Pediatric Life After Concussion Evaluation Scale (PLACES): Utility of a Survey of Quality of Life During Recovery from Concussion 儿童脑震荡后生活评估量表(PLACES):脑震荡恢复期间生活质量调查的实用性

Current research indicates that pediatric patients experience quality-of-life (QOL) issues during recovery from concussion. However, measures of health related QOL issues in youth have generally focused on chronic illness and do not address the unique experience of brain injury. The Pediatric Life After Concussion Evaluation Scale (PLACES) was developed to gain a better understanding of youth perspectives on QOL during recovery from concussion. The PLACES is a self-rating instrument examining patient perspectives on cognition, emotion, social life, and school support. Study participants were 277 patients, receiving treatment for concussion at a single regional concussion clinic. Examination of reliability using Cronbach’s alpha indicated strong performance with internal consistency (r =.92). The Post-Concussion Symptom Scale (PCSS) was used for comparison as this measure is commonly used to examine patient symptoms in clinical settings. Convergent and divergent validity of the PLACES was examined. Convergent validity was evident across the two measures (r=.732, p=.001). Exploratory factor analysis identified 5 factors and indicated divergent factors related to emotion, social concerns, and school. Analyses demonstrated that the PLACES domains measure different aspects of quality of life issues during recovery from concussion than traditional symptom scales, thereby offering support for the proposed domain structure of the PLACES. This measure appears to provide additional information that is clinically relevant and not available on symptom scales. Initial psychometrics indicate that the PLACES has the potential to function as a QOL measure specific to concussion and will assist in greater specificity of treatment during recovery.

A Study of Metacommunication Signals in the Initiation of Pretend Play of 3-6 year-old Children 3-6岁儿童假装游戏启动中的元沟通信号研究

Pretend play is the most typical play among children aged 3-6 years old, the initiation of which needs children’s matecommunication ability. In turn, the temecommunication ability of children can be enhanced and strengthened during the play. And thus the topic of how children initiate matecommunication signals in the pretend play is worthy to research. Using observation as research method, the researchers analyzed the metacommunication signals in the initiation of pretend play of 60 children aged 3-6. The results are as follows: (1) the metacommunication signals used by children aged 3-6 on pretend play show a tendency of transition from non-verbal signals to verbal signals with the increase of age. (2) Metacommunication signals used in regional activities show a feature of borrowing special materials and being limited by material exploring ability, and metacommunication signals used in life activities show a feature of using spontaneous physical actions. (3) The signals used by familiar peers are identifiable and changed frequently, and signals used by unfamiliar peers are repeatedly explained and are controlled. Some suggestions are provided. Reachers propose responding suggestions for teachers in the kindergarten: (1) Properly place regional material (2) Support children’s spontaneous communicative activities. (3) Promote the development of the psychological theory of children in junior class.

Simulated or Reproduced Reality Events as the Basis of Reflective Learning 模拟或复制现实事件作为反思性学习的基础

Within the literature, the authors observe a common pattern of learner reaction to simulations. Learners engage in simulated events that is similar to that which would be encountered in the real world. There is a translation, through cognition, of the simulated experience to real-world-learning, in a way that directly situates the learners for reengagement of the real world beyond the simulation. In the current study, the authors have linked these observations to a new set of response data from a study of university professors, in an effort to understand, develop, and support personal and professional development strategies and opportunities for professors across the university. A voluntary sample comprised of 40 professors from two different universities in the Midwest, were asked in a survey to define reflection and discuss cognitive processes that facilitated reflection on their own professional development. A constant comparative procedure, a qualitative coding strategy, was used to examine the data collected and the data were coded for clusters of similar behaviors. This coding was converted to visual representation using concept mapping techniques. A preponderance of participants used the same reflective process to consider, evaluate, describe and structure their professional activities, which began with an experience-an event-of practice and was clearly a precipitating experience linked to a subsequent cognitive processing. For many participants, the event serving as the basis for reflection is not grounded in an historical, real-world or authentic experience; but rather there was a shift to use of simulated or reproduced events that is clear and significant. It seems clear from the authors’ research findings and that of others cited in this paper, that simulations of experience possess the ability to transfer to real-world growth, development, and decision-making and would be preferred for vocational education uses over the reliance on authentic field and clinical experiences. Consideration of simulations as an experiential method for professional growth and development efforts seems, in this analysis, quite more complex an issue when one considers the implications of linguistics and language development to behavioral coding; the uses of cognitive tools to aid learning; and the manner in which language itself shapes, empowers or impedes the embedding of experience into human memory—and activates that memory for professional and personal action. The authors perceive that, while much progress has been made in highlighting these issues and their relationships, much work remains ahead.

