[CoB/Pd]/sub n/ films were prepared with dc magnetron sputtering and the effect of preparation conditions, the addition of N/sub 2/ to Ar gas and heating of substrates during the deposition, on its microstructure and magnetic properties were examined.

Signal processing for perpendicular recording 垂直记录的信号处理

In order to use a magnetic recording system to store data many issues must be addressed. Inter-symbol interference, media noise, head and electronics noise and various nonlinear distortions all compromise reliable detector performance. The set of issues is the same regardless of whether the medium is magnetized in a longitudinal or a perpendicular direction. Likewise the same basic partial-response maximum-likelihood detector architecture is appropriate for both longitudinal and perpendicular recording. Details of the recording system such as the transition response, the noise power spectral density and the nature of the nonlinearities do differ greatly between longitudinal and perpendicular recording. The details of the signal processing implementation must change to accommodate these differences.

Employing fractionally-spaced equalizers (FSE) for magnetic recording channels 采用分数间隔均衡器(FSE)的磁记录通道

We propose and investigate the performance of an FSE (oversampled) system in longitudinal and perpendicular recording channels. Results show that the proposed system outperforms the conventional (symbol rate) one whenever there is excess bandwidth, like in longitudinal recording.

Hybrid recording features and material candidates beyond Tera bit/in/sup 2/ 混合录音功能和材料候选超出Tera bit/in/sup 2/

Magnetic recording will face very serious problems beyond Tera bit/in/sup 2/, such as: recorded bit thermal stability in a size range of less than 20 nm×30 nm; very strong magnetic field necessary to write on a high coercive media, estimated over 15 kOe; write frequency limited to a few GHz, depending on the natural resonance of the magnetic material. In a hybrid recording scheme, writing is done at a high temperature around 150-230 °C, while archiving at room temperature. Such a simple concept brings solutions to solve the above difficulties. This paper outlines various hybrid recording device configurations and checks out the applicability of several materials for this type of application.

Multilayered soft magnetic underlayers for perpendicular magnetic recording media 垂直磁记录介质用多层软磁底层

The soft magnetic underlayer (SUL) with high saturation magnetization in perpendicular magnetic recording media have been required essentially to achieve high recording density with high bit stability. However, stripe domain configuration caused by the induced perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and deterioration of surface smoothness in thick SULs degrades the recording performance. In this study, multilayers, with several kinds of interlayers for the SUL, were prepared in order to improve the soft magnetic properties and surface smoothness as well as reduce the media noise originated from the domain configuration.

Two anomalous magnetic properties were observed when Co ultrathin films on Pt(111) were capped with Ag overlayers: the out-of-plane magnetization has a significant enhancement after annealing at high temperatures, and the spin reorientation transition (SRT) can be induced.

A novel high resolution quantitative magnetic force microscope for hard disk research 一种用于硬盘研究的新型高分辨率定量磁力显微镜

The Magnetic Force Microscope (MFM) has become a major tool for characterizing and evaluating read and write heads, written tracks and material performance in magnetic data storage. However, standard MFM techniques suffer from the following problems that limit their application to image the bit structure as the storage density advances towards 1 Tbit/in/sup 2/: the lack of lateral resolution and measurement sensitivity on a nanometer scale; the difficulty of relating the measured signal to the stray field; and the ability to separate the topography and magnetic signal. The techniques to obtain a high lateral resolution and achieve a complete separation of topography and magnetism, were developed with sophisticated MFMs built for fundamental research. These instruments are not suitable for industrial applications due to their complexity and restrictions regarding the sample size. In order to overcome these limitations a novel room temperature MFM (QMFM), with a focus on industrial standard applications, has been developed at the University of. Basel.

This paper presents a highly accurate method of obtaining approximate field components for a 2D perpendicular magnetic recording head in the presence of a soft magnetic underlayer. It is easy to use and may be applied to any configuration of rectangular poles, shields and gaps.
