The oscillation voltage (Ebm) is an important parameter of the characteristic constant of a high power microwave generator. When Ebm could be made high, it serves to improve the power conversion efficiency of a magnetron. The newly developed magnetron has 7% higher oscillation cut-off voltage than the present conventional one and is manufactured by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.Ltd. In addition to this, the utility AC power line current reduced harmonic type direct inverter AC-DC power converter suitable and acceptable for driving this magnetron is proposed in this paper. This direct high frequency inverter type soft switching PWM AC-DC converter has the voltage-boost function based on active clamp scheme with soft switching pulse modulation strategy topology. This paper describes a novel type active clamp AC-DC power converter circuit defined as direct high frequency inverter and the switching operation of this power converter is described and discussed on the basis of simulation and experimental results. The operating characteristics of this soft switching direct high frequency inverter type AC-DC power converter using IGBTs that incorporates the harmonic current improvement as well as power factor correction are evaluated and discussed from a practical point of view as compared with the conventional AC-DC power converter.

A vast amount of attentions has been given to permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) in a variety of industrial applications due to recent developments in rare-earth permanent magnet (PM) materials and power electronics. These PM motors present numerous advantageous, such as a higher torque-to-inertia ratio and power density, over the other conventional machines used for ac servo drives. Applying the concepts of distributed control systems (DCS), wherein the control loops are closed through a network enables closing the slower speed control loop through a network. It consequently offers the capability of controlling many such systems from a single location at a lower installation and maintenance cost. This paper presents a study on the distributed control of the PMSM drive systems, using Ethernet as a remedy for common commercial fieldbus systems. However, the insertion of the non-deterministic communication network complicates the analysis and design as conventional control theories with many ideal assumptions, such as synchronized control, non-delayed sensing and actuation, must be re-evaluated. If these issues are addressed effectively, this state of the art concept may have promising applications in aero dynamic, naval, material processing etc., industries.

This paper presents the technique of three phase induction motor controls by using the genetic algorithm. The genetic algorithm is control by a PC and PWM is generated by MCS-51, the gain K/sub P/, K/sub i/ which will be selected by genetic algorithm controller to sense and select the adequate load. The genetic algorithm technique can control the suitable amount supplying power to motor speed by variable input frequency feed to the motor. The controller is implemented to the real time application by creating the controller box that signal is linked to the PC via the RS232 port. The result are shows that the good performance compared with PI controller that gain K/sub P/, K/sub i/ are manual inputs. This real time application will support the development in industrial.

This paper presents the predictive current control of three-phase PWM rectifier under the condition of unsymmetrical and non-sinusoidal source voltage. Two parts are included: one is the determination of input current reference and the other is the calculation of the duty cycle of the switching device. The determination of the input current reference is base on the rotating coordinate transformation of the three-phase source voltage. The resulting current reference is in phase with the fundamental positive-sequence component of the source voltage. The duty cycle of the switching device is calculated directly so that the rectifier input current can track its reference over one switching period. The simulation and experimental results validated the effectiveness of the proposed control approach.

The paper deals about the study conducted to evaluate the reliability of H bridge topology, for a DC/DC converter with phase-shift modulation strategy, with three different power devices. The first one is based on 500 V 0.087? 46 A HEXFET/sup /spl trade// power MOSFETs, the second one adopts MDmesh/sup /spl trade// power MOSFETs with external Schottky and ultrafast diodes in order to shunt the reverse current and the third one is based on CoolMOS power MOSFETs integrating the diodes in the same package. Each of them is reviewed, prototyped and investigated. Experimental results show the technological limits of each solution and suggest their right application range.

The purpose of this paper is the development of fuzzy-neural network (FNN) inverse learning control algorithms for torque-ripple minimization of SRMs. The approach consists of two FNN modules, which spare the same weight values. The learning FNN module is used to adjust the weight values on-line based on observations of the SRMs' (T-i-/spl theta/) input-output relationship in order to form an approximate dynamic inverse model i(T, /spl theta/) of SRMs. The controlling FNN module is used to predict the SRMs phase current waveforms required to follow a desired torque command. Detailed simulation results show good response characteristics for a four-phase SRM.

Dimming characteristics of fluorescent lamp by adjusting voltage, frequency and resonance induction with electronic ballast are experimentally analyzed. It is pointed out that wide dimming ratio can realize by the voltage and frequency coordinative control. The volt-ampere characteristics of fluorescent lamp as the inverter's load as well as the relation with illumination and the frequency are tested and analyzed. It is indicated the volt-ampere characteristic of fluorescent lamp will be transitive from negative resistance to positive resistance with frequency increasing.

An increase in the power levels involved, an appropriate integration and good reliability of the whole system are the actual trends in power electronics. As regards to this last point, many studies are realized from the semiconductor point of view. The key point in today's integration appears to be the passive components in hybrid structures. Such systems are built taking into account each function to be realized and the corresponding applied stresses. The work presented in this paper deals with the realization of specific materials, mainly based on barium titanate ceramics, whose properties are studied starting from the synthesis of the powder up to the final realization of the layers which is used in the integrated structure.

This paper presents a novel power compensation system for a photovoltaic (PV) array that is partially covered by a shade. The control strategy adopts electric double layer capacitors (EDLC) as a energy storage device, which brings advantages into the system configuration of both main and control system over using a battery or DC-DC converters. In addition, the energy flow of the EDLC can be simply controlled by a relay with only detecting the terminal voltage of the EDLC. The control characteristics of the proposed system are examined by simulation analyses. And, the system feasibility is demonstrated and verified from experimental results of the laboratory prototype system.