Child with Retinoblatoma: Diagnosis Announcement, Difficulties and Parent’s Experiences 视网膜母细胞瘤儿童:诊断公告、困难及家长经验

Introduction: Retinoblastoma is a cancerous tumor of the retina. It is a rare pathology that affects each year, in France, one child out of 15,000 to 20,000 births. In Morocco, and in a prospective study conducted over 2 years and 3 months in the pediatric ophthalmology department in Casablanca, the annual incidence of retinoblastoma was estimated at 18 cases per year. The diagnosis of cancer, like any other serious illness, provokes an intense feeling of guilt in the child and in his parents. The retinoblastoma diagnosis announcement remains a difficult and delicate moment for caregivers and parents. The purpose of our work is to describe the experience of the parents of a child with retinoblastoma and to assess the degree of satisfaction of these children both for the treatment of their child and for clarity. information transmitted. Material and method: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study of the parents of children with retinoblastoma who received care in the ophthalmology department of Mohammed VI CHU Marrakech Morocco, and this over a period of one year from March 2016 to March 2017. The data is collected from parents with a questionnaire aimed to assess the parents' feelings and experiences around the following areas: the announcement structure, the climate of trust, proposal of formalizing personalized support. Results: The average age of children at the time of diagnosis is 11 months, with a male predominance, sex ratio is 1.4. All families had one sick child. Retinoblastoma was bilateral in two cases. The surgical treatment was radical in all cases. 75% felt that the doctor was able to find the right words to announce the disease, and 42% felt he found the right words. At the time of diagnosis, 11 out of 12 families felt that they had received sufficient listening from the healthcare professionals and 75% felt that listening was quite sufficient. All parents report that the doctor who made the announcement spoke to them with care and respect and 92% spoke on the extreme positive score. 66% of families report receiving a personalized care plan. Conclusion: The results of this study will improve the overall care provided to children and integrate the difficulties expressed and felt by parents to the care project.

Social Network, Facebook Use and Loneliness: A Comparative Analysis Between Public and Private University Students in Bangladesh 社交网络、Facebook使用与孤独感:孟加拉国公立和私立大学生的比较分析

The study mainly explores the level of real life social network, Facebook use and loneliness of the university students in Bangladesh. In addition, the study examines the factors affecting loneliness of the students. To achieve these objectives, the study uses primary data collected from 380 students and employs several methods. Firstly, the study employs Lubben Social Network Scale and UCLA loneliness scale to measure the level of real life social network and loneliness, respectively. Secondly, the study uses a linear regression model estimated through OLS method to find out the factors affecting loneliness of the students. The study finds that although aggregately students are averagely engaged in real life social network in the study area, public university students are relatively more engaged in real life social network than that of private university students. The study also finds that aggregately students in the study area suffer from loneliness moderately where private university students suffer more than that of public university students. Moreover, the study finds that the level of loneliness is increased by 3.27 and 3.47 if students use Facebook one hour more per day and students read in private university, respectively while the level of loneliness is decreased by 4.61 if the level of real life social network is increased by one. Therefore, the study suggests the students to be careful in using Facebook and to be engaged more in real life social network in order to get rid of the adverse effects of loneliness.

