛的变量

Bu çalışma ruh sağlığı belirleyicilerini; sosyodemografik faktörleri, bireylerin sağlık ve yaşam tarzı seçimlerini,ev ve çevresel faktörleri, sosyal sermayeyi ve çalışma ortamını da işin içerisine katarak geniş bir perspektifle elealmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, lineer regresyon modelleri kullanılarak ruh sağlığıyla ilişkili faktörler yetişkin bireyleriçin incelenmektedir. Bunun için Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu tarafından yapılan, 2008-2012 yılları arasını kapsayanve bütün Türkiye için temsil gücü bulunan Türkiye Sağlık Araştırması anketi verileri temel alınmıştır. Bulgularımızagöre, erkeklerin kadınlara kıyasla ruh sağlığı bakımından daha yüksek skora sahip oldukları ortaya çıkmaktadır.Çevredeki ses ve gürültü, ev veya çevredeki şiddet ve suçların özellikle kadınlarda düşük ruh sağlığı skoruyla ilişkiliolduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Bunun yanında iş sahibi olmanın sadece erkeklerin ruh sağlığını olumlu etkilediği görülmüştür. Diğer önemli bir sonuç ise, hane halkı gelirinin, kişinin sağlığı ve çevresinde güvenebileceği insanlarınolması gibi parasal olmayan faktörlere nazaran ruh sağlığını çok az ölçüde etkilediğinin gözlemlenmesidir. Ayrıcaişyerinde maruz kalınan ayrımcılık ve kaba davranışların her iki cinsiyetin ruh sağlığını olumsuz yönde etkilediğigözlemlenmiştir. Araştırmamızdan çıkan sonuçlar başkalarına güven, sağlık, evde, iş yerinde ve çevrede huzurlubir ortamın oluşturulması gibi maddi olmayan değerlerin kişilerin hayatında fark yaratacağı sonucuna işaret eder.

The Impact COVID-19 School Closures on Educational Inequalities COVID-19学校关闭对教育不平等的影响

During the new coronavirus pandemic, schools were closed suddenly in almost every country in the world, and education services continued with the distance education solutions. However, the consequences of the school closures, maintaining education services via distance education and the deprivation of other services provided by schools have not been adequately evaluated. In this study, the effects of school closures and distance education on families and students during the Covid-19 pandemic were reviewed. Parental involvement, physical and technological possessions at home, digital literacy levels of students and parents have become the main factors that determines the efficiency of distance learning during the pandemic. As a result, there is a possibility that inequalities in education will increase more in pandemic. Inequalities in education had an important impact on the unemployment and loss of income, learning loss of students and psychological conditions, reaching healthy nutrition, need for special education, and fragile students. Although distance education was considered as an opportunity to reduce learning loss of students due to school closures during the pandemic, unfortunately it also made possible to increase the inequalities in education during the pandemic period.