The study finds that although aggregately students are averagely engaged in real life social network in the study area, public university students are relatively more engaged in real life social network than that of private university students. The study also finds that aggregately students in the study area suffer from loneliness moderately where private university students suffer more than that of public university students. Moreover, the study finds that the level of loneliness is increased by 3.27 and 3.47 if students use Facebook one hour more per day and students read in private university, respectively while the level of loneliness is decreased by 4.61 if the level of real life social network is increased by one. Students’ Personnel Management and Academic Effectiveness of Secondary School Students in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria 尼日利亚克罗斯河州卡拉巴尔教育区中学生人事管理与学业成效

This study assessed students’ personnel management and academic effectiveness in terms of punctuality to classes, time management, study habits, record keeping, attitudes during classes, note taking, attitudes towards assignment, examination results and attitudes towards co-curricular activities in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State. Three null hypotheses were formulated accordingly to guide the study following a descriptive survey research design. Proportionate sampling technique was employed in selecting a sample of 1,934 students (representing 20%) from a population of 9,672 students. Students’ Personnel Management and Academic Effectiveness Questionnaire (SPMAEQ) was used as an instrument for data collection. The instrument yielded reliability estimates of .86 and .93 for the independent and dependent variables using Split-half technique. The null hypotheses were all tested at .05 level of significance using Pearson Correlation Matrix with the aid of SPSS v25. Findings from the study revealed among others that; students' counseling, healthcare, and discipline management respectively, are significantly related to students' academic effectiveness in terms of punctuality to classes, time management, study habits, record keeping, attitudes during classes, note taking, attitudes towards assignment, examination results and attitudes towards co-curricular activities. It was concluded generally from the findings of this study that, there is a moderate positive relationship which is statistically significant between students’ personnel management and their academic effectiveness. It was recommended amongst others that; there should be adequate employment and supply of professional guidance counselors to all secondary schools to boost the psychological levels of students and make them emotionally prepared for academic and co-curricular activities in the school.

C-Reactive Protein and Aggression in Patients with Schizophrenia c -反应蛋白与精神分裂症患者的攻击行为

Recent studies reported firstly an association between aggression and inflammation and secondly an association between inflammation and schizophrenia. In this study, we aim to explore the association between the clinical signs of schizophrenia, aggressive behavior in patients with relapsing schizophrenia and inflammatory marker: CRP (C-reactive protein). Adult schizophrenia inpatients without affective symptoms (n = 154) were prospectively identified and categorized according to their C-reactive protein measurement at admission as either elevated (CRP > 5 mg/L; n = 52) or normal (CRP 5 mg/L. These results confirm the role played by inflammation and immunity in the appearance of aggressive behavior in schizophrenic patients and highlight the interest of the CRP assay at the admission of patients as an indicator of aggression in hospitalized schizophrenic patients.

An Investigation of the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Family Caregivers of Patients with Alzheimer's Disease 阿尔茨海默病患者家庭照顾者知识、态度与行为的调查

Objective To investigate the current status of the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of primary home caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). To propose targeted intervention measures to improve home caregivers’ ability of caring, by analyzing influencing factors. Methods 76 family caregivers of patients diagnosed as AD in a third-class hospital in Guangzhou were selected for this survey of convenient sampling. These patients were followed up at home after discharge from the hospital, and their main family caregivers were investigated by knowledge, attitude, practice questionnaire. Results The total scores of knowledge, attitude and practice of the home caregivers of AD patients respectively were (53.16±8.78), (33.53±4.69), (56.34±13.39). There were statistically significant differences between the self-care ability of patients, the occurrence of AD symptoms and the knowledge score of caregivers (P Conclusions The scores of home caregivers of patients with AD remain low in knowledge, attitude and practice, so it is necessary to strengthen the health education and care guidance for these caregivers. In this way, the caregivers can obtain more social support to improve their ability to care for patients.
